Fethiye is a tourist town with an international atmosphere, excellent marina, and good nightlife. The town also serves as an excellent base for touring the inland country-side, and is probably the only city in the world where you'll find sarcophagus in the streets. The nearest airport is found in Dalaman, and from there, the city can be reached in about an hour.
Historic sites and recreation amongst the natural elements make Fethiye a fascinating destination. One of the most enthralling sites is the 2,400-year old Tomb of Amyntas
. A scenic walk to these massive rock cut tombs offer superb views of the archipelago from its setting in the cliffs. Another ancient treasure can be found at Kadyanda
, complete with thousands of years of history, a Hellenistic theater, Roman baths, agora, temple, and cave tombs. Explore the city for Lycian sarcophagi that are scattered about, including one in the yard of the governor’s office. If in need of something a bit more adventurous, head to the beach for swimming, paragliding, and a range of other water sports. Paragliding is very popular here, and chartering a boat to explore nearby islands makes for a great day out.
