Full of surprises”
Whole experience was fantastic & better than expected. Booked a junior suite with hot tub on balcony which was great to warm up in. Room was extremely clean, beautiful view & provided a great japanese experience as well. With dinner & breakfast included there was no need to go elsewhere for food. Dinner was an experience in itself...private japanese dining with about 10 courses, sushi chef dropped by & also owner to thank us. Provided Shuttle bus to Snow Monkeys, which was a fantastic day in itself. Very personalised service overall. Will be a great memory of our stay in Japan.

Service”
The staff are really nice. Eventough they're not speaking English fluently, they are trying their best to help giving the best experience for their guest. Also very good Onsen experience. The hotel got a public onsen area and also a bedroom with private onsen on it's balcony which very nice. The cleanliness of the hotel it self was very good and clean. All the property looks well maintained. All i can say is this hotel is a must to stay when you're in Yudanaka.

Value for money”
Cost is high for the Japanese Onsen room, however breakfast and dinner is included. Heaps to eat, didnt need lunch as such big meals provided. There is also a lounge and you can pour your own drinks. Given food and drinks provided and own private onsen value for money is quite good.

Comfort hotel with good service and nice staff”
It was the first time for us to experience private Japanese onsen inside the room with two meals. The service of the hotel was excellent. Although the staff might not be good in English, they tried their best to communicate with us. We chose having our meals in a private room. The presentation of the Japanese dinner and breakfast was beautiful but not really delicious which just like most of the Japanese food. Only the Shinshu beef was impressive. I guess we stayed in a higher priced room so we were given a password to access a private function room where wines, whisky, juice, coffee, soft cheese and snacks were served. In conclusion, it was a very good experience.

Superb”
We stayed for 1 night at Aburaya Tousen as we wanted to visit the snow monkeys. We had a room with a bath on the verandah which was superb and well worth the extra $. The room was excellent and the facilities are second to none. We had dinner and breakfast and both meals were served in a private dining room. The food was amazing and we are so glad we had decided to have meals at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were picked up from Yudanaka Station and we were also dropped off at the entrance to the snow monkeys. Everything about our stay was superb and we would thoroughly recommend Aburaya Tousen. This is easily the best stay we have had in our 8 trips to Japan.

Amazing Accomodation”
Thank You Aburaya Tousen, we had an amazing stay!! Our room had a private onsen which was amazing and overlooked the mountains. Staff were extremely helpful and they had shuttle buses to take you to the station as well as to Jigokundai Snow Monkey Park. Breakfast & Dinner was amazing and really showcased Japanese cuisine. Staying here is a must if you want to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

Totally chilled out ...”
Aburaya Tousen provided the perfect antidote to a our stay in Tokyo. Loved the relaxed atmosphere, the lounge with free drinks and the facilities in the room ... down to the different sizes of yukatas available. The owner of the ryokan made a point of introducing herself during our kaiseki dinner and was happy to have a photo taken with us.

A great stay and will be back!”
A very good experience staying in Aburuya Tousen!! Staff were very helpful for providing information about tourist spots nearby, the greeted us at the door step at sub-zero temperature and served us with warm green tea and local made cakes. Staffs speak decent English and were very helpful!! The hotel is located 10 minutes walk around from the Yudanaka station and you may want to let hotel know in advance as they do provide pick up service if they are not too busy. The Monkey Onsen is 10 minutes drive away, you may take the shuttle bus or taxi @2000 yen. I walked back to the hotel from the onsen and took me about 45 minutes, I love the serene neighborhood along the way back. Hotel room is spacious with full view of the river, I enjoyed sitting in front of the window and watch the snow flying around. The tatami and blanket provided were very comfortable and was one of the highlights of the room. You may take the daily free shuttle bus to nearby ski resort, mostly just 20-40 minutes away.

Fantastic”
Stayed 1 nite , however should have booked 2 nites but price rather hefty as we booked the room with own private bath. Rather rushed to visit the snow monkey at Jigokudani just with 1 nite. The hotel staff was so nice as to pick us up from Yudanaka station upon arrival by Nagano Dentetsu line , and thereafter dropped us at Jigokudani by 3pm. Snowing very heavily then , but the driver was so nice to escort us to the initial path of the monkey park up the mountains as we were rather doubtful of the way in the heavy snowing. Onsen/ open bath was superb in the cold winter.

Wonderful stay”
My son and I had a great 2 night stay in Aburaya Tousen. The 24h access to the hotel spa with hot springs was awesome where it was great to relax after skiing. The Japanese style room was also spacious and comfortable. The only downside was the transport provided by the hotel, with some flexibility only seemed to be available to guests who had booked the higher cost rooms. Others had to follow the normal schedule with the last transport to the station at 11:10 am. The hotel management should consider treating all guests equally no matter what the booking class is. I also requested a one hour extension to our check-out from 11 am to 12 am (12 am is the normal international standard for check out). However, I was pretty strictly rejected, unless I paid a penalty for the extension. Also it would be useful if the staff's English skills were improved.

1. Great Onsen 2. Hotel Service & Dining 3. Close to Snow Monkeys”
Traveled to Yudanaka with a group of friends to see the snow monkeys in Jigokudani. All in all a great experience at the hotel, food was great (not directly related to the food at the hotel, but if you have the chance I would recommend trying the local Shiga Kogen beer) and staff friendly. The breakfast buffet was top notch! At the day we arrived we walked to Shibu Onsen - a 15 min walk or so. Here we could see traditional streets and cute Japanese houses (didn't try the onsen though). The hotel also arranged a free shuttle bus for us to Jigokudani where the snow monkeys are. We also had the chance to talk to the hotel owner, a very sweet lady who came to greet us during dinner and at our departure. As a point of improvement I would have liked the hotel room pictures to be updated so that it is easier to know exactly which room type that is provided, as the room type photo of the regular room shows a room with Rotenburo bath included.
