Beautiful island, with white sandy beach and crystal clear water. Easily access because all are walking distance.
The food and souvenir quite expensive.
Koh Lipe was a nice beach. However, due to over development we can see the island become too commercial and everything price almost double compared to mainland.
However, the beach is really something.
Small cozy island with slowed down atmosphere, relatively easy to access with ferries from Phuket, Krab and Malesia
Beautiful beaches. There's a lot of people but it's not packed. Very serene at times. Nice view of sunset and sunrise.
Snorkeling is just mediocre but the Pattaya Beach itself is so beautiful.
Can take ferry from Langkawi, Malaysia or Thailand. Use credit card with charge 3%, have money changes and ATM at Koh Lipe.
Improvements need to be made to the Immigration process as it was very chaotic. It was very disorganized and the person giving out instructions could hardly speak English.
There are not enough immigration officers present during weekends. The day i departed we had a few hundred people in Queue waiting to get their passport processed however there was only 1 immigration officer on duty. Ferry was delayed as a result which caused a cascade effect for some of us to miss flights we scheduled during late afternoon.
Love this island. Beautiful scenery, Beautiful beaches. Nice hotel. Great people. One things we didn't like was the immigration custom at Koh Lipe might have some bias.
They arranged the passports according to the countries instead of first come first serve! If you are whites and come from Europes or America etc, you will be given priority to pass through the custom faster, whereas, if you are Asians and come from Asia countries. You will be reserved for the LAST till ALL THE WHITES were gone! I love Koh Lipe but I dont think I will ever come back if they still practice such BIAS to Asians.
It is a poorly manage island. It has a very beautiful beach and coral. But unfortunately the management (the local authority and private co.
)of this island is "teribble". Start with how we getting in to the Island from Langkawi - the is NO Queue, I means no use to queue. The boat co. people in charge will "kidnap" your passport during the check in and out process, I have no idea why they want to do this and no want tell us why this need to be done, my guess is they worried some of the tourist will "escape" the process become illegally entered to the beach. So the process are: 1. Get the boat tickets and surrender your passport to them by the boat co. people 2. After ?all the passengers given their passport then the boat co. people will give you back your passport and you have to queue up in front the immigration officer for legal procedure. (The way they give back your passport is - "shout your name" and without clarify your identity. So it means someone want to take your passport, it is basically no one will question it) 3. After you have stamp on your passport and prepare to be boarding, they will again collect your passport. These "protocol" are same at both Langkawi-koh lipe and koh lipe-langkawi Back to the Island, the main beach is pattaya beach. unfortunatelly swimming at the beach is potentially danger. There are a lot of boats in and out the along beach. You may hit by spinning blade of the boat. Luckily during our stay nothing happened. i am not sure whether the other two beaches ( sunset and sunrise beach) are the same or not
Still largely underdeveloped unlike Koh Samui or Phuket, this island offers its visitors clean and clear waters excellent for snorkellling.
There are also cheap charters to take you to the santuaries where you can see even more exotic corals and fish. It has a walking street, where loads of restautants with abundance of seafood and other western as well as local dishes to entice you. The island is thriving with many tourists and it is hoped that the authorities can keep the island from being over developed.
Koh Lipe is an island resort and is an excellent place to go to dive, snorkel, enjoy the beach, eat good food and spend time with friends and/or family.
The main attraction are the beaches. There is very good snorkeling and leisure beach activities (not the place for surfing), it caters to travelers. However, though the Thai people there are mostly friendly and the food is delicious, Koh Lipe is not the best place to go to experience Thailand.
If you want to appreciate the beauty of the beach with the clearest water, look no further. Small and cozy island that is not so commercialized.
...at least for now.
A must to take the Plankton and Sunset snorkelling trip. Worth every penny. Hands down the best massage place goes to Bundhaya Resort.
For chilling out and Thai food, I love Cafe Lipe at Pattaya Beach (It's covered by trees, a few doors away from immigration). Papaya mum is also quite good. Forever at Sunset Beach serves good, unpretentious food but the walk there is quite far and certain part of the untarred road seem deserted (Please walk there with friend or in a group). Irregardless which beach i visited, i still find long tails, so just pick a spot with lesser long tails to swim in. The island is filled with dogs and cats in blissful slumber. It's a slice of heaven on earth
it was a good escape from stress. However, they force to purchace a national park ticket even you have no plan to go snorkeling.
