Sum up: highly recommended! high C/P hotel What else can you ask for such great quality with that price? Staffs are friendly, facilities are a little bit old but clean. Rooms are warm. Cute little decorations are everywhere showing the love and caring from this hotel. Breakfasts are also included in the price so you don't have to go outside on cold winter morning but staying inside and enjoying beautiful winter sunshine. The most important, you can have the outside onsen pool while snowing. (It's 24 hr opened). Various kinds of shampoo and conditioners are provided so that you can choose your favorite flavors. Nice Natural Garden Nikko shines my winter trip to Nikko. But only one thing you need to care about: its location is quite far. You need to take a bus around 15 min to get there. It takes around 10 min to walk to the nearest supermarket.

The hotel was very nice and clean. The area is very quiet. It is easy to get to Nikko, but you have to be willing to walk to the train station and be aware that the trains are much less frequent than in other parts of Japan (once per hour). It is most convenient if you bring your own car. They had a nice buffet with a wide variety of food and there was always evening entertainment in the lobby. The private onsens are excellent. We would stay there again if we went to the area.

I traveled with my young children and my parents to Nikko for a 3 night stay at Nikko Station Hotel Classic. We enjoyed the stay very much. The location of the hotel is right across from the train stations. If driving there is ample, free parking available. To get to the main tourist attractions you will have to walk up about 20 minutes or catch a bus that will take you right there. There is also parking for 500yen right at the shrines. The people working at the front desk were very helpful. We found the convenience of the onsite restaurant to be a major plus. Especially with small children. Our breakfasts were included and the serve a buffet of western food and also have typical Japanese breakfast options as well. We dined at the restaurant for dinner and thought it was very good (not a typical Japanese menu, more Western). We were in walking distance to some small shops, bakeries and restaurants. The room was a good size and the bathrooms were typical for Japan. The hotel was very modern and very clean. We did not use the onsen but it looked very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Nikko is beautiful!

I would give more stars if I could. This is the best hotel I’ve ever been. Locations were good, it’s just infront of Chuzenji Lake and you can reach famous Kegon Falls by walk. The staffs are very very polite, they served us like a king and queen. It’s funny sometimes because they were too good everytime, they have high minimum service operation to visitors. And don’t you ever try to tip them as they said they serve fully with heart. Bedroom are really nice and sparkling clean, it’s very spacious, we have no complain at all in the hotel. Lake view from the room were astonishing as our view that time was much snow. At night, we tried their japanese dinner course - it’s ¥3,000 exclude tax per person, but it’s really worth to try! They got delicious food which made me speechless and wanna cry, their pork belly and desert in particular. But remember, japanese dinner set could be different every season, we went there around spring (13-14 april, yes it’s spring but still got lot of snow at Chuzenji), talking about food, Nikko was famous in their Strawberry and Yuba (tofu skin) which appear in Jay Chou’s Initial D film. :) We like bathing in the onsen so much, the pond was small but more than enough to get the feel, the shower room and dry closet was the best, too. Soap, Conditioner, and Shampoo got the best smell I’ve ever had, try it yourself! I highly recommend this hotel! Minus point : no lift maybe because they are semi authentic hotel, but no big deal as they can bring ur luggage up and down. Furthermore about our journey, if you go up until Yuno Lake you will pass the hardest initial D track when the mainchar (Takuma) sent Tofu from Gunma! Although you have professional bus driver, Prepare your heart coz the bus went down could be really scary for somepeople! Thankyou Hatago, Will definitely coming back! :)

Thanks a lot for your great services during our stay. This is clearly the best night of our honeymoon trip in Japan. Everyone in the hotel treated us with excellent services. They really did the best to provide the best service. The hotel is so beautiful and clean and so peaceful. The outdoor onsen is amazing. The public onsen is also great. The hotel also arranged the Japanese futon bedding for us besides the Western beds in the room. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast are at top quality, so beautiful and delicious. We appreciate all the dishes were explained carefully by our lady. The location of the hotel is perfect for our plan to explore the Nikko national park/ Jizo abyss. The hotel picked us up at Toshogu and dropped us back to the train station. We will definitely come back here next time we are back to Nikko. Arigatogosaimasu!

