This is one of the most strategic hotels in Hakodate. Once exit from the JR station, its immediately to the right of the main entrance area. The tram station is also just within a stone's throw distance from the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, as always in Japan. The seafood bazaar is just adjacent to the JR station, which is again very near to the hotel. You can catch up with all the seafood delicacies, served fresh! Even the bus which takes you to the hill top scenic night view is also in front of the hotel within walking distance.

I believe it's the best hotel I've ever slept. They provide quality services and even a smartphone whick you can use when traveling. Also the room and the toilet are really clean. Wifi is fast. Although the location is quite far from the Hakodate station, there's a street car you can take to the hotel. Plus the Hakodate Mountain is 10mins walk. The only negative part is that the room is a little bit small, but I'm sure it won't be a major problem. Overall I really recommend this hotel if you're planning to visit Hakodate.

Interior of the hotel has the resemblence of a 4 or 5 stars hotel. Very nice looking. The rooms are superbly clean and the equipments look very new. One down side is the floor seems to be popping out at a few spots probably due to weather or bad carpentry. Location is some distance from JR, but not something one would shun away from unless they are not keen on exploring the area or handicapped, otherwise, we had fun making full use of the daily tram&bus passes to explore the main hakodate touristy and quieter areas. 1 of the best hotel in Hakodate for sure. We didnt make use of the free Onsen.

Although Hotel Mystays Hakodate Goryokaku is not located directly in Hakodate city center (15 minutes away), it is easily accessible by city tram, for which the tram station is right outside hotel doorstep. There are multiple department stores within walking distance and a convenience store (Lawson) on the first level of the hotel. Room is remarkably spacious as compared to other Japanese hotel. Our room had an great view of the city area with Mount Hakodate in the background. Also, room is spotless and the pajamas provided is very comfortable. Reception and valet staff are friendly and polite. Parking is reasonably priced at 700 Yen per night. Overall, we are very pleased with Hotel Mystays Hakodate Goryokaku and would highly recommend anyone who visits Hakodate to stay. Cheers :)

The hotel is just opposite to the Hakodate train station. There is a great onsen on the rooftop with panoramic view of Hakodate gulf. The seafood market is just near by with few minutes walk. Fast free WIFI is available entire the hotel, that's the best. The check-in time is 15.00 hrs which is a bit late and when they say 3 pm it really means 3 pm for a punctual nation like Japan, no exception even if the room is already prepared.

Beside JR Shinkasen station. I don't mind the location away from Hakodate town as we had unlimited JR ride using our JR pass. Excellence breakfast from Japanese to western dishes. Their onsen is also very well maintained as if you go at early hours or late night, you may have the honour to "book" the whole bathing area. Room is huge with breakfast and onsen and this is consider very cheap with the amount paid, it is very cheap in Japan. All is great except for the dinner at the same restaurant serving breakfast.. Maybe we ordered the dishes is served not to our taste liking.

Imagine you have 6 onset tubs to choose!! They put different herbs into each tub, such as ginger, lemon, tea leaves,.... It turns into colorful onset tubs. We so much love it. Both jap breakfast and dinner are superb quality, very recommend. We are happy we found our ideal onsen hotel in Hakodate. We definitely will go back!! Thumbs up quality. Excellent staff. Ver big studio rein.

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel so much! The traditional tatami room was spacious and featured an iconic scenery of the sea through Mount Hakodate. Dinner and breakfast buffet included in the package was fantastic! Local ingredients: seafood, beef, vegetables were all at fine quality and cooked perfectly that you forget it was a buffet! Staffs were friendly, helpful and spoke understandably English (not quiet fluent, but wasn't hard to understand). Souvenirs & gifts shop located at the lobby, which we bought so many goodies from Hakodate back. Highly recommend and surely second stay soon!

