Find Hotels in Matsumoto, Japan

My stay with Matsumoto Back Packers was for just one night, it's short and sweet. Just 5-min away from the train station and bus terminal connecting to major cities around. The hostel itself provides every basic thing you'd need, while the hosts were so friendly and helpful to provide you with travelling tips. P.S. first time to stay with a hostel with futon/ in tatami style, a very Japanese experience

Just to clarify, Hotel M is not a purely capsule hotel. There are also separate room accommodations. Pros: Really, really clean. Well, that's what you get when the rules "force" you to leave your shoes even before reaching the reception desk. Don't worry, you just need to switch your shoes with the slippers available in the shoe lockers. There are even separate slippers for toilets. Everything seems to be well organized. Location is near Matsumoto station. There are a lot of eateries. Also, Matsumoto Castle is very reachable by following just a single road (almost). Cons: Lack of English translations for hotel rules/instructions. I had to rely on observing other people and of course, Google translate. Even the staff had difficulty speaking in English except for one of the male staff. If you are assigned on a top capsule, climbing up could prove difficult as the steps can only accommodate 1 foot at a time. Lockers are a bit small but they do allow storage of big luggage in the recep

GH Shima Shima is located <5 mins walk from ShinShimaShima Stn from the Dentetsu Kamikochi Line, which is ~30mins travel time from Matsumoto Stn, frequency 40mins - 1hr. It is a great option for exploring Kamikochi and Norikura Highlands early in the morning as buses going there depart from ShinShimaShima Stn. I booked the female dorm (tatami-style), but was the only occupant for 2 nights. The Host is friendly and helped with my laundry that could not dry in the rain by using a stronger fan on his own initiative. Thanks for that! There are 2 shared showers located on the 1F which are spacious. 100Y coin lockers (money returnable) are available on 1F to store valuables if needed. Common room is spacious with collection of interesting books, and kotatsu available! Located away from the city, GH ShimaShima is very peaceful. I did not see dining options within walking distance except for the convenience store, so it is better to bring your own food. It is kind of dark at night on the road as there are minimal street lighting.

We arrived around 6pm, it was already dark so a bit hard to find the hotel just by using google map. Hotel is not close to the train station, and words on google map are all in japanese so had quite a trouble finding it. However, when we arrived we were greeted by this lovely man at reception. He's quite old but very energetic and helpful. Very pleasant to deal with. He explained about Matsumoto and its attractions, etc. Check in was smooth. The hotel room was comfortable, from its bed, pillows, toiletries, amenities, etc. Towels, yukata and slippers are provided. Hot bath and shower, toilet was spotless, so does the room. I did say that location isn't very close to the train station, but its about 2-3mins walk from Matsumoto Castle. Would be happy to stay here again if I ever visit Matsumoto in the future. We only had the pleasure of staying in Matsumoto for one night during our trip to Japan. I was so happy with our decision to stay at tabi shiro guesthouse during our stop. I would highly recommend. The staff was wonderful to us and our baby (1 year old). The futons were comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean and nice compared to other shared bathrooms I’ve used during travel. We appreciated the free drinks at the bar and recommendations for dinner and breakfast. If I get a chance to visit Matsumoto again I would see if I could stay here.

Well, it's just a short one day stay for my visit to Kiso valley, as matsumoto is has more options in term of staying than other nearby small station near the valley. I chose the mixed dorm and shared with another Japanese guy there for work. It's pleasant experience. The hostel is quite cold, when they don't open the heater, so be mindful of that, but it's quite common for home stay to be like that. You might not enjoy the experience for shower and toilet, as it's quite cold. but for me, it's okay, as I am getting used to it, like I said, it's common. Hostel is clean, the host has very good English, and she has to waited for me till 10pm for the check-in. She doesn't stay in the hostel. I am very grateful for that. hostel is extremely close to the castle. so it's easier to visit. Overall, it's pleasant experience. Try to experience the coldness in Japan while you choose to travel in Winter season, whether you like it or not, it's part of the deal, so try to enjoy it.

A cheap, simple and 100% Japan culture experience. 10-15mins walk from Matsumoto station. Located beside a river . Quite and friendly place. Two route to reach the place from Matsumoto station. Alps Exit(West Exit) - a bit longer but you don't need to climb stair Oshiro Exit(East Exit) - need to carried your luggage up and down the overhead bridge There is a lady who can speak a little English but she is only around in the morning. I stayed 5 nights in a 6 tatami mats room with a TV, a small refrigerator and a decent size table. Just the right size for a solo traveller. Shared toilet and basin area are right beside the my room. Free Wifi. The bathroom and dressing room are connected by a door so when you bath you lock the dressing room door and have the whole place to yourself. Traditional Japanese bathroom style with a hot spring bath tub able to fit at least two people. Located at level one right behind the resection area. Asked for a pickup from Matsumoto station when I arrived but they didn't replay my email. When I'm leaving I manage to ask them to send me to the station.