We checked into the hotel quite late at night. Was kinda sad because we arrived nikko later than expected and i thought we were gonna miss the dinner.. but to our pleasant surprise the staff actually kept the food aside and set it up for us, even though it was about 2h past the stated dinner time! The traditional dinner (and breakfast too) was SO amazing - gotta try it to get the full ryokan experience!! Staff are genuinely welcoming and very very helpful. Hot spring was 10/10, as expected, we went there every. single. night. (and maybe the mornings too) It's definitely not the cheapest/ most affordable ryokan in nikko but honestly, this place is worth my every dollar spent. So damn glad we chose to stay here - highly recommended for those visiting nikko, especially if it's your first ryokan stay.

Here is what I wish I knew before booking Kanaya Kinugawa: Pros: -the staff are the sweetest and go to great lengths to communicate and serve -the food is superb, some of the best we had in Japan. Things we had tried in other restaurants and didn’t enjoy, the restaurant at Kanaya converted us into fans of that dish. Truly everything we ate was beyond delicious. -the views are beautiful. Not breathtaking but beautiful -the open air private onsen is memorable and something worth experiencing for 1 night Cons: -it is FAR. not in Nikko at all (30min train ride away) and 2 hours from Tokyo and it’s not worth it. It is in a deserted resort town. Don’t waste your time in Japan making this trek, you’ll be disappointed. -it is EXPENSIVE. Despite paying $750 USD/night they will upsell everything from beverages to even changing your dinner dish if you don’t like a particular protein. -not all rooms have a private onsen - double check Overall beautiful but value isn’t there

Really appreciate the level of service that Matsuya hotel provides. As we did not have a dinner reservation, they recommended and drove us to a local dinner shop nearby. Even though they tried to communicate with us with some limited English, their level of service is phenomenal and we will definitely return to Matsuya again. The onsen inside and outdoors are awesome! Breakfast was great too! This is THE RYOKAN to go to for a real taste of Japan.

It is easier to get here by car than train... it is about 45 minutes from Nikko proper using mass transit. The rooms are a little dated and wall paper peeling a little bit. However the rooms are super clean. The futon was especially comfortable. The little snack and tea they left delicious. The view from the room was amazing. The Onsen was great as well. The breakfast was a bit hectic but a good time with good and plentiful options.

It was a great value of money, the hotel provides us with an authentic Japanese experience. Though the shower area was very small (I believed it was placed there during renovation of the hotel), the room itself was very spacious. Location was ok, not far from Nikko city center, but there’s not much going on during the night time in the area. Overall, I had quite a good time during my stay. Recommend for traveler with a budget.

This was the first hotel I stayed at during my trip to Japan. I stayed in the annex portion (down the street a bit). One bit of warning, the hotel locks up from 11pm - 7am. no-one gets in or out. I almost missed last check-in (arrived at 10:42pm) and am not sure what would have happened if I arrived after 11pm. The hotel is about half way between the train station and most of the sites of Nikko, and right near the bus station. There is a convenience store across the street. The rooms are small, and the bathroom was tiny, but that seems pretty common here. The bed was quite hard, but was comfortable enough. In my room, there was an alarm clock and power outlets built into the headboard. 3G/LTE reception was 0 in the hotel. Outside I could get 3 bars on my emobile modem. The hostest was very friendly, but didn't speak much english, but she was patient with my broken japanese and we figured it all out. She makes a wonderful breakfast, don't pass it up. If I ever manage to return to Nikko, this will be my first choice of hotel. Loved it.

I know Japan and onsen very well. Yumoto Itaya Onsen is perfectly located in the heart of Yumoto, a small, remote town in the Nikko area. It is mid to small sized, charming, historic, and comfortable. It is not brand new, impressive or 4-5 stars. It is a humble, family run lodging that has taken care of itself and cares about its customers. My room had new tatami mats, a sign in Japanese hospitality of good upkeep. everything was clean, the meals were delicious, the staff spoke some English, the baths were wonderful but a little small, and the location is unbeatable if you want to be in Yumoto and Oku-Nikko, the more remote part of Nikko. They demonstrated a very high level of hopsitality and care. Better to go with someone, but perfectly fine if you're on your own. Probably great for groups. A great place to stay. I would return.