If you come from pak bara, you need to pay total 270 baht but langkawi doesn't need to pay those thing. The overall scenery and food is good except the staff in long boat platform very rude. The island was solely controlled by single company now. I think this is my first and last visit to this beautiful island. nice beach and view but bad management. The sunset beach full of rubbish and bottles too.
we have experienced the worst immigration ever. And we have spend most of our time waiting for the immigration/custom to do their DUTY.
Slippers and shorts are good enough for walking around town. Travelling to this island only via ferry or boat as there is no airport on the small island.
Boats had to stop at a floating jetty and travel to the island beaches via motorized boat. Then had to jump into knee high water to get to the island. Thus shoes and long pants are not recommended. Resorts and beaches are short distance from town. Town consist of narrow cement road where largest vehicle is motorbike with 3 wheels. Plenty of restaurants and grocery shops plus Thai Spas along the street and with reasonable price.
My trip was only 3 days or to be exact, it's 2 full days. It felt short as there are few snorkeling trip to chose from.
I picked the Plankton trip which includes a dinner at the sunset. It was a memorable event for me and my partner.
Truly the maldives of Thailand. Clear, azure waters at your doorstep. You won't even need boat trips to enjoy the underwater world.
A small island with friendly local people. Fresh seafood, nice island for snorkeling & scuba dive for coral & marine life.
Visit to sunset beach around 6pm and sunset beach around 6am. It's a must for snorkeling trip and take up challenge to diving trip.
Must bring sunblock there and it's awesome to hang around at pattaya beach as it's the main attraction in koh lipe. All places within walking distance. Unfortunately, EXTREMELY slow immigrant department's service. Be prepare to waste half a day there when you arrive koh lipe.
Probably one of the most beautiful islands. Really less commercialization as compared to the amount of travelers that visit/stay on the island.
Lovely, lovely people and amazing food! Really tough to leave such a place. There are so many small things all over this tiny island that it's impossible to prioritize and list some of them down but undoubtedly you are bound to fall in love with each of these small things! After visiting Lipe, I feel so possessive about the place that I would not want to recommend it to anyone only to keep it as human-free as possible!
Nice crystal clear water, a good place for family with great snorkeling spot. We did 3 dive, it was not too bad with really nice water temperature.
Plenty of snorkelling and diving centres around, charges are very reasonable, communication is not a problem as most of them can converse in English, friendly people around, the sea is beautiful, the beach is clean, a place to go for a short getaway every now and then.
Gorgeous waters. Easy access to everywhere on the island. Class A food quality in restaurants. Super calm and relaxing.
Koh Lipe is a relaxing island, a very small island without many cars. The taxi is of motorbike with a small cart beside.
Would recommend to spend 4 days 3 nights there. Foot massage is cheap, 300 baht per hour. The price of tour package is standardized whole the island.
It was my first time to the island and I have no idea what to expect. I must say that we were very well taken care of by the staff from the resort.
It was quite an adventurous trip as well as the ferry doesn't take you directly to the island. You would have to get off the 50-seater ferry then transfer to a small 'sampan'. Be prepared to climb up ladders and get your feet wet. People on the island were generally friendly and it has a very peaceful beach. I would recommend taking a Tuk Tuk around the island to see the different parts of Koh Lipe. Do remember to bring an umbrella if you are travelling during the wet season and perhaps a torch light as many places are not well lit. The beach is beautiful with clear waters. It's a good place for relaxing.
relaxed thai island away from the thai tourism craziness, a bit more pricey as it is secluded, well connected to langkwai and andaman region spots further to the north
It was wonderful holiday for me which spend my time at Lipe. People so friendly, Beach is so beautiful, Underwater world is so exciting for me.
I will come back again.
I was looking for an island which is relatively less populated with tourists, yet has enough culture and natural attraction to enrich my stay.
It provided me those exactly, and the water was so clear to make snorkeling experience extra special. Very nice place which I would love to come back in the future.
Koh Lipe, a small and cozy Island that you can go to any attraction in the Island by foot. White sandy beaches with turquoise sea, unique handy crafts, friendly islander.
.... You will definitely make a second visit or more.
nice scenery :) i spent 3 days on Lipe island. The nature is so beautiful. Their beaches have many characters for you to visit.
