This was one of our best hotel stays anywhere in the World. Almost sublimely perfect. ”
My wife and I travel abroad quite regularly and she likes to stay at nice places. We were very glad to have found Aoi Kyoto Stay and this particular house. It is small but very tastefully done. We loved the decor and how the furnishings and accessories maximized the space and elegantly appointed. The location is also perfect with lots of restaurants and bars practically next door and across the street. It gave us a sense of being locals living the Kyoto life. I cannot say enough nice things about the staff at Aoi Kyoto. Everyone we were in contact with before we got to Kyoto and during our stay were gracious, available and ready to help with anything we needed. In particular, Sven was amazing. I had been in touch with him weeks before our trip and he always responded within a day with recommendations and suggestions, and making dinner reservations. His service was superlative. We loved Kyoto and plan to be back and we wouldn’t stay anywhere else but here everytime.

It was really nice. The location of Aoi Kyoto stay is superb, so close to the Main Street but hidden in a quiet street. Loads of restaurants near the place. The house faces a little stream with a small bridge. I feel so calm by just chilling in the lounge and watch the water flows with a nice Japanese Matcha in my hand. This is exactly what I wanted to experience in Kyoto. If u want your own place and be a local in Kyoto, Aoi Kyoto Stay will be your choice .

everything in aoi kyoto stay is out of my expectation. the place is a 2-floor japanese house, when we arrive at the place, the staff has already helped us turning on the heater and the music, which is very thoughtful especially when it's chilling out there. Experience Kyoto like a local”
Aoi Kyoto was exactly what we were looking for - experiencing Kyoto like a local and not staying at a typical hotel. The house was decorated in a very modern way while maintaining the original esthetics, it was also surprisingly a lot bigger than we imagined! Their staff was helpful and accommodating and the location of the house could not be better. Would definitely recommend.

Authentic Townhouse in great location ”
Enjoyed our stay at Aoi Townhouse due to its location and the design interiors gave us a true feeling of living in old style Kyoto. Low roofs, creaky stairs and tatami mattresses weren’t a problem for us at all. In fact our 4 year old loved it. Might be different for you if you’re travelling with older people or smaller babies

It was an great experience in staying in Ai Kyoto Stay for a couple of days. We have booked a few house styles from Aoi Kyoto Stay as we have a total of 9 family members travel to Kyoto and Osaka. Each family members enjoyed the stay in Aoi Kyoto Stay. The hotel staffs were friendly and helpful, they introduced the surrounding things to us and even helped us to reserve tables of local dining. The place that we stayed were nice decorated, rooms were spacious that you know usually the hotel room in Japan is relatively small in size. All in all, we think this was a great experience for us to choose something different to stay in Japan.

Great Place to Stay in Kyoto”
An overall excellent stay. The reception for the hotel is about 50m from the actual suite that I stayed in, so if you do not have an active cell phone line (which I did not, nor is there a phone in the hotel) and you need any assistance or would like to ask a question to the Aoi staff this is impossible. They close at 11pm at night and there is no form of room service or bar etc, this is not so bad considering there are many good restaurants close by. The stairs up to the bathroom and bedroom were so steep that they may prove difficult for an older person and the front door was exceedingly hard to close. For the same cost one can stay in a well appointed hotel in the middle of the city with all the services that the Aoi does not provide. Although, the location was hard to beat. My suite was right on the river. I guess you sacrifice usual hotel service for such a beautiful location.

Excellent Traditional Accommodation”
Amazing place. Well worth it. This 2 story house in the heart of Gion, kyoto was incredible. The house was very old but fitted with modern comforts so you get the best of the old world with the new. Minutes walk to restaurants and the Yasaka Shrine. Highly recommend the Alio garden nearby to eat. this place has everything. Wifi, music, traditional feel, bathtub that can easily fit a couple, kitchen, laundry (washer and dryer), close to restaurants. We didn't arrange food 3 days prior to arrival so didn't get to enjoy that but I imagine it would have been amazing. The staff greeted us at the taxi with umbrellas, they were delightful and their English was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Ryokan! ”
The most beautifully designed Ryokan we stayed in on the trip. Unlike the more traditional Ryokans, no food was served which was fine as Kyoto has so much good food. We enjoyed staying in a historic building, tastefully designed. Will be back and stay longer.

An excellent stay”
It was an amazing stay and my husband and I would like to go back to stay there when we visit Kyoto next time. It is a 2-floor house with quite satisfying room size. All the furnitures and facilities in the room are perfect. The location is great, quite near to a lot of major sightseeings and a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. Although that, when you are in the room, it is very quiet at night. What I love most is that there is a small greek just outside the living room and you can hear the water flowing and see the ducks swimming in there.

The house was centrally located in Kyoto, walking distance to most locally famous destinations. Surrounded by different major public transportation makes our daily travel easy. The property itself has been beautifully renovated and preserved, it is great to be able to stay in a traditional house and it makes our stay in Kyoto even more colorful.

it was a pleasant stay at Manjuji bashi and spacious enough for 4 adults. The ceiling is quite low. It's a perfect fusion of traditional and modern Japanese culture. It's ideal for those who are intrigued by Japanese culture but not for those who are used to hotel rooms and require concierge assistance. The hotel staff are easily contactable via phone and email.

A very beautiful traditional Japanese house”
Very pleasant stay, it's a beautiful traditional Japanese house modernly furnished, located in a quiet local area, great for those who wants to really experience the local japanese neighbourhood. Staff were very helpful, when enquired about a nearby pharmacy at late night, they promptly provided direction over email, their effort was very appreciated. The house is situated along the creek and its amazingly beautiful, makes sitting at the balcony door an absolute joy. Be mindful that parking is not available at the premises, however the friendly staff were able to guide us to a nearby parking lot.

A Great Option for an Extended Stay in Kyoto”
I was in Kyoto for nine days and didn't want to stay in a hotel for that long. This was the perfect alternative. Neighborhood was great. Once I got oriented there were lots of transportation options nearby. Staff were always available and eager to help. It was nice to come "home" after a day of sightseeing.

I only have one gripe, which is my stay was too short! Next time, I plan to stay longer to fully soak in and enjoy the beautiful space! This was my best experience in Kyoto, the Japanese beds were super comfortable, location unbeatable, and all amenities were great.

Excellent stay. Everything perfect, I think it is one of the best place to stay in Kyoto. Very easy to find the house and it felt like home. One thing was that yhe stairs were rather small so families with elderies may not be suggested to stay.
