Fantastic Experience!”

Although we spent more money than we normally do on accommodation, the experience was so unique it was worth it! The building is historic--it looked and felt far more like a traditional ryokan than many of the other more hotel-like buildings we saw in Hakone. And it was absolutely lovely! With the exception of one small strip of worn carpet in a common area (that could easily be replaced), the ryokan was scrupulously clean, the staff was extremely kind and helpful, our room was enormous and comfortable, the food was delicious and plentiful (and served by a very sweet woman who made a concerted effort to explain what we were eating in our room), the private onsen (indoor baths) and public same-sex rotemburo (outdoor bath) were wonderful and the location of this ryokan could not be better. We took the shuttle for 100 yen from the train station just so we could find it easily, but after that we walked to and from the ryokan to the center of town because it only took five minutes to do so. As with most hotels/ryokans in Japan, there are tons of amenities: pajamas, yukata, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush & toothpaste, razor, facial cleanser, facial moisturizer, body lotion, etc. etc. So although there is ample space for luggage, one can really pack minimally and still have everything one needs upon arrival. I was very happy that we chose to stay in Hakoneyumoto Onsen Yaeikan and would recommend it unequivocally to anyone wanting a real ryokan/onsen experience.

Highly recommend for a traditional ryokan experience! Photos don’t do it justice.”

We booked two of the private onsen rooms - one for my parents and one for my husband and I - since we weren’t sure we could brave the public onsen. We can’t rave enough about this place. Great traditional ryokan experience, amazing dinner and breakfast, relaxing onsens, the sweetest staff, and conveniently close to the Hakone Yumoto station. Each room’s layout was completely different and uniquely beautiful. The photos really don’t do it justice. Unfortunately since the lighting is dim on purpose, I couldn’t even capture any good photos or videos. We felt like each of our hotel rooms was a whole house with all of the space. Our rooms were made up of several separate spaces - a living room with a table/4 chairs and balcony, a separate bedroom, closet, toilet room, vanity/sink room, partially outdoor onsen bath and separate shower... we were thrilled! The food... OMG! Just amazing. Rounds and rounds of courses for both the dinner and breakfast. Everything was so thoughtfully and intentionally created, and although tiny at first, we all got so stuffed we couldn’t finish everything. And my husband and dad eat a ton... We ended up checking out all of the public onsens - there were 2 pubic onsen rooms, each with two onsens, and also a public one that you can reserve for private use. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and could visibly see the difference in our skin and facial complexion after just a 15 min soak. The staff were also so kind and allowed us to check our luggage before check-in as well as after check-out. Our server NaiZuKi (sp?) was incredibly sweet and kind - she made our stay even better! She spoke English, Chinese and Japanese! I had read in some past reviews about the staff not speaking anything but Japanese, but we didn’t find that was the case at all. It’s a super close walk to the Hakone Yumoto station, which seems kind of far from all of the other Hakone points of interest like Lake Ashi, etc. but it’s honestly all pretty easy to get to if you g

Lovely Traditional Ryokan!”

Stayed at the Yaeikan last week for one night after a full day tour to Mt Fuji, Lake Ashi, and Hakone. Really loved to true Japanese hospitality! The moment we stepped in the main entrance there were about 4-5 ladies in traditional kimonos waiting for us at the main hall. Check process was quick and the staff assigned to us led us to our room, explaining all the various facilities along the way. Our room was spacious with a separate dining room and bedroom, and an ensuite onsen with a mountain view! Quite a luxury! Everything was clean and tidy, although some parts look like time had taken its toll - but everything was working fine. Although the overall design and fittings were very traditional, the owner had cleverly built in rather modern amenities into the fittings, e.g. airconditioning, LCD TV, etc. The staff serving us looked after our meals well and served us like royalty in the comfort of our room - although she could only speak limited English. Will come back!

Great first ryokan with onsen experience! ”

Yaeikan is an economical ryokan to stay at & not break the bank to experience a traditional Japanese inn. It's an easy 7 minutes walk from Hakone-Yumoto station. We stayed in the Asuka room for one night. It is on the highest floor (we requested) facing the front street & is big enough for a couple with our own private toilet & separate sinks. We definitely got an upgrade because I did not book such a room. The staff was super friendly & polite. Our room server, Junko, was a joy to meet! The traditional 12 course dinner & breakfast were delicious! We enjoyed the hot tea, sleeping kimonos, & appreciated the staff setting up/putting away our beds. The baths are small with clean hot spring water. There is a public men & women bath that switches during different times so you can experience both (one is outside). They also have a private bath for small families & a private outside bath for couples. They held our luggage when we arrived earlier & left later than the check in/out time!

Good in room environment ”

I booked this room cause of the in-room private onsen. the actual onsen look like what the photos shown. traditional japanese style room with tatami and the bathroom is awesome, just like a mini public onsen bathroom, you can bath prior jump into the private onsen right next to the bathing area. And it is private, you can enjoy it with you hubby or lover. the environment is so cool. also the location of the hotel is good, just 10mins walk to train station back to Tokyo and few mins walk to convenience store. I like it very much but only quite expensive to spend a night here.

