Exceptional”

Unique japanese bath experience and beautiful grounds, waterfalls around hotel. Outside shoes are removed and put in locker. Hotel is very clean through out. Bath robes are given to go to the bath or stroll around the hotel or go to the buffet breakfast and dinner which was wonderful. To get to hotel from Yumoto station requires to take the A bus or taxi. Be aware if you have luggages may be tricky if you have to stand or get off from the small bus as it drops off passengers at different hotels along the route. Is a 15 min slightly uphill walk to hotel.

Awesome”

The place is awesome, will definitely be back, the breakfast was goooooood! A solo traveller but was given a twin room. They speak English. First time at onsen. The experience was great. The bus is easy to find. Look for bus A . 100 yen is totally worthy. Don't need to carry cash around. All payment charge to room card, payment to be settled when check out. Note: some English translation are werid.

Overall it was a good stay”

We are a family of three plus a friend for this trip. We stayed for two nights in a Japanese style room with open-air bath and had subscribed meals for both breakfast and dinner. The staff was courteous but we had difficulties communicating with them in English. Both the public bath and the private bath in the room are very clean and comfortable. The staff even helped my daughter dress her yukata. The buffet restaurant offers a wide selection of well-prepared food and dishes. We had dinners in a private box for both nights. For some reason, we were only served with appetizers on the first night and was informed by one staff to grab our own food from the buffet area. It was until the second night when we were served with both appetizers and special dishes, we realized that they forgot to serve us the night before. We liked the buffet by all means but still felt disappointed with this under-served experience.

Top floor open air hot spring and beautiful garden are the main points of theb hotel”

Believe me you will attract by the garden, so beautiful pond and waterfall. The open air hot spring must try, Men 7 floor and women 6 floor. If you uncomfortable with the public hot spring can book the private family room at just 2000 Yen (without tax, half price between 12am to 7 am). Walking distance from Yumoto station but not encourage with luggage because little big far. You can take the bus A from Yumoto station (just until 6 pm). The overall experienced of stay was great and wonderful. Highly recommend and wish to come back again.

The onsen is great”

Nice hotel; not as unique as an small onsen hotel, but would definitely recommend this hotel. The room is spacious and clean and we had a view to the river in front of the hotel (very peaceful). The onsen is open all night, so plenty of time to go for a hike, eat dinner and soak in the onsen after. They provide everything like soap, face wash and combs. There are also free bathrobes. The station (Hakone-Yumoto) is only 1.1 km away and there are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets to get something to eat, if you opt for the room without meals.

Worth it”

The hotel makes for a very relaxing stay, and the in-room baths are wonderful. The onsen upstairs is beautiful (even the men's bath!) But the bathroom therein smells horrific and has signs of mold. However, this was a very small problem as this room is avoidable and shared. The garden space is an activity worth doing in of itself, and the waterfalls are beautiful. Fantastic stay, would recommend. Just use your own bathroom.

- the shower room wasn't cleaned thoroughly as public hair was found. - the water control of the onsen bath has no English instructions so hard to use properly. - Other than that this onsen hotel is ok so far: * Staff is great and helpful. * Breaskfast and Dinner buffet are decent and ok. * ambient is relaxing, the outdoor park is nice. * Convenience is ok, not too far from the train station, a relaxing walk to the station. The size of the room we stayed is ok for a small family. * Bedding is comfortable. * Lots of snacks provided in the room. * sound proof is ok, quite in the room.

Small rooms and poor buffet”

We booked a luxury room with indoor hot spring but the room is really small and the buffet style dinner and breakfast are of poor quality. The surrounding area and the hotel entrance is nice and that's about the only compliment I can provide for this hotel. As \if I can't stress enough, the buffet style meals really need to up its game. Very disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Not worth the price”

The hotel looks nice with a small pond, but location is bad with 20 mins walking distance from station, or you need to pay for hotel shuttle. Service is bad either, staff speaks poor english and could not explain why they forced me to pay hot spring tax even I was not allowed to use hot spring as I have tattoo. This is the first hot spring hotel I have been to in the past ten years in japan that still hold this outdated & unfair rule.

Not worth to stay ”

I booked 2 rooms for my family of 2 adults and 2 kids. I emailed to hotel for connecting room and hotel emailed replied yes they will arrange for me but when we arrived, the staff said hotel is full so can't give me connecting room. I accepted and went for buffet dinner (food was cheap quality). When we return to our room, there are 2 die cockroaches in the bedroom. I called the hotel staff to my room and they immediately change my room to connecting room. This is really bad. I wouldn't come back again or recommend anyone to this hotel. This is really low standard but high price to pay.

Perfection”

From the Hakone-Yumoto Station, you can use the overpass bridge to cross the street. There is a Tourist information office there. In front of the tourist info office is a bus stop for min-bus A, B & C. Bus A is going to Hotel Tenseien and will cost 100 yen per person (as of May 2016) and will take about 15 min., mostly because of the traffic because the streets are very narrow. We walked one night from Hakone-Yumoto to Hotel and it took us about 20 min. I think that was around 9:30pm and there’s no more Bus A… The bus stop for Bus A going back to Hakone-Yumoto station is just outside the hotel. Very convenient. Before the main hotel entrance is a bridge and a river…very cool! The Hotel is amazing. It’s very clean. Shoes are not allowed anywhere inside the hotel. There are shoe cabinets by the entrance and you must keep the keys. The room is big for japan standard. The toilet is a bit small. Our room window is facing the waterfalls…nice view. They provide Yukata (robe) for everyone so you get that Japanese feeling. They have slippers for everyone to use whenever you want to explore the garden, the shrine, around the pond and if you want to enjoy the beauty of the 2 waterfalls…..again, amazing view. They have a 24-hour shop. They have I think 24-hour Onsen on the rooftop which is the best! The amenities are great! They have steam-bath, Sauna, indoor and outdoor onsen….yes on the roof top…under the sky…under the stars.I want to go back now. They have relaxation room and they provide massage services. This place is totally the most relaxing hotel I have ever been. The Food is good. The breakfast selection is huge. We had ala-carte dinner and the sushi and soba noodles are good. The service is also good. Free wifi. Staffs can speak english well.

International 5-Star Hotel Standard”

Natural Hot Mineral Springs, Large Room & Bathroom, Japanese Cultural Experience

An absolutely fantastic hotel – the best we stayed at in Japan! The room rate is a bit higher than surrounding hotels, but it is completely worth it, as the room was the largest we saw in Japan, with a well-appointed bathroom with everything you could need (shampoo, conditioner skin lotion, toothbrushes & shaving razors, etc). The main feature of this hotel is the array of ‘onsen’ (natural hot mineral spring baths) & 2 saunas on the hotel roof, including 5 ‘rotenburo’ (outdoor baths with different Japanese-themes) with beautiful views of the mountains during the day, & starry skies during the night. You could spend the whole day & night here. We felt completely relaxed & refreshed during & after our stay. They have a wonderful ‘Eat-All-You-Can’ breakfast buffet at ¥1,500 & an ‘Eat-All-You-Can’ international dinner buffet at ¥6,000 – which is great value & very reasonable for Japan. We actually had the dinner buffet (fantastic!), & had to get a refund on our breakfast buffet coupons the next morning because we were still full after dinner last night. We were totally satisfied with Tenseien Hotel, & will definitely stay there again, the next time we are in Hakone!!
