Welcoming traditional Japanese experience”
We had a wonderful one night stay at the Nakamura ryokan. This is a traditional, small family owned establishment set in the lush Hakone forest. We had the dinner/breakfast package, which I would definitely recommend as it was delicious and excellent value. The owners were very welcoming, and speak some English. The two onsens were very nice, and the larger one has beautiful views through the bamboo. The tatami rooms are large (ours had a separate dressing room and small seating area), and the shared toilets and sink were just outside the room. The hotel is only a 5-10 min walk from the nearest bus stop, although (like much of Hakone) up a very steep hill. Alternatively, a taxi from Gora train station is ~1800 yen. Hakoneyumoto station also has a luggage delivery service (800 yen) - leave your bag before midday and head out sightseeing, and your bag will be at your hotel by mid-afternoon.

Business traveller experiencing local Japan”
I had a weekend between working weeks to spend in Japan and see the sights. The Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura was a Ryokan I found online that had favorable reviews. The staff was very attentive to making my stay comfortable even though they spoke very little English. The hotel is tidy though aged and in need of a good dusting. The Onsen was great and was very soothing after a day walking around. Everything is in Japanese so the hotel is somewhat hard to find but asking at the Lawson Station convenience store was beneficial to getting there. I would consider them again for future stays in the area though I may be persuaded to take a look at other options as well.

Lovely Quaint OnSen Hotel - Tranquil and Homely”
This was a very tranquil and nice resort that caters to lower density hotel. The hostess, Kami-San was very gracious and tried to ensure that we had a good stay. I was the lone vegan in my group, comprising of my family members, and KamiSan goes out of her way to accommodate me! Am indeed very grateful for that and we all had a most delicious meals - breakfast and dinner whilst there. We strongly recommend the Hotel Nakamura.

I'd say more but out of space”
Value: a bit pricey. Breakfast was expensive but we were served crab and a full fish. It was delicious. Best part was their onsen. Its normally separate, but if there is no one there they'll let you go together. I wish they had a private one. There is a big really nice onsen, and a small not so nice. They rotate. The big one is definitely nicer. The small one super hot. I couldn't stay in it long. If you are sensitive to heat try the large one and go in at the opposite side where the water is pouring. Remote: It is remote. Family Mart is walkable and open 24 hours. If you don't get breakfast at the hotel, nothing is open except Family Mart. We didn't try for dinner at the hotel as it was just too early. Most places in the area closes around 4 - 5 pm. There are places open late that are a short bus ride away. Bathroom is shared, not private! Also heating outside your room is poor which means walking to the restroom is cold! The front desk is not always occupied.

Awesome place,a little hidden gem”
Super nice staff, amazing private onsen available from early morning to late evening. Room had a beautiful view, felt like I was lost in the woods in the good sense. I have never encountered anyone in the onsen so felt like I was owning the whole place myself. Only thing to mention is the entrance of the hotel is about a 10 mins walk uphill from the busstop so I struggled a bit with my luggage. However as soon as staff sees you they jump to help with carrying your bags. Would definitely recommend this place, perfect connection to most sightseeing spots.

A great experience in Hakone”
Loved the onsen, and the hospitality offered by the staff. The baths for men and women change daily in the morning, so you get to enjoy both even if you're staying only for the night. The atmosphere after the sun set was magical, even if that meant a standoff with an 8-legged creature lured in by the warmth of the room. The futon was extra comfortable. Super-clean guest yukata. It's a bit far to walk (on your own, after dark, if you're a chicken, like I am) to get dinner, so I'd recommend booking it at the hotel. The breakfast was positively massive and delicious and prepared with care. Arrived on Sunday and stayed until Monday, which was why the place was positively empty. It might look a bit run down, but you can tell the staff still care and keep it clean and guest-friendly. A great experience!

Fantastic authentic onsen it a picture perfect setting - but shame about the rest of the hotel”
I feel like I have to defend this hotel a little bit given some of the other reviews, although I will admit that the price was rather too high for what was on offer. First off, the onsen is incredible, it's the real deal for the "purists" out there. The water is incredibly hot, has a milky consistency with a sulphurous smell and genuinely feels like you're sitting in a volcano, with a perfect view out on a little bamboo forest, plus a nice sitting area afterwards for you to recover in. Some complained that the onsen was dirty, but if you have proper untreated volcano water you get a variety of miscellaneous deposits on the walls and floors it just happens. However, given the state of the rest of the hotel, yes ok it could have done with a little clean up. The rooms were fine, basic but fine and comfortable. Everything felt a little dated but a lot of Japanese hotels seem to look like that. Breakfast was a whopping ¥2300 per person, but the restaurant area was very nice indeed.

Nice Hotel”
My fiance and I stayed at this hotel when we first come to Hakone and we really like it. The owner is really nice and nice. The hotel is kind of the path so it hard to find and the walk up is uphill. It a nice hotel to get away from the city. Recommend to stay.

Good”
This place should be better but we arrived after the typhoon. The main facility that we want which is onsen, was broke that time. They offered us another onsen near the hotel but we should pay for it. I think it will be better if the hotel offer that as their responsibility due to their broken facility. Beside, Staff are very polite and helpful. Overall my stay here is good.