Me and my boyfriend has been traveling around japan for 3 weeks all the way from Osaka, Tokyo to Hakodate. We’ve stayed in 15+ hotels & hostels in japan so far, this one is definitely THE BEST❤️ the hostel itself is a very nice building, shared bunk bed room is spacious and clean, nice shower room, common area on all floors, the best part is that they have a outdoor balcony where you can chill with nice ocean view! Staffs are extremely friendly and helpful, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Will come back to Hakodate just for this stay:)

If you're looking for a decent hotel to stay in Hakodate, I recommend Hotel Kikuya. The location is great, with a short 4 minutes walk from JR Hakodate Station, Hakodate Bus Terminal, the Hakodate Tram station & behind the hotel is the Hakodate Asaichi Market (Morning Market). The staff are friendly & willing to help to ensure that my stay in Hakodate was pleasant as it can be. The room was spacious for a traditional style Japanese room & decently clean. Breakfast was rather mediocre, but the staff who hosted the breakfast was great, by going the extra mile to serve me sugar buttered toast with was awesome. Most of the breakfast foods was from Hokkaido farms. Great place to stay, even though the interior may look a bit dated; but for the price, you can't complain with the expectional service that the staff made my stay enjoyable & very welcoming.

For those who plan to book this hotel. My advise for you as below: Hotel shuttle 1 hour per ride to nearest mrt station. That mrt Station have very little train like 1 per hour if you are lucky. No taxi available from there to hotel after 9pm. Need to book taxi standby at Onuma Station. All attraction at Hakodate Town area. If you're traveller like me better stay at town area. The room is cheap but travel to town area wasted a lot of time. Best thing is you can get a airport limousine from Hakodate Airport direct to hotel.

The hotel is located near the Hakodate JR Station - about 15 minutes walk. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. The room size is big with clean bathroom. The breakfast is great with a wide variety of choices. This is one of the best hotels that I have stayed with during my recent trip to Japan. Would definitely stay with this hotel again during my next trip to Hakodate.

Location wise, this hotel is just the best you could get as it is just right in front of Hakodate Station. Although it was hidden right behind Smile Hotel, but it is not really difficult to spot it due to its appealing color. The facilities in the hotel room is just ordinary until you saw the smart phone located beside the bed, as you may bring along it for your travel in Hakodate during your stay period in the hotel. Not only because of the free internet and call service available with the smart phone, but it's also notify us about the weather and foody around Hakodate, where I found this is something REALLY convenience where I never seen in any other budget hotel.

This place is fantastic! The room is spacious enough and the hotsprings have so much variety in the type of baths for both indoor and outdoor. There's also a scented steam room and sauna with a TV. My favorite bath is the silky white one. The buffet at the hotel was good but not great. We had gotten a massage done there as well and the masseuse did a custom one for us as our sore spots were not covered by their packages unless we buy all of them. She was great! I felt so relaxed afterwards and had the best sleep of my two weeks in Japan. The lounge area just before the hotsprings have free tea, water, and something called hasukappu, or honeysuckle, juice. You gotta try it. Apparently, hasukappu is only available in Hokkaido and is not commonly sold in the rest of Japan. You can buy a small juice concentrate bottle from the souvenir shop for 700 yen at the train station. They also sell honeysuckle wine and jam if you like it a lot. I wish I stayed longer!

We stayed for 3days and it was one of the very best we have been to if you want some quite getaway with your love ones. The morning view was breathtaking, soaking in private onsen while watching the sun rised was just spectacular. Extremely romantic! The room is huge with everything you need. The food was ok but could be better but since stayed at annex we got soecial menus everyday. Nearby is ramen bus serving at night recommened to try very ancient. Also if you walk across the river (opposite lawson) there is a hi-end sushi place "Kihara" which is amazingly fresh and valuable. All in all our time in Hakodate will always be cherich the town so peaceful no crowded tourists. We are now planning to go back again soon.

Basically exceeded my expectations. The room is large and very nice and clean. Location wise might be a bit far from the main train station, but it is close to all the tourist spots, like Hakodate hill, the old churches district, etc. Facilities is a bit light, I.e. no ironing board, washing machine, gym, etc. But I would say very good accommodation for tourists looking to explore Hakodate.

The location is quite close to the public transport system. Room is small but clean, typical for most hotels in Japan (IMHO), breakfast is a small set meal, not like the buffet style offered in several other hotels also in this price range. Booked this hotel this time because I couldn't get a room elsewhere, overall the stay is comfortable, but for the price I believe there are better options in Hakodate if you book earlier.

