All-inclusive hotel, the only international standard hotel in Mae Sot”
Although there are many good quality hotels in Mae Sot, many of which are brand new, the Centara is the only international standard hotel in the whole city and probably the whole province, with the exception of the capital, Tak. This is because the hotel offers full facilities including buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner (2 restaurants), room service, a business centre, conference and event facilities, a pool and gym, a bellboy and numerous services such as massage, airport pickup/drop-off, a travel agency on site, gift shop and others. I have stayed at the Centara dozens of times in the last couple of years as I come up to Mae Sot for business multiple times per year. Although the hotel is showing it's age, the rooms are functional, the beds comfortable with nice soft mattresses allowing a comfortable night's sleep, the wifi is pretty OK these days and the breakfast buffet is pretty good too. I disagree with the reviewer that said the location is bad with no restaurants around. On the contrary. The city's largest shopping mall Robinson is located directly opposite the hotel, you can head out of the hotel, cross the road and you're there. Numerous restaurants, cafes and a food court are located there. For something more local, there are numerous restaurants located along the bypass road just after Robinson's too. Getting into town is greatly simplified with a car or motorcycle, it's only a 5-10 minute drive, though you could walk it in 20-30 mins. Apart from the market there is not a whole lot happening in downtown though, relatively few restaurants of note except for the consistently good western favorite, Krua Canadian. Aside from this you'll notice a lot of Burmese number plates during the day, as Burmese come across for shopping and trading their wares. The border crossing is the main crossing for overland travel to Myanmar and is one of the main reasons foreigners travel to Mae Sot these days.

Good all-inclusive hotel, but rooms need an update”
The Centara Mae Sot Hill Resort seems to be an institution in Mae Sot, as it's where all the motorcycle and car tours heading to Myanmar seem to stay, possibly due to it's large car park. Of course, these tours don't go very often as Myanmar has restrictions on foreign motorists, so the large car park will be largely available most of the time, if you come by car, except perhaps during holiday periods. Check-in was super quick and efficient, and the receptionists were very eager to help including printing out some documents for free. Wifi was good on the first day, but stopped working in the morning after a while using it. That wasn't a big deal as I was about to check-out anyway. Before doing so I went for a quick swim - big mistake, as the pool was full of local kids taking swimming lessons. It's unfortunate that the pool is not available for exclusive guest usage so better swim later in the afternoon or evening when the kids are gone. Breakfast was once again the best feature of the hotel - a good buffet with plenty of choices. Overall, I enjoyed my stay as I have on previous visits, but the hotel seriously needs to upgrade the rooms, including the decor, carpets, air-con, showers and TV, which are all stuck in the late 80s or early 90s. Prices also seem to be creeping up and could be a bit lower considering it's Mae Sot and the relatively old condition of the hotel.

Best all-inclusive hotel in Tak province”
I have stayed at Centara Mae Sot Hill Resort many times since first coming to the area (and across the border to Karen/Kayin State and beyond in Myanmar) for business in late 2012. It is no wonder given the efficiency of the staff, the check-in and check-out process, the buffet breakfast, the pool, fitness centre, bar, function hall, restaurant, gift shop and ample on-site parking that this is the top choice in town. The pool often has a lot of local kids who appear to be members of a swimming club splashing around, perhaps the management could build a separate, larger pool for it's guests (it would have enough room on the hotel grounds to do so), while keeping the current smaller one for kids and those who are members of it's swimming club. The only negatives are that the hotel is showing it's age, having been built in the 80s and still showing some signs of those times. The old TVs need to be replaced by new flatscreen TVs, the room designs updated (although our deluxe rooms had new wooden flooring unlike the older standard rooms which had old carpets last time I visited), the decor modernized. That process appears to be occurring, albeit only slowly. Apart from that, breakfast is pretty good, though there could perhaps be a little more variety though this may depend on the level of occupancy since when I stayed, it was the low season. The only other confusing thing: where is the advertised running track? Unless they mean you have to run on the road?

You get what you pay for”
I was in Mae Sot on business and spent two nights at the Centara. The hotel certainly does not match typical Centara standards, however the price is also a lot lower than typical Centara hotels. There are not a lot of hotels in Mae Sot, and Centara is the only big name hotel that international travellers would recognise. My stay was quite pleasant. Complimentary high speed wireless internet access was available in the room, which is a great feature. The room sadly did not have a bathtub. I've seen in other reviews people complaining about carpet that smells bad. During my stay the only carpet I saw was behind the receptionists desk. No carpet in the rooms. Breakfast was decent. The Thai options were very nice, however western food was lacking. But there was a guy making freshly cooked omelettes to order, which were quite nice. All in all you really get what you pay for with this hotel. It's perfectly comfortable for a good nights sleep and is a safe bet for visitors to Mae Sot who do not wish to gamble on a hotel they have never heard of.

Great as usual”
I stay here so often there's little point in making a review every time I stay but I decided to this time just to say I was so glad to make it here after a night spent at a terrible hotel in Mae Sai the previous night. Was such a relief to arrive to a nice comfortable room and bed after a nice warm shower after passing through road construction on the Tak-Mae Sot road late at night in pouring rain. Breakfast was a delight, the hotel regularly updates it, which is a good sign. Everything about the room was good as usual. We headed onto Myanmar after a one night's stay here and encountered 7 days straight rain and flooding - only saw sun again after arriving in Chiang Mai after the Myanmar trip.

