The RGN City Lodge

"This is the best hotel in downtown Yangon. Excellent breakfast buffet, room cleaniness with nice AC and a hot shower and a good toilet with a plenty of toilet papers, friendly hotel staff, and excellent location, includes two blocks to the beautiful city mall that has a good Pizza Hut. If I return to Yangon, I will stay this hotel again."

Hotel Grand United Ahlone Branch
Dagon,Dagon - View on map
"Really enjoyed our honeymoon stay. Had a Junior suite, expensive by Burmese standards, but comfortable and clean. The hotel food was clean and safe in a town with a lot of dodgy hygiene, and the location was great. The staff were helpful, and would get you a taxi and arrange the price: 2000 kyat (2 US) to downtown or the Shwe Dagon Pagoda (go early, it's hot!), 8000 to the airport. A short walk from the hotel is Htwe Oo Puppetry, a 'must see'. Also, see the Sule Pagoda at night, (open until ten) , quite fabulous! Breakfast at the hotel was excellent, both western and eastern. Have the man make you an omelette to order! Room service was also good and fast, same price as the restaurant. Buy a lungi at the Boyoke market (opens at 9 but arrive early to sit and have tea and watch real life as the locals get ready for their day). A lungi is great for their climate (lets the air flow and keeps the Mosquitos off), and covers your legs like you need to to enter temples. And you will get a lot of positive interactions from the Burmese! Have fun, but bring your meds. The hygiene is improving, but still terrible. My wife got sick, but happily there are a few clinics around where the speak English and know how to handle Travelers dysentery. The hospital across the street from the hotel is right out of the dark ages, so forget that. I really enjoyed Yangone, but it's not for the faint of heart. Stay hydrated! The local draft beer is really great! 600 kyat a glass! Cheers!"

The LOFT Hotel Downtown Yangon
Dagon,Dagon - View on map
"If you're planning an international vacation and are considering something different, then travel to Myanmar. Two recommendations are easy to make: (1) book your stay at The Loft in downtown Yangon and (2) hire tour Guide "Han" from Toursbylocals.com. The Loft is a funky and cool boutique hotel in the capital city of Yangon, Myanmar (formerly known as Rangoon, Burma). Reasonably priced, The Loft is fashionably decorated in a funky, cool style with super clean rooms, hallways and common spaces. The main floor restaurant and lounge is run by Chef Ludovic Carptuant and serves the best French cuisine outside of France. In room air-conditioning provided daily relief from the constant heat and humidity outdoors. Front desk, concierge and housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. For two veteran business travellers who have seen a lot of hotels over 20 years, we are not exaggerating when we rate this hotel with 5 stars - as good as any top hotel we've stayed in."

Diamond Crown Hotel

"I have to thank the staff at Diamond Crown for their 5-star service at a budget hotel. Really incredibly helpful and friendly with great English skills. Always smiling, always going out of their way. At check-out, a member of housekeeping noticed that I left shirts in the closet and rather than just pointing it out, he took the shirts out and carefully folded them for me. I have never had such good service at much more expensive hotels. "

Summit Parkview Hotel

"Great hotel with great location, great staff, great services and we got a great deals as well. If you stay over weekend, you will have lot of chances to see Myanmar wedding reception ceremonies. 5 mins by taxi to Dagon Center where you can enjoy night life with some shopping malls. Surrounding area is very clean and safe. Only 10mins taxi to downtown or China town and the river. 5 stars for the staff. Thank you."

Alfa Hotel
Dagon,Dagon - View on map
"Highly recommended. The hotel is within walking distance (about 1km) from the Shwe Dagon, there is a great noodle place nearby, near to Bogyoke market. The hotel also has a great rooftop bar that serves decent food and drinks, and also has a view of the Shwe Dagon. Hotel also has free wifi (though it gets slow during peak internet usage periods). Couldn't have asked for more."

Yangon International Hotel
Dagon,Dagon - View on map
"I booked this hotel because of its proximity to the Thai Embassy. The Yangon International needs lots of repair--- In may ways it is crumbling. When it was new, it must have been the "talk of the town!" But it is still charming. It is a bizarre blend of various decors including turn-of-the century Parisian Art Nouveau, which dominates the facility. Prints by Mucha are everywhere. This theme seems out-of-place for SE Asia, but it is fun! The funky rooftop bar has an excellent view of the city. The hotel is right across the street from the lovely "Peoples' Park," and is walking distance to Shwedagon Pagoda, the Myanmar National Museum, as well as Ocean Supercenter. Though the Yangon International is far from being luxurious, it is clean, the staff are friendly, and it offers an eccentric, unique hotel experience. If you are looking for something offbeat, this is the place!"

Governor's Residence, A Belmond Hotel, Yangon
Dagon,Dagon - View on map
"Governors residence What can you say? This hotel offers old world charm with a very "boutique" feel to it. Yes there are more modern establishments in town with larger pools, lots of marble and mirrors in the lobby but, if you want excellent service and a great, understated colonial style retreat in the city then you have to go quite a distance to beat this. The main body of the hotel which incorporates the restaurants, shops and bars has been tastefully formed from the original governors house that was built in the 1920's. The gardens and ponds surrounding the property are incredibly lush and even have a resident pair of peacocks. The pool area is quiet and provides an excellent respite from the city. The rooms are housed in more modern blocks to the rear of the original building but have been seamlessly grafted on and feel as though they have always been there. An earlier reviewer mentioned that neighbours could be heard, which is true but the same can be said for any hotel and I can honestly say that it never became an issue for us. We dined at both restaurants and the food and service was excellent in both. A special mention has to be made of the buffet-style curry table, a must for any curry lover with a choice of around 10 different curries as well as a grill station serving prawns and assorted satays accompanied by unlimited draught beer and soft drinks! When you consider that the room rate includes without a doubt the best breakfast buffet in town and complimentary minibar it's no surprise that this hotel remains consistently the best place to stay in Yangon. Try it, you won't be disappointed! "
