Family hotels & resorts in Khao Phanom

"Our stay here was incredible. We arranged beforehand for airport pickup through the owner, Khun Son, who sent his nephew. Transfers to and from airport are 500 baht. We rented one of Son's motorbikes for 200 baht each day, and this made all the difference. The resort is set back in the mountains and cliffs of Krabi, about a 40 minute motorbike ride from Ao Nang and the Phanom Bencha Nat'l Park (in different directions). We were able to see the beach during the day, but retreat to the peaceful mountains at night. Son learned to cook from his mom and in turn taught his wife and the rest of the family who work there. Best Thai food I have had, and I live in Thailand! Massaman was to die for! They have an extensive menu and it's all reasonably priced, the most expensive items being the curries priced around 120 baht. As we were leaving we hugged Son and his wife, who told us "you have mom in Thailand". The atmosphere is incredibly relaxed, we honestly felt like family from the moment we set foot on the place. The bungalow had everything we needed, and the Thai mattress, although hard, was not as bad as I thought it would be. There are visitors at night on the roof, rats I think and geckos, and they can be a bit noisy, especially in bunglaow 4, but in a way they added to the experience (rats weren't ever inside the bungalow, just on the roof). It's definitely worth the inexpensive price. We've been home for a day and are having major withdrawals from the food and atmosphere. If you're up for an adventure, like the beach but love the mountains, this is the place for you. I would go back in a heartbeat and hope we have another chance to come back. "
