Only 5 minutes from Happo-One Ski Resort on the hotel’s free shuttle, Double Black features indoor hot-spring baths, a Western/Japanese restaurant and free Wi-Fi throughout. The modern rooms have tatami-mat floors and an LCD TV. Rooms at Double Black Hotel mix traditional Japanese style with modern amenities and Western beds. All are heated and include a yukata robe. The en suite bathroom has a shower. A free shuttle is also offered to/from JR Hakuba Train Station and Happo Bus Terminal, a 15-minute drive away. Hakuba Museum and Ski Jump Stadium are a 10-minute drive, and the hotel has free parking. The hotel rents ski equipment and has a tune-up/storage room. A games room with a Playstation is available, and babysitting services are on offer. The hot-spring baths can be reserved for private use during certain hours. A hot/cold breakfast is served and illy espresso coffee is available for purchase, and dinner can also be eaten at the hotel’s restaurant. The bar stocks a range of imported wines, local and imported beers, a wide range of spirits and sake. The bar has a daily happy hour where the bartender can serve special cocktails.

Helpful and friendly staff! Lovely homely lodge close to the main centre of Happo One.”

Really friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the different mountain areas and also places to eat and transport options! They also provided a shuttle service when you needed to and from the lifts and local bus terminal and at night if you needed to restaurants. The rooms were clean and spacious with plenty of storage, comfy beds and good shower! Breakfast in the morning was great - and the pizzas on pizza night (wednesdays) was ace. Great warm boot room for drying gear! Free laundry machines too. Short walk to nice restaurants and bars!
The heater in the room could be a little better.

Good natured, friendly and obliging staff. Mark also assisted regarding baggage service and getting to/ from the lodge before we even arrived. Much appreciated. We also enjoyed the onsen everyday after skiing. Enjoyed a nice coffee each morning. Being able to leave ski equipment in drying room for central sports to pick up. Frequent drop offs here and there to various bus stops, restaurants etc
All good. If being picky quite tight for 3 people in triple room. Also, Didn’t like paying extra daily for coffee. I didn’t eat a hot breakfast so an ‘included coffee’ would have been nice. However I would prefer to pay my 300 yen for a good coffee ( best I had in 2 weeks in Japan) than not having it at all!

Best place to stay in Hakuba”

Staff were amazing, loved the onsite onsen. Food in the restaurant was really good and the bar was a great place to hang out with a good wine list. The free shuttle bus to the slopes and anywhere you wanted to go in the local area was fantastic. Free laundry was also a real bonus. The reception staff were super helpful when it came to organising reservations and tours, they also gave me excellent tips and advice regarding local matters. The included breakfast each morning was really good and so was the coffee. My only recommendation is that they start recommending that their guest hire equipment from Rhythm Snow Sports instead of Central Snow sports as the staff and knowledge of the employees at Rhythm is much better and the equipment is in better condition also. Overall Double Black is an excellent place to stay and I will be back. Thanks to the staff for being so helpful!!!!!

Very social hotel in a great location”

Very central location within easy walking distance to Hakuba village but also upper Wadana area where there is a lot of restaurants/bars. Nice big chaise lounge in the main area is great for relaxing and meeting other holiday makers (very popular), staff very friendly and willing to help with all requests, shuttle service extremely convenient, large lodging with plenty of rooms, very clean, big breakfast/dining area with western hot/cold food selections, large drying room for all ski equipment/clothing
For the money, room facilities could be a bit better, room is bed, wardrobe, heating and ensuite. Tiny basin in ensuite, no room for any toiletries, no soap holder in shower. Washing machines downstairs have japanese instructions (english stickers would help), smaller kids would need iPads to keep them entertained when not skiing, lounge area could do with another lounge or two