Clean nice place”
We stayed at Centara for one more day, so a total of 3 days. We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the pool area. Rooms are big and clean, although the shower in the bathtub is not my favorite. My daughter however loved the side of the bad and took a swim in it every day. The bar/lounge downstairs looks very nice, but sometimes it was hard to find the bartender. Overall a very pleasant stay and if we ever need to go to Mae Sot, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

Best pool in Mae Sot and great service”
After years of living in Mae Sot, this was my first time actually staying at Centara. I was happily surprised with the quality of room: comfortable and spotless and up-to-date, if not fancy. The pool is the highlight, with comfortable chairs, towels, and umbrellas on request. Service has always been excellent and friendly. The low point is the gym, which hasn't been updated or renovated in years; it really needs a tile floor rather than old carpet, and weight machines are ancient and barely functional. Treadmill is new-ish. In terms of location, you'll need a motorbike or hired car to get anywhere - it's out on the highway and not convenient to restaurants or shops.

Great all-inclusive hotel; could be refurnished ”
After arriving for check-in, we were quickly whisked to our room after which I had to make a quick trip over the border to Myanmar and back. All the facilities in the room were in tip top condition, wifi worked well, the bed was very comfortable and the TV had a number of satellite/cable channels. However, some of the decor could use a refurbishment. The old style TVs should be upgraded to flat screens; the furniture updated. Breakfast was pretty good as usual, and in the morning I had requested a late check-out due to some business activities well outside of town that required me to drive about 40 mins one way. The receptionist gladly allowed me to extend my stay until 2pm free of charge. Overall, this is still the best hotel in Mae Sot and probably all of Tak province. However, as I've said before and others have mentioned, it could use a bit of an upgrade - I believe they have already started upgrading some rooms.

Superb as usual”
This is my usual hotel when I come to Mae Sot. Everything was great as usual - breakfast is always varied so regular guests will be happy. I am always curious to see the interesting mix of guests who stay here. On the evening we arrived, our first order of business after a long car journey from Bangkok was to eat dinner at the nearby Khao Mao Khao Fang restaurant, which must be one of the most beautiful restaurants anywhere in the world. I noticed a large number of westerners, mostly young Americans there and assumed they were staying at our hotel. Sure enough, they were and turns out they came on some sort of program or cultural exchange to help Burmese refugees. We ended up extending our stay to 2 nights as we had quite a bit of business to conduct and then proceeded to Myanmar for the next leg of our trip.

Good place to stay.....”
i've stayed here a few times now and think that it's great value. i come to mae sot regularly and always have a good time there. the staff are great at the centara, always so helpful. the breakfast is good with good coffee and an omelette stand. my one complaint (so often the case) is that the walls are really thin so if you have a person who likes to watch tv in the next room you have to hope that they like to get an early night! beds not too hard aircon not too loud pool excellent. have not tried the gym but it looks ok

Always Love to stay here, best in town”
I always stay at this hotel since 90s and it's one of my top choice at Mae Sot. The hotel is the best in town and you can relax here with good food. The hotel is very close to downtown and you can have a good Mae sot view from your room. Highly recommend everyone to stay.

Great Value for Money”
Centara Mae Sot is a good value for the money. The hotel is a good choice for business or for tourism in the Mae Sot/ Umphang area. During both of my stays I found the staff to be very friendly. The food in the restaurant was good quality and reasonably priced. The hotel charges a reasonable fee of 80 Baht to pickup or dropoff travelers at the Mae Sot airport.

Another stay”
This is my 3rd time to Mae Sot and second stay at the Centara. I have travelled with my family and alone on business. The location is excellent and service is great. I have stated the rooms are outdated, but so is Mae Sot, so I don't think you'll find much better. I will continue using the Centara, but hope they do some updates to the rooms...

Good Pace for a Stop Over”
There is a lack of good hotels in Mae Sot for a good night's sleep. A safe bet for anyone not familiar with this area will then be Centara. It's actually pretty affordable and reasonably priced, matching the very basics of lodging for the traveler. Yes the breakfast may not be extravagant, the corridors to the rooms are not lined with elaborate up-market facades, but hey, we were not there to stay in the hotel for a whole day just lazing in the compound and unwind. It's a good stopover hotel all in all for a night of decent sleep.

Good hotel in a beautiful area of Thailand ”
Quiet hotel, very professional and friendly staff. A little bit dated, maybe one of the older Centara hotels, but well kept. Situated just outside the main town area on a new intersection but there was no traffic noise in rooms. Also the new Robinsons shopping centre opposite is very handy with a Thai food court. Breakfast was great and the pool well maintained. The only downside was the wifi was temperamental and kept prompting sign in. We bought a SIM card on one phone and used the Hotspot. The pool is open to non guests which doesn't mean deluges of people but a few aid workers every day. It would be better for guests only.

Convenient Location, middle of the city”
the location of hotel sot is supurb. it is located in the middle of the city. it is safe, and very convenient to go any places in mae sot. however, since the hotel has been set up and was the best 4-stars hotel for years. facilities in room are quite old. it should be much more great if there would be grand renovations for the guest rooms. for example, showering zone in toilet, lighting in toilet, carpet in room. sure that the centara would still be the 1st choice of travellers to mae sot as always.
