Fantastic cozy place for an affordable authentic experience”

This place cannot be compared to a normal hotel: in Hakone you can hardly expect a place to be conveniently located near subway stations with many combinis, to have nice big beds with plenty of disposable toiletries. However, for its price point it's outdone itself. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly, and the room spacious and comfortable. It's a minute away from the bus stop and near museums as well. This even comes with a private onsen that each room can reserve. The only downside is that you have to eat out, but with good restaurants nearby it's not an issue. It can be difficult to be here in winter because it gets dark fast and you're in the mountains so locating a restaurant or finding this place might not be the easiest, but overall it was amazing. I'll definitely return when I come to Hakone again!

        Comfortable”

        1. Good location Very good location, near the bus stop, about 5 minutes walk. 2. Staff service is very good, the hotel has recommendations from nearby restaurants, and will also tell you about certain activities. 3. For each room, you can arrange a hot spring for half an hour every day. In addition, you can arrange half an hour to go to the hot spring in the morning time. The hot spring is very comfortable and room is bright. If you like to enjoy outside, you can also book a fee for the outside Hot Springs . 4. We spent the most comfortable trip in Japan here.

        I Will Return”

I met a group of friends here for a quick hiking trip. One of the ladies in our group had stayed here before, so I knew it would be a good place. The family who owns, and runs, the guesthouse are incredible. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The onsen is great, especially after some hiking. Pay the little extra for the outdoor onsen, too. It's well worth it.

I love this place and keep returning to it. It's family run and they take great care of their guests. The baths and other facilities are perfect. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the Kintoki trailhead. There are some great restaurants and a Lawson's close by too.

        Great value stay!!”

I chose this place because I wear tattoos (japanese manners are very restrictive with them) and i could use the hot spring water without problems. The guesthouse is very comfortable (big spaced rooms and really clean). The owners are extremely nice and helpful (good english skills!!). Me and my partner could have a very relaxing and pleasant stay and we hope to go back in a near future. Thanks!!

        Excellent”

It's just a couple of minutes walk from the bus stop. They can contact restaurants who provide free shuttle service. The road is not well-lit and some areas don't have enough sidewalk so the shuttle service comes handy. There's Lawson and Family Mart in opposite directions (prolly 5-10mins walk), they're on the next bus stops. A Hakone pass will be very worth it. I didn't expect a shared t&b but it's very clean and well maintained. The room is spacious and the futon is very comfortable. Breakfast is okay. For future guests, you might not find anyone around at the reception but you'll see instructions by their telephone to dial a number so they can come meet you.

        Great location ”

Near to the bus stop where the Hakone Free Pass buses stop. that is very important. Bed is surprisingly comfy. We enjoyed the indoor private onsen. However I wish there is hot water available at the basin during the cold winter morning for washing up. At times room can be quite cold too.. Overall a great experience staying in a Ryokan.

Good deal for a guesthouse with onsen”

It’s a good deal if you want a simple ryokan with mineral hot spring bath & staff that can provide excellent tourist information

        A matter of perspective”

I think if you are expecting a hostel, then this will be a fantastic experience. The location is as good as it gets in Hakone, with a bus stop right outside and restaurants in walking distance. The onsen is great but confusing. The indoor is only open in the afternoon & evening and you are assigned a time, which may be late or while you are out. In the a.m. you can use the baths to shower, which is fortunate because there seemed to be only one other shower. The outdoor onsen was worth the small extra fee & it was fun to be able to do it as a couple. The rest was a bit dicey. Musty rooms & mildew smell, very thin walls and rooms are off a main hall with people tromping through. Very worn towels. One small shared bathroom per gender. If you want a hostel experience and are comfortable paying this much for that, then go for it. For me, it was not a good value given the other options in this price range. I might feel differently if traveling with friends & had more people to a room.

Great little private place with basic room”

This is more like a homestay. The place is not a professional hotel, but kind of run by a family and has very basic facilities. Spa is basic and the rooms are very basic. More of a backpacker place. But, for those who like simplicity, its great.

Super helpful English-speaking staff who took care of us like relatives. ”

We enjoyed the Fuji-Hakone Guest House. The staff was pleasant even though the facilities were simple. I enjoyed staying here, even knowing the facilities didn’t have central heating and there were community bathrooms and kitchen areas. It was a great experience. The beds were clean and the staff was very helpful. I loved their proposed schedule of travel for the day. They helped us plan the timing of our touring and have enough time to visit the Yunesson. When leaving, I asked the inn keeper that we wanted to take a direct bus to Shinjuku station and she even called for a reservation. No need to go back to Odowara! The luxury bus picked us up from the bus stop right outside their Fuji-hakone Guest house and no fuss with luggage on the community bus only 1900 Yen. We had friends who stayed here 25 years ago and based on her suggestion, we returned on her behalf. No regrets! We met some English speaking visitors who mentioned they stayed up the road for $1200 per night.

Great accomodation, nice location and accomodating staff”

We had a wonderful stay at fuji-hakone guesthouse. Location: near and walking distance from senkyoro-mae bus stop via hakone tozan bus T from Odawara or hakone-yumoto. Bus has english and tourist friendly even if you have big luggages. There's restaurant and convenience store near the place as well. Staff: owner can converse in good english. Upon check in she's kind enough to ask us where we want to go and guide us how and directions. Answer all questions perfectly Price: for the price and considering it's a ryokan the price is really affordable Place and room: the room for couple or 2 is big enough for japan standard. We had really warm and nice bed to sleep after a whole day of walk. Heater helps a lot. Wifi is also 👍. Fast and always available all over the place. You can also buy food outside and eat them in the dinning area or in the room. Onsen: we love the onsen of the guesthose, have indoor and outdoor onsen. The time and schedule is well organized for everyone.

        LOVED THIS PLACE”

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Fuji-Hakone. There's a living room where guests are allowed to lounge, and they provide free green tea (which is very comforting in the winter time). Everyone is allocated a half hour time slot to use the hot springs and the entire guest house is completely Japanese style - tatami mats and futons. It was very pleasant. Thank you Fuji-Hakone for also writing us such a cute handwritten postcard as we left, congratulating us on our engagement. We will always keep it. Love, Terry & E-van.

        Best experience ever”

I absolutely loved everything about the Guest House - perfect location, all the workers are very friendly and ready to help anytime. Also, it's very convenient to have onsen right in the guest house, so you can go straight to your room after it. The futon was very comfortable. I miss my Nikko room!!!!!!!!!! Would recommend Fuji-Hakone Guest House to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Place to get a true feel for Japan”

Authentic Japanese style furnishings, Onsen (hot springs) on site, close to bus stop

This stay at the Fuji-Hakone Guest House was one of the highlight of my trip. I suggest getting bus information and route directions prior to leaving for your trip to minimize transit time. The staff speaks several languages including English. They were also very helpful in helping me plan my activities while in the Hakone area. If visiting this area in the future I would definitely plan on stay here again. Very restful, peaceful, and delightful.