This place is just right in front of Matsumoto station (across the road). It is convenient as there are many Izakays and food places around it. Toyota Car rental is also just right beside it, which makes car rental and return easy. The best part of this hotel is the breakfast cafe located on the 10th floor. It gives an almost 180 degree view of the mountains that surround Matsumoto and just splendid to start the day with.

While its not the closest hotel to Matsumoto Station it certainly is one of the best value hotels in the area. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was also included upon my booking at no extra charge. Its about a 10 min walk from Matsumoto Station. Overall I would stay here if I was in the area. The castle is another 10 min walk from the hotel as its at the midpoint of the station and the beautiful castle of Matsumoto.

We were in the little apartment section for one night and it was lovely. Even has a little garden to relax in. The family were absolutely lovely, the daughter's English is impeccable and was happy to answer all of our questions and gave us the best explanation of changes in Japanese politics - not something you can get from a book! Nice to use the bikes to get into Matsumoto, really relaxing stay in general. Highly recommended

Super Hotel Matsumoto is one of the best hotel we love in this trip. The location is only 5 mins walk from JR Matsumoto station. We really impressed with hotel staff, the lady we met when check-in was so service-minded and we're really impressed with her. Breakfast is kind of healthy breakfast and all items are very tasty. Even the hotel amenities in bathroom like shampoo and conditioner is all organic item, nice smell and really good quality. We will come back in our next trip for sure :)

The hotel is located just a minute walk from the Matsumoto station. Matsumoto castle is also about 15-20 minute walk away. Times car Plus station is right next door. The staff were very polite and helpful. As we reached early and departed late, they offered to keep our luggage in safe custody. All questions were answered well. Some of the staff could speak good english. Our room was on the 8 th Floor with some vending machines. The room was clean, stocked with amenities and just big enough for a couple of persons. We booked early and got a good deal.

There is nothing bad we can say about Hotel New Station's staff. Even though we changed our plans and inquiry three times (and even I have to admit some of them sounded kinda complicated), they always stayed not only polite but very friendly. Our inquiries were via email and the hotel's responder was very proficient in English (something that can not be taken for granted in Japan). We also met at least three staff members at the hotel, who we could communicate with in English without any problems (unfortunately nobody in our little group is proficient in Japanese). We stayed in a three bed Twin Deluxe room for our first night. A very spacy and comfortable room in which we were able to leave our luggage open. It also had a very nice view over the city (although the window glasses had a wire weave embedded, which wasn't optimal for taking pictures). For our second night all we had to do was pack our stuff and go for sightseeing. When we returned, the hotel's staff had already moved our luggage to our small double room. The second room was admittedly a little small and had the typical Business hotel size: 1.2m bed, small table and a small bathroom with shower and (western half-size, maybe Japanese standard?) bathtub. But since we only needed a clean place to stay, it was more than sufficient. Both rooms were very clean, and even though we made a mistake by booking a smoker's room for the first night, the room itself barely smelled of cigarettes. As the name suggests, the hotel's location is very near the city's main station (Matsumoto station) in a walking distance of less than 5 minutes, located in a friendly open neighborhood. There are quite a number of bars and restaurants nearby, as well a few konbini and at least one fast-food restaurant. We can recommend the hotel for any travellers on a budget, who only need a clean and central place to stay at.

The hotel is 5 mins walk from the train station, quite but very close to the busiest town centre. Staffs are very attentive and polite. The room is not too big (but that's the norm in Japan), clean and very tidy. You can rent free bicycle directly from the hotel, and get half price tickets to the main attraction Matsumoto Castle (you need to ask the staff) Fir the price we pay it well exceeded our expectation. The only thing we can pick on was the quality of the breakfast buffet, it's not too bad but not too much choices. We will definitely come back again for our next visit to Matsumoto.

While not a new hotel and Matsumoto is a little way off the beaten track, we enjoyed our stay. Richmond hotel is a 10 minute walk to the train station, and 15 min walk to Matsumoto castle. Our room was spacious compared to others in Japan, clean, air conditioned, and functional, with western bath/shower all for a reasonable price per night. Washing/drying machines, microwaves, ice machines & drink vending machines were available on two floors. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and lively at night near the station.

I like this hotel because of the location, near to the JR Matsumoto station. Easy for us to move around by train. Also you can go to Matsumoto castle with walking distance. We arrive early but cannot check in so we just store our luggage at the hotel. When we arrive late in the evening after sightseeing, their staff already put our luggage in the room. As for the air conditioner, the room take time to cold. We forced to turn off the heater. Sadly, we just spend for one night. I’ll stay again at this hotel if there is any promotion during my next trip. Thank you for your hard work.

The location is wonderful. The staff spoke enough English to be helpful. They were very friendly and polite. I love the onsen. The ambience and the peacefulness and the cleanliness was wonderful. Bathed there once we got there and then once again at night just before going to bed. According to the staff, Dormy is the only hotel in Matsumoto Central to have the natural onsen waters. Definitely worth another trip there again.
