Wonderful hotel. Friendly staff. Awesome breakfast.”

We loved our stay here. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Got a room upgrade. Room and bathroom were clean and nicely furnished. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. A few foreign English channels on tv. The buffet breakfast on the rooftop was awesome. Big choice from vegetables and meats to fruit and cake. Even had peanut butter and chocolate or jam spreads for the bread. One has a choice to eat inside or outside on the rooftop. Great views over Yangon of Shwedagon Pagoda on one side and the river on the other. It's on a narrow one way street and often best to tell the taxi to drop you on the corner of 21st Street and Maha Bandula as it's only about 40 metres to walk down and saves a long detour in the taxi to come round to the hotel. Hotel location is great. Right in the centre of town and only a few minutes walk from the popular restaurants/bars of 19th street. Taxi from the airport is easy to get at the taxi counter inside after you exit the arrivals hall. About 8000 to 10,000 kyat. Money exchange booths are nearby. Hotel doormen will arrange a taxi to the airport as you leave the hotel and it's usually 10,000 kyat. Journey to or from the airport can take up to one hour in busy times as traffic tends to be bad. Yangon hotels tend to be more expensive than Bangkok hotels and often come with bad service. But Grand United 21st is great value and service is top notch. We loved our stay at Hotel Grand United 21st Downtown and look forward to going back there.

Wonderful hotel in a great location”

Location is amazing, staff were incredible, room was large, clean, comfortable and had a great city view

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Grand United 21st Downtown for two nights, though I wish it could have been for longer. The hotel is in a wonderful location- we were able to walk around downtown Yangon and to some major sites within the city very easily. The staff were also incredible; they were so warm, friendly and helpful during our entire stay. The room that was stayed in was large, clean and comfortable and had a nice city view. The breakfast was also very good (and has a great view!) I can't say enough how lovely this hotel is and I can't wait to stay there again next time I go to Yangon.

Great Budget Hotel. Superb Rooftop Breakfast. Good Value”

I stayed here a few months ago. Glad to be back. I love this hotel. The hospitality from the staff, the wonderful buffet breakfast on the rooftop and it's very good value for money. The reception is on the 4th floor but there is an elevator to it. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Room is quite nice & clean as is the bathroom. I love the buffet breakfast here on the rooftop. Eat indoors with air conditioning or outside. Great selection of food inc meat and veg, and even peanut butter and chocolate spreads which is a bonus. Lovely views over Yangon. About 15 tv channels a few of which are western including premium US movie channel, US news service, sports and French tv. Hotel is centrally located and just a few minutes walk from the bars/restaurants of 19th Street. Taxi from airport cost 10,000 kyat ( pronounced ja ). Get a ticket from official taxi staff inside airport as you depart the arrivals hall. Going back to the airport hotel arranged a lovely car & driver and it also cost 10,000 kyat. Hotel is on a narrow one way street and sometimes it's better to tell the driver to drop you on the corner of Maha Bandoola Rd and 21st Street. It's only a 40 meter walk to the hotel and may save a long time going round the other way if coming in a particular direction. Yangon traffic is horrendous and an airport journey can take up to an hour. I'm looking forward to going back to Grand United 21st in November.

My stay in Grand United was really good. On the first day, we went to the wrong hotel. We went to the Chinatown branch and was told we were at the wrong place. But luckily grand united 21st is only 2 streets away from the china town branch. The hotel haa a security guard 24 hours to guard the entrance and it makes me feel pretty safe. The room is pretty big and clean and I like the location. The only downside is that the aircon is pretty noisy and it can get really cold even when it is adjusted to 24 degrees. But I will definitely stay in Grand United 21st Downtown again on my next trip to Yangon which is really soon!

Downtown at the hotel Grand United on 21st Yangon”

        service, breakfast, location

The room was an okay size not exactly spacious. It was dark no natural light. But hey! I was in downtown Yangon! Everything and everywhere in downtown Yangon is a little bit squeezed. For Yangon the room rate was very reasonable what with Yangon supposedly being as expensive a city to live in as New York. A short walk away is 19th street where you can get good cheap food and drink in the evening or 14th street if you are into Japanese food. The breakfast in all the Grand United hotels inn Yangon was great. English style and Asian style and done very well. Everyone was friendly. Everyone calls hello to you in the morning and gives you a big smile. It's a fun place, good service, nice people, great location, value for money.

