Better than expected”
Good price, free bicycle used which is very comfortable to go everywhere such as beach, department store and restaurant. The hotel also provided free Onsen with a very good quality of water, so I don't need to take Onsen outside. Staff can speak English very well. You can left your bag easily if you arrive before the check-in time. High recommended.

Worth it for the price!”
Spent the 2020 New year's eve in this place! The place is just less than 10 minutes walk from the bus stop and very accessible to many nearby establishments and restaurants. The in-house onsen is well maintained and is available for use for all the guests, for free! You may use it whole night if you like to! The staffs are very polite and helpful. Definitely worth staying.

Such friendly staff and great tatami rooms! ”
The staff were very friendly, let us check in early, very clean, great shared kitchen and communal area. Great location. Would definitely stay here again if we are back in Beppu!

Just right for us”
On our trip around Japan, my two best friends and I stayed in a variety of hostels and hotels and share houses, etc. and we learned what things not to take for granted... The big kitchen with WiFi, shower room and mini onsen, the convenient location, locking doors and private bathroom... all very much appreciated toward the tail end of a long trip. We definitely really liked Cabosu House :)

Exceptional”
Great staff that speaks fluent english. Nice onsen in the hotel especially during winter. Free bikes to scroll around for guest which an extra point for us as parking is not so convenient when out for food. Nice living, dining and free cotton candy machine for kids. Worth to stay!!!

Good enough!”
Free bike rental, onsen, outdoor foot onsen and candy floss! Not bad for the price. Also, great staff at reception. Our room had a slight smell but that didn't bother us as we were out all day! Sheets were very soft and comfy too.

Nice traditional house near the sea”
I enjoyed my stay here, it's in an excellent location in terms of places to eat, shops, bus and train stations, and the beach! There is a lovely small sitting area as well as a large, well-equipped kitchen with a tatami area for eating. The staff were lovely and spoke excellent English! I was even given a private room at no additional cost (I booked a dorm) because it wasn't too busy. Only downsides I would have to mention are the walls are paper thin so I was disturbed a lot during the early morning by other guests and people cleaning. There is also only mixed-gender toilet facilities which I wasn't too keen on, especially because there were far more men staying than women.

They're okay, but don't expect too much 🤔”
The hostel has a cute living room with some manga and games in it. Perfect place for hanging out. The kitchen is has all you need, but only has enough for two groups at a time. They have an onsen and a foot spa. The staff was pretty nice too. When we were there, there was a virus going around so not a lot of guests. We were lucky enough to get bumped up to a traditional room with its own bath. So overall, it's not too bad. The only problem I had was the carpets. They badly need replacing.

Good location and comfortable stay, but LOUD.”
The room was minuscule, but the bunk beds were surprisingly comfy, and this place was in a convenient location and great for where we needed to go. Maybe it would be better if it wasn't a holiday, but we got no sleep here. Children shrieking until midnight, and other people up making noise at 5am. You can hear EVERYTHING and people weren't respecting the quiet time hours that were posted everywhere. Also not terribly convenient that they don't open for check in until 5pm, but we just went to the hot springs to wait, so not a problem for us!

Friendly staff and onsen ”
I really enjoyed my stay at Cabosu. The staff is friendly and their is a true hostel feeling to the place. The hostel has its own small onsen. The location is good near both the bus terminals and train station. The check in time is at 5 pm. That I didn’t like. On the other hand the check out time is at 11 am.

Good In house Onsen though hot”

Awesome hostel, would definitely stay again”
Great location: very close to Beppu Station (only 5 minutes walk) Great facilities: 3 people in one room, very spacious, toilet included in the room as well, clean and well kept. Nice little public bath/onsen down on the 1st floor.

Good value and met our needs ”
Pro: good wifi. Large communal kitchen. Wasn't too busy even though it was Beppu onsen festival. Con: communal bath (onsen), only one private bath. Toilets on our floor always smelled of urine so we went two floors up.

Nice hostel, difficult to find your way though”
The hostel is located in the dimly lit grids of the Beppu area, which is quite common in Japan. But could be hard to foreginers to find their way when the streets names are not well idenitified. Despite this, it is located in near the coast and you can grab dinner and necessary groceries from a nearby convenience store easily.

Good hostel. ”
Khaosan Beppu hostel is a pretty decent one. At first it's a bit hard to find, but it's actually close to all the things you need. Bus station, coffee, drinks and supermarkets are all a couole of minutes away. It's good to check online prices because they're cheaper than walk-in prices.

How many guest houses with private onsens have you encountered?”
I don't know what other reviewers use as their benchmark but for me, it's the other places I have stayed at. This is a fabulous place. The dorms are spacious. The kitchen is huge (compared with other places) and did I mention the private onsen? The water is likely the same as that of the other "pay" onsens in town and here I can tell you in advance that the water temperature isn't scorching (I heard that at Tagegawara Onsen it can be too hot to get in - at least for us not onsen-used Westerners). That being said, this is an older Japanese house, so please adjust some expectations.

Value for Money”
Have to walk from Beppu station 10 minutes, located inside small street, friendly and helpful staff, English speaking Hostel with male and female onsen. Cleanliness should be improved. Recommended!
