I love this city you can eat real thai food and shopping people are very friendly and i have never feel so relax in a city but talk about the price with Taxi/ Mazda cars before and same about the busstation you need to know what station you go to so they don't drive you to the wrong one they get paid from the busstation same if you go to Koh Chang if you booking hotel just tell then what time you come they will pick you up at the ferry.
You need to know what you doing. But this is Thailand it's same everywhere i think.
Great place to relax and unwind away from the bustle of touristy places. This place is mainly for Thai residents and gem dealers but if you can get around the language barrier you will find that the majority of people living here are friendly and helpful.
Great food at local restaurants and very inexpensive if you eat with the locals. Delicious noodle and rice based meals. The Catholic Church near the river is not to be missed and rated as one of the top tourist attractions. The gown on the statue of Mary inside the Church is completely covered in blue and white sapphires with a touch of rubies too. Walk around the little streets around Gem Street and see the local men playing backgammon in open sided restaurant.
The province is very quite. It has a nice beach and great nature. Though, signs on the road could use some changes, there should be English road signs to make it easier to access by tourist.
In all, it was a very good experience.
We loved our time in this little town. It was so refreshing just to mix with the local people, eat in the small restaurants like they do and wander around feeling safe and adventurous.
We stayed in two different hotels during the Week we were here and both were within easy walking distance to the river and Gem Street. Shopping and having meals in the market was an experience as was shopping and eating in the large department store, Robinsons. Across the river are several nice eating places for an evening meal and even though the language was a barrier we were able to make our selves understood. Not many tourists come to this town as it is not very close to the beach but we really loved unwinding here. Just 3 hours on air con bus from Bangkok which cost us about 180 baht each!, and we were given a bottle of water and packet of biscuits on the bus! Famous for its gem markets, a great place to spend a few days!
Great city with lots to see. We stayed for two nights, but need to come back! We saw the main Cathedral, a really lovely man met us at the door and gave us the history of the cathedral.
The Taskin park was great for the kids to scoot around and we also feed the fish. The fruit market was plentiful and colorful. All the food we had was great. The nearby waterfall was beautiful, the kids loved swimming with the fishes. We will be coming back as never made it to the water front community or the mangrove walk and may more things we missed.
Just a rural area with many nice beach. Natural ,fresh air, there are many good restaurant seafood. Famous various kind of fruits is the main business for this town, try durian.
Mangosteen rambutan and mango. I like this town on behalf of fruit and seafood
I like Chanthaburi as here we can find both beach and mountain. However, the beach isnt that white sand one but it is clear and less people, moslty only Thai not westerns.
The beach is really relax and quiet. And if you like to see the mountain / waterfall, it is good place as well.
Fruit basket of Thailand. Come here for some of the best Durian around. Great to see how Thai people really live out in the country, not a single expat or tourist around.
Very friendly people.
if interested in the waterfall better visit the place in September or October, Khao Khitchakut National Park is a great place but it only opens from February to April
Recommended for a visit. It's historic city and plenty of local fruit that famous of Thailand as Darien, mango, mangosteen, long-gong or black pepper for cooking.
beautiful waterfall and beaches.
This town is my favorite in Thailand, i really love the people there, most have difficulty speaking in english but will try to help yu in the best way they can.
Forget Trat, Koh Chang and other neighboring islands, THIS PLACE IS THE ULTIMATE BEACH ADVENTURE! Quiet surroundings, delicious food, affordable price.
Chanthaburi is the province of fruit plantations and gems. You can get very cheap and nice fruits, as well as some cheap and quality jewelries.
it's a nice city, expecially the old part. You have a big gems market in the week end.If you know gems you can make real bargains
A very friendly Thai town with very helpful and friendly people..not to mention some of the best food style cooking in Thailand.
Simply put:....Love the food!
Chantaburi is the famous place for fruits field. If you can have chance in the season, I have recommended to visit fruits farm.
You can see and taste natural fruits growing.
Small town far away from Bangkok and industrial areas, many natural surroundings, farms and historic areas to visit and enjoy.
It has the worst designed roads on the planet and no signing. Then add double the cars the roads can handle and there you go.
Have you being there for many times and recommended to many of my friends ? This is my annual trip to this chanthaburi.
. Pictures tell 1000 words
very nice place to visit, good scenery, friendly people also has lots of attraction places to visit even have short time
Great place for seafood, fruits and natural park sight seeing. People are so nice and helpful. Living cost is sos cheap.
Quite a laid back province and you need to do a read up before you go as places of interest are all over the place.
Not far from Bangkok, drive only 2.30 hours. The place is very rich of food especially seafood and tropical fruit.
The province is not so busy and not crowded. Nice to visit during short weekend.
I first went to Chanthaburi on the way back from visiting Koh Chang island. We decided to explore Chanthaburi.
We found Chanthaburi is our ideal place for vacation, ordinary Thai place, peaceful, still not many foreign tourists, all places we have been to still very natural. Chanthburi is only 245 km from Bangkok.
You will enjoy everything in Chanthaburi. Tasting lots of fruit while relaxing by beaches and waterfalls.
In winter, you can stay in a valley cozy resort. Also, lots of activities to do; rafting, cycling by seaside or to border town.
Lots of places to go, beaches, waterfalls, villages. Land of Thai fruits (especially Durians). Great food.
when i stayed in chantburi is hot sea son and raining if any one like thai fruits you can find overthere
I came here with my husband just for one night on my way to Ko Kut. I wish I would have stayed longer.
I wasn't there on the weekend so i missed the gem markets which i'm sure are fascinating. The city has very few foreign tourists, mostly just Thai tourists. I really enjoyed not being around a bunch of loud farang (and I am from the US). I found the history of the town to be very interesting and the river and lake make it a pretty scenic and authentic Thai town. Would like to return!
