Couldn’t have imagined anything better Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful nature and an absolutely amazing host! My friend and I had booked a night at Freedom home, and were planning to go to lonely beach for the rest of our stay. After only one night and a few interactions with the host, Tommy, we cancelled our hotel in lonely beech and all our plans, to stay at freedom home. Tommy was so welcoming, and made us feel like we were a part of the little community in Klong Kloi, making delicious BBQ’s several nights, showed us the most amazing hidden spots on the island, and introduced us to his friends, locals like himself. Never in my life have I met a person so down to earth, thoughtful and helpful. Very generous man with an interest in getting to know us, and making our trip to Koh Chang the best imaginable. The room we stayed in was big with a big private bathroom as well as a terrace. It had a fan and a mosquito net, and that was all we needed, as we spent the days exploring the island and spending time in the super cozy common area. If there is anything you want, or you have a problem with anything, Tommy will go out of his way to fix it for you. He’s super chill but very service minded. If you’re looking for a place to stay, and you appreciate beautiful nature and a friendly atmosphere, this is the place for you. I would go back in a heart beat!

If you are looking for calm place, nature and far away from crowded, I really recommended Freedom Home. My plan only stayed a night but the end I stayed here for 3 nights. The owner Mamiew and Tomy are so friendly and warm. Really recommended this place, so relax and calm.

I loved that the Tommy, one owner, came and picked me up with my bag at the bridge...it was so nice as I have a knee injury. I loved my little room and the shelves and that Tommy put in a line so I could put a sarong up to block the porch light from beaming in..that was very sweet. Tommy checked in with me from time to time. Though we rarely saw each other. I loved sitting in the bar in the daytime...it was quiet and beautiful...has sweet hammocks and the pond is right there..so peaceful there! The woman who cleaned...she was awesome..if I pointed out the soap was empty she would refill it right away...this is important with the virus going around these days! I really loved the place...especially in the day time. The wifi doesnt always reach the rooms...but that is ok..it works in the bar.

What I didnt like was how the female owner was rude to me. I walked into the kitchen my first day there, not knowing it was a private kitchen and she said very rudely "this is a private kitchen". When other guests were in there. Her partner didnt say anything either. I apologized and asked if I could store some drinks in the refrigerator. Though she said yes it left me not wanting to go back for me things...I feared her rudeness again. I am used to owners being kind at guesthouses. She never was kind to me. If she saw me she'd only talk business with me...though I saw her talking with some guests. Though other guests commented on her standoff-ishness with them too. Maybe it is because I wasnt a drinker like all the rest. I didnt get drunk with them at night. The music was a but loud some nights in the bar. I had smokers on one side of my room..so I couldn't breathe and they would talk until 12:30 or 1am. And I had giggling girls on the other side of my bungalow until all hours of the morning...1 or 2am.

At Freedom Home you get a basic bungalow with a bed, bathroom and a fan - and that's all you need. There might be a frog living near your toilet. But it's ok - he's chill. There's everything you need, and nothing that you don't - if you're on Ko Chang to stay in an air-conditioned hotel room and watch TV, you're in the wrong place. The main draw of Freedom Home is the central bar/seating area, and its proprietor Tommy. Grab the drinks you need from the fridge, put it on your tab slip, and hang out until the group decides to go somewhere else. Sometimes Tommy will organize events like a BBQ or a boat trip, but otherwise you come and go as you please, and mix with the other travellers there. If you're expecting table service and a Full English breakfast every morning you won't find it here - but you can get that anywhere. That's not why you stay here. Freedom Home has the things that are hardest to find on an island holiday in Thailand. The atmosphere was pitch-perfect, but it's the group of people who happen to be sharing the space with you that make it. Sometimes there was a vibe, sometimes you have to bring one. Some mean person gave Tommy a bad review because there were bugs in the room. It's the jungle dude. They were there first!

Very nice place with good vibes. Basic facilities and room (was a bit dark but okay for me), very clean and perfect for this price. The owner is a nice guy who puts a lot of effort in making guests feel at home. Had a bit of a miscommunication about my transportation, but that was settled fairly in the end. Would really recommend this place!