It's a beautiful ryokan with nice onsens. You should consider this place only if you have more time spent in Nikko. Be prepared to spend half a day traveling to this place. Good for those looking for ultimate relaxation The place feels so "Zen"! It's a perfect place for anyone who wants to get back to nature. There's a small beautiful stream just 10 min walk from the ryokan. The food is amazing too. And the best thing is the beautiful onsen! There are 2 female only onsen (1 indoor and 1 outdoor) and the rest are konyaku style onsen. For ladies who prefer females only onsen, the ryokan restrict access to all the onsens to female only from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. Although the ryokan is full, somehow everytime I get to onsen there's no one around at all and I get to enjoy the onsen all by myself. Consider going during dinner / breakfast timing.

I booked a single bed in a 8-bed dorm room. The bed was a bunk bed, with a fair enough good mattress. It has an electric heated mattress. The bed comes with its own sockets, privacy curtains, and does not have any own light. For this dorm (and the rest of the floor), there are 1 shower, 2 toilets and 1 separate sink. The shower is clean, with a medium power shower and hot water. There are body wash and shampoo disposals. The dorm has a small locker. It comes with a lovely kitchen, where you can cook/heat up your food. It has a comfy communal area with sofas. The wifi was very good. Tiny towel is provided. It does not come with breakfast. The hostel is located to close to few spots to eat out and mini markets. 10sec walk to the stops of all the buses going around Nikko sightseeing spots 20sec walk to Nikko Tobu Station. 3min walk to Nikko JR Station. With regards to the staff, I was welcomed by Sei, who runs the place and speaks a good english if needed. I would definitely recommand this place for a short or long stay. The bed does not have any own light. For this dorm (and the rest of the floor), there are 1 shower, 2 toilets and 1 separate sink. It was not an issue for me, but you can face some waiting during peak hours.

We have really enjoyed our 2 nights stay here but this hotel may not be for everyone. If you like to stay in historical places this place is for you. It is a bit faded. Pros: Scheduled hotel shuttle bus from / to the station (even of you miss it the local bus stops near the hotel); Nice friendly staff; Lovely historical feel of the common areas; great views. LOCATION - very close to the main attractions - you can't get closer. Nice breakfast - go for the Japanese breakfast rather than Western (worth the extra payment); Large room with great view (we stayed in superior double); Access at discount price to the onsen at the other Kanaya hotel located on the lake - catch their shuttle there - 30-40 min very scenic drive. The onsen was great and not crowded. You can also catch a public bus there. We had dinner at the steak house right outside the hotel - it was excellent. Make sure to try the local Nikko mushroom. Note - Nikko is dead after 8pm and all restaurants are closed. Try Bar de Nikko for a meal one night - 5 min walk from the hotel, run by one men - excellent food and friendly. Cons: it is expensive; bathrooms are dated and toiletries are basic for the hotel of this ranking (packets of shampoo that are impossible to open with wet hands); no onsen on premises (but see above). When booking select the room with a view. A friend travelling with us chose "room allocated on arrival" that wasn't that much cheaper - and ended up looking at the roof with air-conditioning. Restaurants at the hotel are very expensive. No non-smoking rooms (not uncommon for Japan). Having said all that we would stay here again.