First class service”

Really really really love the place. We got our self the deluxe Japanese room with river view (Just above the lobby/entrance, if you look at the picture). The bedroom was very spacious, which, imho, should fit 4 or 5 on futon. Then the next room for dining and another for... I guess for sitting down and just relaxing. The private onsen was really nice, once on the reserved and the free private onsen. The lady assigned to take care of us was really nice. She understood that I have limited Japanese and she explained everything politely and very slowly. The food was delicious. really... so delicious. Breakfast and dinner is included in the price. Breakfast is at around 7:30 and dinner around 19:00. The lady explained that we should confirm by 18:30 if we'd like to have dinner or they won't be able to prepare one for us. A bit sad that we had to skip them on one of the days because we started really early and went back home really late. But still, really lovely place to stay. Definitely will come back here someday

Amazing Traditional Ryokan Experience!”

Had a wonderful experience at this ryokan! My partner and I stayed in the superior japanese style room with open air bath and mountain view for one night and it was true to the photos and worth every penny! The room was the size of a small apartment with plentiful space and the private onsen bath looking over the mountain was very relaxing! The traditional Japanese food was delicious and beautifully presented and our Japanese host was very accommodating. Overall, highly recommend this ryokan and for the full experience book a room with a private onsen and view!

The location is easy to find, about 10 mins walk from the Hakoneyumoto station. The staff are very polite and they provide really good service in our stay! There's a young man did the check-in, he spoke really good English, the staff also can understand what you need and they are willing to help. The place is a bit old, very clean, if you like Japanese style room, it's a good choice. The food is just amazing!

Convenient location, about a 10 minute walk to the train station. Check-in was easy, and we were able to sign up for a time in the private onsen. Room was quiet and private onsen was very relaxing. We enjoyed being able to use the other two private onsens on site. Dinner was good (breakfast wasn't my favorite, but we knew we were getting into with the traditional Japanese breakfast) and our staff member Senna was very nice while explaining each course of our meal. The room was super spacious and I loved getting to experience every detail of a traditional inn. I think this place is a bit overpriced, but I still loved my stay.

A taste of traditional Japan”

We really enjoyed the one night we stayed at this ryokan. It's a small place, not far from the main train station and town. The room we had was huge - separate dining and sleeping area, with private bathroom. We loved the private onsen in our room with a view of the mountains. The bath was also big enough for 2! At night we slept on futons which we found quite comfortable. Everything you need is provided so you really don't have to bring anything with you, even pyjamas! The highlight was having breakfast and dinner served in our room. Although the menu was in Japanese, everything was explained in perfect English! The food was so finely prepared, pretty to look at, and very delicious. The public onsen was a little disappointing as we found the rooms quite stuffy. But since we had our own private bath, we didn't quite mind not using them. Quite a lovely, quiet place for a little 'just us' time.

Location was very convenient for an onsen ryokan. For the price sensitive, I suggest opting for the normal rooms (without an in room onsen) as each room is allowed to reserve a 30min timeslot for a private onsen upon check in.

The price is a bit on the higher side but other than that. Everything was awesome. Loved the service, the rooms, the private onsen, the breakfasts and dinners, and location. If there isn't anyone at the lobby to receive you, just ring the bell on the front desk lobby. They only accept cash.

Great Stay in a Traditional Ryokan”

A great stay in an authentic Japanese Ryokan with hot spring onsens. The property is located a 10 - 15 min walk from the train station. The venue, onsen and room were very clean and nicely decorated. The staff were friendly, especially the young lady who served the great food in our room. Would happily stay again at this Ryokan!

Incredible!”

Truly an incredible experience! We were a group of 3 and got the place for 75% off so the deal alone made it worth our while. The service was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the dinner and breakfast package. The quality and flavors will leave you astounded. These meals are also served in your room and are traditional Japanese style meals. The hotel is also very close to all the little shops and restaurants Hakone has to offer. The soba noodle shop on the corner right before you go over the bridge is fantastic. The hotel provides all the necessary amenities you require from combs to toothbrushes as well as body soap, shampoos and lotions. Very highly recommend for anyone spending any sort of time in that area.

Pleasant ryokan with onsen ”

We booked one night here with dinner and breakfast in the room. Food, room size and space was excellent. You could book an onsen for 30 mins to have a private bath and there were family bathrooms with smaller onsens too. Right on the river, staff friendly and helpful. Calming and relaxing stay.

Romantic stay at a Nice traditional RYOKA”

We paid for a private open-air Onsen in our room which was totally worth it. We also had traditional Japanese dinner in our room which was nice although we recommend to google some information about a stay at a RYOKA first since the traditions are so specific (we felt as we messed up several times!). Dinner was interesting with flavors and consistencies we’d never had before. Truly a once in a life time thing!