Quiet and relaxed place surrounded by trees. We stayed for 6 nights and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

We found two cockroach 2 followed nights and a antz’s nest (photo). We had a free upgrade.We were gratefull. One saturday night the owner were having a party without his girlsfriend after a barbacue with some guests. Our room was next to the bar and we were listening everything. We couldt sleep at all.At 5:00am My boyfriend went to ask (in a good way) if they could turn down the volume. Tommy, the owner was there with some girls. he was drunk and told him that our room was noisy,and some nights were parties like these, he said that he was not going to stop the party in a unpolite way so the music and the noise keep until 7:00am. (Photo)After this he never say hello to us. I was scared of him,because he was always drinking beer in the morning and during the day. We sent a formal complaining to booking.com .He never say sorry to us. Other guests talk about this in their reviews. These days the energy of the place was awful. We stayed because we had already paid. The place always was dirty. too much work for only one woman cleaner. The owners never cleaned their dishes and pans. In 15 days they never clean our room,nor the bin or toilette so we had to do it. (Photos). So we understood why we saw 2 cockroach 2 days....

It is in the jungle, and close to the beach,but you need a scooter to go to another places

The first Night we found a cockroach (photo)in the room and a huge antz’s nest. The owner cleaned it and told that we where in the jungle. The second night there were a cockroach (photo)again in our room. They offered us an upgrade for free. Despite the kitchen was included in the photos and contract of booking, The owners closed it with a chain (with all our and guest’s food) diferent days because somebody dindt clean their dishes one night. The owners acused an homosexual couple forcing them to leave the place in a very bad way. After they left, they opened the kitchen again and it was disgusting that the owners never cleaned their dishes (photos) the rest of nights!! Every morning, when we prepared our breakfast we found the kitchen full of dirty dishes and rest of food (photos). Also in the morning 9:00h the main common area was full of bottles and cigarretes from the past night that the owner always was in. so they wanted everything clean when they absolutly weren’t the example for their guests. We keep staying because we had already paid.

Loved the owners and their way of running the beautiful, peaceful place! Hope to come back again

Such an incredible place to stay! The bungalows are beautiful and the whole place supports a friendly social vibe, the owners are so helpful and are great fun! They even cooked us dinner a few nights! The location is a few minutes walk to the beach and lots of restaurants and bars

Alot! The hosts were both fantastic and really friendly, they rented us a moped for an excellent price and the moped was not some piece of junk but a good little bike to get around the step island as we explored all over during our stay. The area is amazing, it still has the island feel and isn't overly touristy at all like all the other parts of the island, set down a sand/dirt track from the main road there are tons of great places for food and drink in the village you could literally eat all around there and not have to leave!

Not their fault but we stayed 5 nights and during our stay we had 2 sets of guests next to us talk loudly and take phone calls at like 3am and because there is zero soundproofing it was like being in bed with them! Also wasnt aware that there was no hot water in our bathroom before we arrived which isn't a huge deal as weve had the same on previous islands but just nice to know before we get there!

The beach just a few minutes walk from the bungalow. Lots of restaurants and bars in the surroundings. The "jungle feel" to the location, and of course the "jungle gym"! Like Tommy says "people make the holidays" and at Freedom Home I met plenty of people who really made my stay special, including Tommy and Mae Myao themselves! Freedom Home has got a smooth yet powerful vibe to it that makes it a very enjoyable place to stay...guaranteed to make you wanna extend and put off that goodbye moment as long as possible! :)

The first day it was a bit hard for me to get used to the shared bathroom, but that's because I'd always chosen otherwise before. A few small improvements can surely make it easier for someone like me, but the place is only at its second season so there's a lot of potential in it and Tommy is highly dedicated to it. Keep it up!

We had a very special time at freedom home. Tommy and Mameaw were fantastic hosts, we felt so at home and they made sure we had a lot of fun there. The bar is great for socialising but there are also lovely quiet spaces for reading, meditating etc. It’s so magic to sleep with the sounds of the jungle and being very close to the beach. We can’t thank you enough for making our time in Koh Chang unforgettable ❤️

We loooooooved freedom home! The place has great vibes and it’s not only the chill decoration but also the most amazing staff! Tommy and Mameaw treated us like good friends from the very beginning and it was so nice to hang out with them! They even arranged a great barbecue party and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Nothing negative! If you like to go to sleep early and wish for a quiet room, you might want to ask for other bungalows than 1-3. There’s a bar so there might be some music in the evening (however, the bar is a great place to meet other travelers!). We didn’t really mind and the music was not too loud. :)

Tommy and all staff (including the adorable loving dog Sabai) were amazing people. Perhaps due to that, this hostel just seemed to attract other people of the same awesome breed -- Everyone was interesting, kind, trusting, and just generally a great person. Delicious BBQ. Surrounded by lovely nature. Best of luck in your next adventure -- Live in the moment! :)

Not even a complaint, but be aware that the bathrooms do not have soap in them. Just buy it yourself, no big deal. Slightly expensive but understandable given that the property is gorgeously unique, and has more character than any hostel I've ever seen; clearly Tommy and co. put it together lovingly by hand. Delicous BBQ.
