It is a charming city and a relief after two days in Chennai. The white town is relaxing, quiet with a wonderful promenade along the seafront.
More buzzing parts of Pondi offer great shopping opportunities and authentic and more modest Indian cuisine. You can escape easily and find nature in Auroville. There are nice dining places around Auroville (Mango Hill - Olive Restaurant). No beach close to the centre. The fishing village North of White town is worth a visit.
Pondicherry is a laid back town with a relaxed pace of life. The walk on the beach road is a must. No vehicles allowed on this road from evening 6=8 pm.
Nearby attractions include Pitchavaram, boating through the mangroves it a wonderful experience.
Overall good experience visiting and staying in Puducherry. 04 times visited pondicherry enjoyed a lot.
Night life can be much better if they open discos and pub in beach front.Cant roam in beach after sunset.Town is good.People friendly. Its good for 2-3 days fun and relaxation.
Its a nice small city. Its a place for relaxation. Once a french colony, still has little flavour of France.
For people who love Yoga and Meditation, this is the best place. Early morning and evening meditation at Aurobindo ashram gives inner strength and relaxation. It charges your system fully. A visit to Auroville is worth.
Pondicherry, is a rustic old town which was once governed by the french, it is rich with history. Pondicherry , is within Tamil Nadu but is under the central government care and control.
It has a far better setting, structure and control as compared to Tamil Nadu. Its a great place to visit.
small place, few attractions, need more budget hotels, city needs good cleaning and enhance night life with more resturants.
visit to boat house and island is fun.
It's a nice place to visit. Just make sure to make reservations for some of the French cuisine restaurants.
I went to 2 place they were both full.
MG Road is the main shopping street and where life can be viewed as it happens around you. Sunday street markets and side streets covered markets.
Sea front morning and evening promenading is a delight. Its noisy and busy by day but from 10pm becomes very quiet. Safe and comfortable, great street food, also recommend Sugaru on Mission Street for its brutal a/c and fantastic and cheap food. you will see temples everywhere in Tamil Nadu
Its a beautiful place with some awesome eating joints bunch of travelers. Auroville is a must visit. Its perfect for relaxation or a lazy weekend for couples.
I like the French Colony. This is the only place that gives you a glimpse to bygone culture. Very humid no breeze during summer unlike other beaches of India.
Auroville is a pleasant town. But getting there is a big deal. No Signboards.
There is a certain aura that draws you to Pondicherry. The quiet Aurobinda Ashram, the variety of goods made by the Auroville and Aurobinda Ashram organization are excellent 'value-for-money'.
The friendly people in the area. And a great blend of French and Indian culture in everything makes a visit to Pondicherry a very pleasant experience.
Pondicherry is a sea shore and the major attraction is Rocky and sandy beach. few cultural activities and few shopping options.
Quiet, Serene & relaxed place. A small city with a very distinct touch to certain parts. Beautiful weather in the month of December (provided a storm doesn't hit the city) Good bakeries & cafes.
Pondi is a lovely place an has several attractions like the Aurobindo ashram, the Auroville, the many night shopping areas and teh lovely eaches.
It is very close to Chennai and offers a great weekend getaway option. I travel to Pondy very frequently on business and pleasure.
I love the French architecture in the localities near the beach. Great food and drinks. Very friendly people too. Its a great place to relax.
Pondy is good place to spend the weekend. can spend in the beach and also in the asharamams around the place
If you have little spiritual bent then make sure to visit Matri Mandir at Auroville. Make sure to reserve a seat one day in advance and sit in meditation for almost an hour next day in the calm tranquil ambiance.
Pondicherry has a nice mixture of Western French influence and Indian culture. In enjoyed visiting the Sri Aurobindo Paper factory in the North of the town and walking along the coast in the evening (at night all traffic along the coastal promenade is prohibited).
There are many (good) restaurants in this town and also the basic ones with limited choice can offer a very nice dinner.
It is a town tucked away on the Eastern seaboard of India. Among its diverse attractions are a coastline of 32 kms, palm-fringed beaches, backwaters, fishing villages, beach resorts, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the international city of Auroville, the French boulevard town with its French heritage, and so on.
Some great food, some fine wine, and a great adventure await you here.
Pondicherry has an interesting history and even today exhibits a distinct French influence - partly encouraged and preserved by the town council - but none the less genuine for that !! However it is not France but India with all the fascination of this great country.
Pondicherry is a nice place and shows very strong cultural presence. It is a great getaway for a peaceful weekend break at the beach.
The people are friendly, and there are global cuisines available, so for sure food would not be a problem. Chunambar boat ride and the paradise beach thereof was one of the most memorable experiences for my family. It is a great way to witness the backwaters and the sea..DO remember not to visit it in hot months as the heat and the humidity become unbearable.overall a nice experience, with the heritage french colonies, the beach, the sunrise (which is a must watch), the popular JN street (for shopping). we were able to cover all the tourist places in a weekend's time..
Lazy little town; the French quarter. Nothing to shop except cheap Liquar and booze. Aurobindo Asram a must to see.
There are some nice old fashioned French Guest houses/Hotels. Food comparatively expensive.
This town is separated into 2 area. The colonial areas are very quiet you can walk around. The town area where the Botanical Garden located.
This area are the usual city with the HORNS and NOISE. Otherwise PONDICHERRY is great.