        Great hotel, will return again”

        Cleanliness, Staff Service, Comfort

Yangon travelers will know that having a nice hotel at acceptable prices is a luxury in Yangon. Grand United 21st Downtown has just that! Room interior, beds and finishing was of high standards by Yangon's standards. They had a good spread of breakfast (again by Yangon's standards) that kept my tummy full in the day. The staff service was excellent and ready to help. Highly recommended is this newly opened Sapel Burmese Traditional Foot Spa at Chinatown's 16th Street close to Mahabandoola main road. I returned to it many times during my stay for the ambience and 5 star service standards inside the massage place. It is truly something extraordinary from Yangon's unkept and dirty streets, especially a haven compared to the busy Chinatown streets outside. I think all tourists should go try out the place, especially relaxing after a day's tour and walk around downtown Yangon.

        Perfect Location”

This hotel is in an awesome location- walking distance to most every attraction and just a few streets down from China town, where you can find great food, markets and nightlife. I wanted to stay somewhere inexpensive but clean, and this hotel was perfect. It was very clean and the room had everything we needed, including coffee, water, a fridge and safe. The bathroom seemed to be newly remodelled and modern, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff is extremely polite and friendly, and the breakfast buffet has lots of delicious options. We also enjoyed the rooftop restaurant, where we sat at night to have a drink and play cards. We enjoyed our stay at the beginning of our trip so much that we came back at the end and stayed for a second night. I definitely recommend Hotel Grand United 21st Downtown.

        Another New Hotel”

        newness, location, price

There are now about as many new hotels in Yangon -- mid-range opened in the last 2 years -- as there are old ones. Prices (at least until high season) about $75-100. Anyone complaining about cost value and availability simply doesn't know this town, or else they're really cheap people. The proprietorship behind this one have two others, all done in what Chinese-schooled style architect and decorator imagines to be modern. Fairly good quality construction and details (except for the windows) although little thought to ergonomics and rooms are small, cramped. Room fittings, finishings, bed, linens (four pillows), TV, internet all are good. Professional staff. Breakfast mix of Asian and Western, not elaborate, basic actually and par for hotels of this price range. Bathroom 'traditional' here, i.e. no tub/shower, just a pipe coming out of the wall. Can walk to what Lonely Planet features as attractions and be amongst the other first time tourists seeing Yangon. If your budget puts you here, you could do worse. We'll stay with Grand Uniteds again until other new and better ones open.

        Location, comfort room and service

Highly recommended for you to stay here. There are 3 branches of Grand United hotel, you have to tell taxi driver to go to 'DownTown-21st street', otherwise, you may end up to tour to 3 branches like us, other family arrived on the same day also got the same problem. Room is good & clean, food is also good.

        We loved this place”

We stayed 4 nights. Front desk were helpful. Anyone come Yangon first time I recommend several things. Never get online visa. It is best to go Myanmar consult in Bangkok which only cost THB less than 1500 for single entry. You could get visa by 3:30 pm if you apply it at 9:00 am. Arrive Yangon airport only way to go downtown Yangon is by taxi cost less than MMK 8000. I recommend to go 999 noodle place in down town Yangon. James

Conveniently located in the city center”

        Location, location, location

The hotel is conveniently located on 21st Street in the city center. Another hotel of the same brand Hotel Grand United is two streets away to the east. Day and night the streets are packed with street vendors selling almost everything. There are two or three fairly large convenience stores nearby too. Food was OK, but the same every day. The recreation room is pretty small and nobody seemed to have used it during my stay. The rooftop restaurant is pretty cool, and Shwedagon Pays is clearly visible to the north during the day. The hotel seems guest friendly since a staff asked me if I needed a girl at night. Good thing is he was not aggressive and never asked again. It is hard to find a decent place to drink in town, but the streets are pretty safe.

        Located in "old Rangoon".”

        Breakfast, location, and security.

The hotel is located in the old part of town near both Chinatown and Downtown. If you like walking, it's the perfect location to discover the city. The reception is located on the 4th floor and they're quite helpful and speak good English. The hotel appear to be located in "shady" alley, but fear not, Yangon I found was quite safe even at night. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good located on the rooftop with your choice of al fresco, or inside the cover portion of the restaurant. I did not try their food in the restaurant but I understand they serve dinner till 10 pm. daily. On the street level, there's always a security guard there to greet you, and occasionally a bellperson. The elevator had a peculiar smell and had to hold my breath every time I used it. (maybe a combination or urine and cleaning solution) Yangon is an old city shield away from the rest of the world, they are not quite ready for international tourism on the same scale as their neighbor, Thailand, but it only adds to the character of the city. The room was clean, water was warm with good pressure, bed was firm but adequate, enough TV channels, and most importantly good free connectivity wi-fi. One step up from the Superior, I chose the Deluxe room, about ten dollars more and a tad bigger. Overall, I felt safe on the 7th floor, breakfast was plentiful, and the hotel staff efficient. I will return.