This hotel has large rooms, is fairly new and well maintained. The public baths are nice with a pleasant outdoor rotemburo. Breakfast was excellent, dinner was large but the quality was just average for Japan, but understandable as such a good value hotel. This is not so important however as there are a few very good restaurants within walking distance. As several other reviewers have mentioned the staff is very friendly and there is small corner of the lounge with ice cream, coffee, and sparkling wine available most of the day. The hotel is a few kilometers out of the main part of Hakodate for sightseeing but just a few steps from the large onsen hotels. All in all, a good stay but happy we had our own vehicle.

A well thought out getaway location for couples who want to slow down and enjoy a private onsen in the comfort and convenience of their own room. The room was absolutely spacious and clean throughout. The temperature of the in-room onsen could be reduced, it was a little on the hot side, given it was the beginning of summer. All the small details made it special including in-room coffee pod machine and teas that paired well with the freshly baked rusks. A surprise and delight moment for us was the welcome dessert waiting in the fridge. Unlimited free drinks are provided at the bar between 3pm-11:30pm. From 9pm you can try a complimentary bowl of hot Japanese rice soup called ochazuke. Definitely visit the dainty Epuy cafe that has gorgeously presented pastries and breads baked daily. Also, if you get a chance, book for the Dinner degustation course, every plate that reached our table was Michelin star worthy. The entire stay exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!

Nice hotel in Hakodate. Less than a 10 minute walk from the JR train station (even in the snow, with suitcases)--a straight shot when you exit the station to the right. The hotel isn't the newest but it was very clean and it did not smell of smoke. The bathroom is larger than the one's we experienced in Tokyo. The Japanese breakfast buffet was delish--who wouldn't love to try a little bit of everything--from sashimi, curry, miso soup, omelets, Hokkaido potatoes/milk/yogurt, etc. The morning market is right between the hotel and the train station, too! The one con was the uncontrollable heating. As someone who is a hot sleeper, I found the room unbearable at night. There is no thermostat or window to open.

I may not be as well travelled as other people, but I have rented more than a dozen hostels from more than a dozen countries, and none of them comes close to the experience I had with Capsule Hotel Hakodate. From Sydney, to Bangkok, to Taipei, this is hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed in. - Great location! Just a stone’s throw away from the Street Car station! - Friendly staff! No hassle in conversations. - Has a 100 yen store in the lobby for almost all your immediate food needs! Comes with free teas and water too! - Very clean and orderly!!! Bathroom stalls are spacious, and toiletries are given for free, and there are plenty! They even use Shisheido for their Shampoos, Body Wash, and Conditioners. - Free to use towels and sleepwear! Very convenient! Hakodate is a great city, one of the best I have been to in Japan. Your stay will be much sweeter if you choose this hostel! -

My overall experience with Heiseikan Kaiyotei is very positive. I got a pretty good rate but could have revised my booking to enjoy a reduction should I have access to internet before the revision / cancellation deadline. The hot spring is good and not crowded. The buffet breakfast and dinner is good. I will recommend this hotel to any friends visiting Hakodate who want to visit a hot spring but will advise to check the rate frequently to see if there is a better offer closer to your booking date.

Everything was just great. Located near the Hakodate JR station and short walk to the market. Rooms are comfortable and really clean. Staff could speak simple English and was really really helpful. I needed help to book a pickup for my next hotel at Lake Toya and they assisted me with that and made sure its all good. Service is just excellent. I guess the only thing I have to pick on its just that size of the bed, its a little small. Otherwise, this is a great place to stay, and really good value for money.

i think it will be incredible to get a good room at this price. even though this ryokan is little far from hakodate station, by the tram it will not take so much time to go ryokan . onsen is little bit small but i saw many local peples in there and and i felt onsen water is really good because after taking onsen, i feel my skin is soften. room is clean and spacious but toilet will be small to big guys..😌

We stayed in Hakodate only for one night to see the night view of Hakodate, which is one of the most beautiful one in the world. Hotel Ekimae is a very good choice because it's just opposite to Hakedate JR station and very much near to the Hakodate mountain so that we could even walk there. The staff there is really helpful and caring. While the room is very neat and comfortable even it's a bit small. The hotel also provides free public sana bath, which can help you relax after the full day trip.
