Excellent onsen and kaiseki dinner”
This is my first stay in Hotel Mahoroba. It is a 3-min walk from the bus station, where the bus (JR Pass cannot be used) travels to and from JR Noboribetsu. A stretch of shops is a 2-min walk away from the hotel, where you can get souvenirs. Clear signs lead to Jigokudani (Hell Valley), which takes about 10 minutes on foot. I booked one Japanese-style room for three persons for one night. The room was clean and well equipped - couldn’t ask for more. The heating was set to low, but it got so hot in the middle of the night that we had to switch it off and open the windows. There are indoor and outdoor onsen in Basement 2, and indoor onsen in Basement 1. The onsen are gender segregated, such that at specific hours of the day, females use those in Basement 2 while males use those in Basement 1, and then the onsen are closed for a while for cleaning and subsequently females use those in Basement 1 while males use those in Basement 2. (You get the idea.) I chose the option of a kaiseki dinner in a private dining room. The experience was out of this world. The seafood couldn’t get any fresher, and the variety was so great (and the food kept on coming) that by the end of the meal, I was absolutely stuffed, but more than satisfied! I tasted puffer fish sashimi for the first time, and the wagyu melted in my mouth! Buffet breakfast the next day had a huge spread. It seemed ok to wear a yukata for breakfast, just like we did for dinner. The checking out process was smooth too. On the whole, it was a great stay in January 2020 and I look forward to my next stay at Hotel Mahoroba!

Nice onsen and food is delicious”
High recommend for this hotel. The hotel is convenient, near the shopping street, the dinner is very good, I love the crab, sashimi, beef, grapes, ......, there are two floors for Onsen, the environment of outdoor Onsen (at floor B2) is beautiful and B2 is open for woman between 09:00 - 03:00 and woman has to change to floor B1 between 04:00-9:00. There is a game centre at B1 floor open till midnight but I didn’t visit it. Walkable distance to the landmark that I went for hiking and enjoy the natural environment. I will definitely visit this hotel again for my next visit.

Great outdoor onsen and very good all-you-can-eat meals”
Hotel is only a few minutes walk to the bus station, which is convenient going to / from the train station. The onsen is great with several different choices. The outdoor onsen has a beautiful view, but for men, you need to go there in the early morning. The buffet is so good and unforgettable! Just imagine all you can eat king crab! BTW, the room is huge! Love it! Love it!

Great onsen and nice crab dinner with king crab, snow and hairy crab. Its summer time, frozen crabs.”
This hotel is near to jigokudani hells valley. I think the nearer you get, the sulphur smell gets thicker. I book the japanese superior style room. They will lay the futton after 6.30 pm, so forget having a nap in the afternoon, or you may prepare it yourself :). We get the crab dinner. It is good buffet dinner. Go to the dinner at 6.30 the latest, so you will get enough time to eat. At 8 pm the staff is already asking you to wrap up soon. The choices of eateries are not much there. We tried pizza cafe, nice but not for full meals though. Must try the public onsen. Splendid onsen. 8 pools with variety of water : sulphur, green, tea, salt, apple n pear. The onsen and open air bath is one of the best comparing to kononsou in kawaguchiko, even to nonokase in toyako. :) Wander around jikokudani forests, get the foot bath in the forest stream. Hells valley is good at day and try also at night time with beautiful lamps. Just short walking distance from this hotel.

A gem in Noboribetsu ”
We were initially booked to stay at Dai-ichi Takimotokan, but it was cancelled due to the state of emergency in Hokkaido and the entire facility closing its doors for the month of February. Not to be completely deterred, we chose Hotel Mahoroba as the next choice. Honestly, I think this might be the better option when staying overnight in Noboribetsu. While Takimotokan is open for the public, Hotel Mahoroba is only available to guests. So, if the other is open, you could enjoy two truly excellent onsen in Noboribetsu. I enjoyed my stay immensely. The staff were quite friendly and kind and the rooms and onsen were clean and comfortable. I would absolutely stay in this hotel again.

Stunningly large onsen with great open-air onsen”
Even the price is quite high, the hotel offers both seafood dinner and local breakfast in our room package. The room is a standard tatami room which feel quite crammed for 4 adults. However, the onsen is their masterpiece that can outshine the limited room space. If you love taking an outdoor onsen. This hotel is definitely a go!

Great Experience! Relatively pricey, but will return.”
The hotel is easily accessible by the Dōnan Bus from Noboribetsu JR station. Staff was extremely nice and helpful - especially Josie Chen - very enthusiastic in helping to resolve any questions you had. After checking in, they will match you with a Staff that knew your language to help lead you to your room. The Onsens they had were of many varieties. The area was also big so even with many people there, you still had a lot of space to move about. We had both dinner and breakfast at the Hotel. Both meals (buffet style with lots of varieties) were awesome - though it can get a little busy. Overall a very awesome experience - though it is relatively pricey for the likes of its kind. Will stay again if we return to Noboribetsu.

Exceptional”
decently close to the bus stop, about 200 meters walk, not too far up the hill. Huge hotel without english name outside, you might have to google the location as they only have their japanese name outside their hotel. decently close to shopping street, and huge onsen.

Worth value”
Hotel is near the Noboribetsu bus station. We were satisfied with professional staff. We chose japanest style room which had no bed. Hotel staff prepared the futon for us while we were having dinner. Good buffet!

Very comfortable, Good Service, Clean room”
Personally, I think room is a bit too small for the price. With 4 futons in room, there was no space left for luggages. Varieties of food is OK, but taste was too salty for Giant Crab and also some others. Services are superb, everybody is polite and friendly. All are impressive, but all in all, a bit expensive.