Lovely hotel”
The hotel locates in the middle of a hill so if you walk from bus station (650m) with heavy luggage you will feel very tired. The hotel looks so lovely and boutique, even better than in the photo. Not so difficult to find if you are connected to the Google Map and in the daytime otherwise you must be confused of the location. Staff are nice and friendly. The facilities are reasonable compared to room price. The on-sen bath is pretty small, enough for about 5 people

Good Location. Cheap for the area.”
Good location near many bus routes, a Lawson station, and plenty of interesting museums. You can walk uphill from Senkyoro-mae, or downhill from Motoyu-onsen, each about 5 minutes. I don't recommend walking on the winding at night without a flashlight. Watch your step. The ryokan was standard, and visibly old from the inside and out. The men's bathroom in the "older" half smelled bad so i used the one between the hot baths. I was disappointed that they keep the bath water at the natural "volcanic" 60 degrees C instead of the usual 42C. The baths are available 24 hours, but sadly, it was just too hot to enjoy. Anyway, the rates are cheap for ryokan in the area, the location is good. Our morning room views were fantastic. The bedding is all very clean, and being surround by nothing but clean air, greenery and crickets is a welcome escape from the gritty hustle and bustle of Tokyo. I recommend it if you want to step up from the youth hostels. You don't have to buy breakfast or dinner at the ryokan. Their curfew was 8 which seems early, but all the museums close by 5, and you can finish dinner at the nearby strip of restaurants by 7. The Irori Teahouse had particularly good and reasonably priced food. All in all, my mother loved everything about the place; and my step-father enjoyed the scalding hot bath. I think things could have been a little better here and there, but overall I had a positive experience and the elderly staff try to keep things as clean as possible.... also sitting in their free massage chair for an hour each night was great! We also took a lot of pictures.

Great, quiet place in the forest”
Excellent place if you want to relax. Large spa and onsen. Traditional Japanese breakfast, cooked fresh. Nice views and big room. Highly recommended ryokan with ample free parking.

Public onsen, warm enough room, perfect dinner and breakfast, good for driver”
Staff is so nice! Nice view with public onsen, can try two different onsens everyday! But for the consideration of location, it is much more suitable for driver. Very well-prepared jap style dinner and breakfast! Good jap traditional style room!

relaxing quiet stay in traditional Japanese Inn”
Note that from the nearest bus stop ("Senkyoro-mae" on Togendai line from the Hakone-Yumoto train station), there are no English language directions to the hotel. you have to walk up the hill (behind the Lawsons convenience store) about 5 mins, it's the second hotel on the right side of the road. The owners speak limited English, but were very friendly and accommodating. Stay there was pleasant and quiet. The hot spring rooms are separated into male and female but you can request private time during non busy periods.

Very nice people. Good food, very yummy. ”
The hotel is located near the Little Prince museum. It is 5-6 minutes walk from the Hakone Tozan Bus stop. Which is convenient enough. I most appreciate the breakfast, surprising good.

Good to have a sleep at but not really to hang out”
It was fine and we knew what to expect. We came here for a good night sleep after a good tour of Hakone so this place was perfect to do that. We went out for dinner and there were few options down the road from the hotel. It is simple, easy, nice busy tenants. It is on the old side and the Onzen can be a small size. They have 2 onzen pools (1 big and 1 small) for the men and women, which they alternate. On the evening the men get the bigger onzen and in the morning for the women. This place have seen better days but for 1 day out of Tokyo, touring around the place, you will like that place for a nice onzen dip, and a good night sleep!

Lovely hotel and pleasant staff”
After one hour of bus from Odawara station, I leave bus after museum of Petit prince bus top. I can see a supermarket and take small road behind it. After 200 meter a small street climbing to hotel. Entry after the car park. Not easy to find because all words are japaneese. I leave my shoes at entry and an old woman make my checkin. She show me the room and commun bathroom where is located Onzen. There are 2 Onzen then check if male/female at entry because they switch during the day. No dinner and hotel is closed at 8 P.M. Food are available in supermarket. Breakfast at 8 a.m. Don't be late because it is cooked for this time Very good place to take rest and visit this place

Excellent”
It was the first time for our young kids to stay in a traditional Japanese Hotel. While my husband and I can speak Japanese, the children can't, but that didn't stop them from being very kind and accommodating to our sometimes noisy twins! I was apprehensive at first for the kids but it turned out the kids enjoyed it the most! I will definitely come back here with my family. If you are traveling with kids I'd definitely recommend this place! ps. the road going to the hotel from the bust stop is a short walk but a hard uphill one especially with luggage! There are rarely taxis so take note of that and maybe get off two stations before so you can grab a taxi easier.

Location's far but lovely staff”
The hotel is up in the mountain. We had to take a bus from Odawara Station for almost an hour to get there. Remember to either print out your Agoda receipt or mention Agoda to the staff. The old lady there, who speaks a bit of English, was really surprised to see us when we arrived. We thought our booking didn't go through, but after a bit of sorting through, she was very friendly. She gave us great tips on things to do in the area. The onsen was fabulous. They switch the male and female bath so you get to experience both baths. We wouldn't stay there again just because we didn't have a car. If you drive, it would be a great place to stay.