Stay Nikko Guesthouse is a wonderful option if you are planning a visit to the town. We found our traditional tatami room an absolute pleasure, as were our hosts. Some of the best hospitality we have experienced in Japan combined with good, clean facilities were important to us after a long journey and so we were very happy. The location is good, right near the river so, if you choose the river facing room, you will have lovely sounds to rock you to sleep at the end of a hard day's walking. There is lovely music playing in the house and some excellent local knowledge, maps and advice all on hand. Also, not to be overlooked, a great Japanese-style breakfast is provided and it is delicious! In fact, one of the nicest meals we have had in Japan. Very comfy bedding too! Oh, and we were given a lift back to the station on the day we checked out. Just very kind, nice touches. Cannot fault, you should book today :-)

My trip involved walking from Tokyo to Nikko, and I was mostly looking for hotels in which to just sleep for a cheap price. Being Golden Week in Japan, most of the hotels I stayed in were more expensive than their worth, however, Hotel Famitic Nikko was a real bargain. The staff was welcoming when I arrived, and not shocked to the point of not-being-able-to-communicate because I was a foreigner who can communicate in Japanese. The facilities were very clean, and the amenities were ample. The hotel is a very short walk to the Tobu Nikko Station which was very convenient, not because I rode the train, but because a lot of stores and things are centered around it. It was also a short walk to Nikko Toshogu. All-in-all, Hotel Famitic was the best hotel I stayed at on my trip. It was the cleanest, most accommodating, and the best overall value for my money.

We had the best stay at Honke Bankyo. The ryokan is situated in a small town deep in the mountains so it was quite a long journey to get there. The scenery along the way was beautiful so it made the trip very enjoyable. The staff at the ryokan were all very welcoming and helpful. Our room was on the top floor and had an amazing view overlooking the river and the suspension bridge. The room itself was very spacious and beautifully set out. Dinner and breakfast were both wonderful. I particularly enjoyed dinner, which was one of the best dining experiences I had during my trip. While we were out at dinner, the staff had prepared our futon beds and left us drinking water, which I thought was very thoughtful. The private onsen, which you can book when you check in was a great way to wind down at the end of the night. All in all, we loved our stay at Honke Bankyo and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Nikko Guesthouse Sumica is unbelievably close to Tobu-Nikko and Nikko stations. I barely walked towards the other side of the station and it was there, so you can rush to the bus station too if you don't want to miss the bus. The owners are lovely, we talked about Japan and my country and shared some experiences. Congratulations again for your 7th anniversary! Now, the rooms are nice, but since it's an old house, the floor creaks and the doors make noise when you slide them so please keep that in mind. The stairs, which lead to the female dormitory and family rooms, and very steep so be careful when going up and down, and especially if you are carrying luggage! There's only one shower so choose well at what time you need to shower and be patient and understanding when others are using it and you're in a hurry. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

i booked okunikko konishi hotel but when arrived there to call for picking up at somewhere near the hotel and just found out that the hotel was not what i had booked. The hotel name is okunikko konishi hotel but they did not have our booking number. it was another hotel called okunikko kogen hotel. There is next to the hotel. i did not what was wrong between them. i stay at okunikko kogen hotel. it is a nice hotel and staff are very friendly. our dinner is full of various tasty food. There is near to bus stop 46. it is very convenient.

This is a (modified) traditional ryokan (Japanese inn). You wear shoes in the hotel common area but not in your room, which has traditional Japanese floor bedding. It was comfortable and clean, though not large, with ample bedding. There is a traditional Japanese onsen (public bath) but it's not exactly 'public' because there is only one - usually there's a men's and a women's bath. I took one dip (it was fine), but it's on a first-come, first-served basis and they ask you to limit to 20 minutes, which is also fine for me, anyway. Breakfast was a very good value at 1000 yen ($10) - heaps of wonderful fresh fruit, excellent toast, choice of coffee/tea/juice/boiled egg. However, it is limited to sittings at 8 and 8:30 which may not work if you need an early start. LOCATION: Good side: you are close to some top attractions in Nikko, especially the temple complex, and a nice venue if you just like a solitary walk down a pedestrian pathway along the river with rows of Buddha statues as company (my favorite memory from Nikko!). Bad side: it's pretty far (maybe 15 minutes) by taxi, which will run about 1300 yen. The bus (270 yen, I think) comes to within the last 1/2 km but you'll need to keep asking directions because the maps aren't very detailed. I took the bus to the hotel and a taxi back to the station.