        The best in Yangon”

        Food, Location, Service

One of the best hotels I've booked with Agoda, we arrived there early in the morning of 23rd of January, our room is not yet available and we can't check-in yet but they offered us free buffet breakfast at their rooftop resto. The location is really in the downtown area which will give you the downtown Yangon feel. The resto on the 9th floor with the view of the Shwedagon Pagoda is to die for, fave part of the day is breakfast for it gave me ultimate view of the city. Even though the breakfast buffet is consistently the same everyday, it was never a problem for it's always fresh and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, will definitely book this one again.

Pretty Cool Place... with a note”

The Grand Hotel 21st (there are many) is a nice hotel especially for the price. Great breakfast, fun location, nice staff etc. I booked a room with a window, which turned out to a be an incredibly small room, with a cool balcony and window. We had a lot of things, so this wasn't ideal for us. If I did it again, I'd book the cheapest room without a window. My friend did that and had a room nearly twice the size. I'm sure the staff would have changed our room if we requested, but I did enjoy hanging out on the balcony some. Definitely a nice hotel. Clean, comfortable, nice staff etc. have some extra 1000 notes and tip the staff - they'll appreciate it.

Small hotel with a great heart for service!”

Great service, comfortable room, lovely rooftop restaurant with a view

When i first reached the hotel, i was at first disappointed but once i entered it, I WAS TOTALLY SURPRISED. It looked modern and comfortable inside!!! The reception was able to speak moderate English and they had great service but answering our queries and even offered iced mineral water when we checked in. The service was awesome as the staff also offered to help us in many ways. The room was small yet cosy and clean. The breakfast was good and the view at the rooftop restaurant was amazing! It is a nice place to chill out. When i expressed my desire to visit the Golden Rock, the hotel reception staff helped me to their best abilities by arranging for transport at 4AM. I would like to compliment one particular staff, Mr AK, who made our stay a more than pleasant one. We would recommend this hotel to all visitors to Yangon as it is a hotel that is worth more than the price that you have to pay.

        Good location”

Great view from the roof top bar, comfortable room

The hotel is coveniently located in the downtown area and within easy walking distance to the regular sights, although taxis are reasonable and definitely preferable when dark. This is only because the state of the pavements and the protential danger when walking in the road. The roof top bar had a great view and the staff were very helpful. The room was confortable but ours had limited view being lower down and facing the next door building wall. Everything worked in the room / bathroom but outside noise was an issue but did not spoil our stay. When staying I would request a high floor room both for the view and the noise from lower down. Prices in Yangon hotels are high compared to the rest of Asia but the 21st was fair for the standard and location.

        Value for money, friendly hotel”

We stayed at the Grand Union in August and really enjoyed our stay. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, welcoming us with lovely cold water on a very hot day. We arrived a little early but the room was almost ready so we checked in early. The room was good, clean and tidy and welcoming. Wallpaper peeling a little but apart from that it was perfect. It was in a good location to stroll around the downtown area. Breakfast was good with lots of options, cereals, juices, toast, bacon, rice etc. We had a flight at 6pm so we kept our bags at the hotel and they offered to let us have a shower before we left which was very welcome. It was a great hotel with really wonderful staff and we were sad to leave. We would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel amidst the exciting chaos of Central and Chinatown ”

Was with my cousin for just two nights. He was rather unimpressed by the facade which admittedly is not exciting - disappointing even. The reception on the 4th floor does not overwhelm one either .. other than the very friendly staff. But onde you get to the guest rooms, it was more than satisfactory. The rooms are rather small, but who goes to Yangon to spend the whole day in the room. It was comfortable, good beds, clean linen, robes and slippers and a mini-fridge all included in our Deluxe room. The bathroom was spic and span. The rooftop restaurant offered an excellent view of the floodlit Shwedagon pagoda in the distance. Excellent breakfast (with mohinga!) All in all, highly recommended. BTW, there is anothe Grand United property 2 blocks away.

        Clean, Comfort, Fast internet

I picked this hotel because it closed to my office..the location is a perfect spot for work and sightseeing as it situated in the heart of Yangon..15 mins walk to Sule Pagoda and half and hour walk to Skott market..Most of the facilities were great! The room was extremely clean..The internet in the room quite fast compare to the other places and hotels in Yangon..however, one draw back was it hardly make a call because there is no phone signal in the room. Everytime we made a call we need to go to lobby area or open the window..
