Dormy Inn Kitami My husband and i were very impressed by this business hotel and would definitely return if we visit that part of Hokkaido again. Here are some reviews of our stay there: (+) couteous reception who spoke good English. She was clear in her instructions and was helpful with our questions. (++) All the staff we met, from reception to the kitchen staff were friendly and helpful. (+/-) Room was clean and neat, with all the basic amenities. But as of all business hotels in Japan.. space is limited but since we have stayed in even smaller ones before, Dormy Inn Kitami's room was decent enough - enough space for 2 luggages. (++) our booking of the hotel came with breakfast and well.. the quality of food was GREAT and the spread was sufficient. They served Snow Crab legs and steamed asparagus which were in season. They were also considerate enough to half the crab legs for easy eating. The price of the breakfast (¥1500) was really reasonable.

The hotel's twin room is basically the same or about the same size as its single room. It is therefore exceptionally small, made worse with hardly any "working" ventilation/air-conditioning. Our room window also opens just above a small dingy alleyway without any draft. The single room on the other hand is much better with at least reasonable room space. We feel that for the price paid, it is probably not so worth it unless there are no other options left. The carpark is free but located opposite the hotel, it has also very tight spaces which may be difficult to maneuver for large cars. Other than the above, the hotel staff is pleasantly helpful and breakfast itself is decent.

This hotel is in a good location in central Kitami. It is close enough to the station, shops, and restaurants. This is a hotel which has been partly renovated, but the smell of stale smoke in the entrance lobby is still there - for non-smokers like us did not make a good first impression. The staff seems friendly, but despite the fact we both spoke Japanese, there was a bit of panic when we appeared at reception. Breakfast was in the usual Japanese buffet style. It was just okay on the first morning, and on the second day most choices had disappeared, and a single staff member seemed to be asked to cover it all: cooking, dishes, serving, etc. This lovely lady was trying her best to do an impossible task. The Wifi never worked at all in our room despite the several routers seen in the corridor and one found in our room. You could use the Internet while standing next to the elevator. Overall, I have stayed at many traditional business hotels in Japan, but this place needs further improvement before I can recommend it.

our first night in japan was in this hotel, so first impression on the food, stay, staff and environment is very essential to us! we love the dinner and breakfast buffet so much that they provide many variety. however, it is a bit difficult for us to know what "it is" as they only provide japanese description. the staff is friendly though they cannot speak english. myself also enjoy the spa in the hotel. the souvenir shop is a great place to shop too! my dislike is no english provision at all, we can't even brew the coffee by looking at the it.
