More about Phetchabun
From Bangkok’s Morchit bus terminal, it’s easy to find many buses with service to Phetchabun, especially as this town is a popular stopover on the way to Lom Sak. Once in town, getting around is best done either by motorcycle taxis or renting a car in a bigger town, especially if planning to explore as much of the city’s attractions as possible.
Wat Phra Sorn Kaew, one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand, is located in Phetchabun. This stunning temple is located on a hill, overlooking the surrounding mountains and spectacular natural beauty. The temple is the original home of the Emerald Buddha, which is now located in Bangkok. Even without that iconic statue which gives the temple its name, this is one of the most richly decorated and visually stunning temples in the country and very much a must-see for anyone visiting this part of town.
Just over a hundred kilometers outside of Phetchabun town is the Sithep Historical Park, which houses the ruins of an ancient city from the Dvaravati Era of many centuries ago. After the 11th century, the Khmer influence added to the Hindu-style temples and statues. Now, the large park is a haunting reminder of the many cultures that have been present in Thailand, and the fact that this historical site has remained for all these centuries is in itself a miracle. Certainly do not miss a chance to see this spectacular place.
