Feels Like Home”
Our stay in this hotel was very memorable. It is located next to Hakone Lake near the Hakone Shrine & Hakone port. Our room has the direct view to Hakone Lake & we can see Hakone Shrine from our room. The Hotel is quite old & traditional. The rooms are all Japanese traditional style room with futon bed. If you book this hotel include their breakfast & Kaiseki Dinner, You will not regret it. If you love Japanese traditional food, I guarantee you will love it so much like me & my wife did. Their Japanese Breakfast menu will also awe you. They have a public bath (Indoor & Outdoor) at the highest floor of their hotel with direct view to Hakone Lake. It is separated for Men & Women. You can enjoy your relaxing hot bath while staring out the beauty of Hakone Lake. The staffs were the best part of this hotel. They are already at the age of my grandparents I think. But their spirit & passion to serve the guests has touch my heart. Thank you so much for your kind & warm welcome. (^_^)

Away from the busy city life”
We took the pirate ship from togendai station in the morning. With hakone pass, it is very convienient to take tozan bus, railway, ropeway, ship and cable car. Hotel is at moto hakone. Very quiet and slow pace town. We choose the lake view room however the view was affected by the weather. The optimum view resumed in the following morning and it was indeed worth while to choose this hotel. The food was served in the room and the O-ba-san was very friendly. The food include a very big spread of traditional Japanese food such at sashimi, etc. the room was clean and spacious. The public bath in the ryokan was ok but the view was affected by the bad weather. After check out, we took numazu bus to mishima station with hakone pass. The journey downhill was splendid overlooking my fuji. Overall it was good experience.

A little bit of Heaven on Earth...”
The location is very convenient since it is so close to a port for a sightseeing cruise, plus the Hakone Shrine and Hakone Checkpoint are within a good walking distance. Our room did face the lake, but during sunset the room did get quite hot from the amount of light pouring in, and the AC unit wasn’t very strong. The onsen was very relaxing, but once again during sunset the light can be very bright, so I couldn’t quite get the view I wanted because I was squinting. In contrast, I did go to the onsen at 6AM and the view then was serene, so I highly recommend going in the morning. The staff did not speak much English but they made up for it with customer service and care. The kaiseki dinner is must if you stay here. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious and were a great experience. Overall we enjoyed our stay and may look to staying here again if we ever make our way back to Hakone. Thank you!

Quaint retro Ryokan with amazing views”
This hotel has clearly not changed a bit since the 1960s, hence is a little shabby around the edges, but that’s what gives it its charm. It’s a traditional Japanese hotel experience. I had booked a mountain view room but was upgraded to a lake view room with a sensational view of Hakone shrine. The staff are all lovely, elderly people who take pride in their hospitality. I had the kaiseke dinner in my room - it was not outstanding but good, with some nice seasonal touches. It was served all at once rather than in courses so went a bit cold, but it meant I had privacy to relax. Same goes for breakfast in the banquet room. Pro tip- buy local beer and sake from the 7-11 by the bus station to have with your meal, no need to order from the hotel. The onsen are lovely, the outdoor one needs tidying up a bit but the water is incredibly soothing. Do your homework and if you’re looking for a traditional experience that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time this is a good choice.

Nice and homely Ryokan”
The hotel was located in front of Lake Ashi, which meant that the view was extremely beautiful when you use the in-house bath. With the Hakone Free Pass, you can chart out a pretty nice itinerary to visit the Hakone/Mt Fuji area using all the available modes of transport. Staff were friendly and tried their best to accommodate to my requests even though there was an apparent language barrier. I had a great stay overall and this stop was definitely one of the most memorable.

Excellent Hotel @ great location & people”
Hotel is located conveniently 2mins walk from Motohakone Ko sightseeing cruise/bus station. There are 2 convenience store to its left and right. Lawson & 7-11. So if it’s beyond 5pm there, (which is the time all shops closes) u know where to find food. Don’t worry, the variety of food is huge. Not sure why people are saying it’s a run down place, but perhaps I’m luckier. The room is spacious, clean. Plenty of space for my little one to run about, with the perfect view of Lake Ashi. Would be a good idea to consider buying their breakfast/dinner from the hotel. Enjoy the view while u eat. I’d definitely stay there again if I’m returning to Hakone. ◡̈

A value for money traditional Japanese accommodation.”
Together with my spouse & teenage child, we stayed for 2 nights. We opted for breakfast & dinner. The meals were different daily & never fail to impress (& surprise) us. From the presentation, we see each dish is done with great effort & tasty too (especially the tofu!). Despite a late request for 1 pax with vegetarian diet, the hotel staff is understanding & helped us to meet our needs. The hotel location is closed to amenities (eg. convenience shop, souvenirs shops, bus stop*, restaurants, etc). And of course, next to Lake Ashi!... also a short walking distance to Hakone Shrine. The outdoor onsen is remarkable too especially at night. A tranquility experience! The hotel staff from counter, room makeup to kitchen are ready to help. Look no further, if you want to experience a traditional Japanese lodging! * bus stop 151 (Hakone-jinja-iriguchi)

Perfect Hotel”
Or stay was perfect. The hotel was conveniently located near the areas we were interested in. It is a lakefront hotel just across the pier and the Line H bus. It is 40min away from Hakone Yumoto by bus but that's ok. The area is less crowded and has a small(er) town feel, which we like. The area does end it's day early. Some shops close by 5pm so if you need to have more options for dinner, better get it from the hotel or have it early.

Nice Stay”
It was a pleasant stay there in August, though the weather was terribly bad on that day. Lake-view room is a must-choice as you can see the complete view of Lake Ashi. I chose half-board stay so I had both dinner and breakfast in the hotel. The room service dinner was unforgettable and the seasonal food was superb. The Japanese breakfast was impressive too. The public spa bath is rather small yet the cleanliness is still good. I would surely choose this hotel again in the next visit in Hakone.

Wonderful experience”
More than a hotel, this was an experience! The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was very traditional ryokan which is what we wanted. The hot springs inside the hotel was very nice with a great view. I would definitely stay there again if I go back to Hakone.

Great view, nice stay!”
This was an amazing little ryokan in Moto-Hakone! We had a great view of he lake! We got the dinner to our room which was a ton of fun and then ended up hanging out in the onsen for a few hours. Breakfast wasn't worth it, we could have had something tastier out in town. But the service was amazing, they gave us free postcards and then let me send it from the ryokan! Absolutely amazing stay!!

Pleasant stay in Hakone”
Within a 5 min walk from Moto-Hakone Pier, definitely a good location to have a nice view of Ashinoko lake. If you are lucky enough, you can see mount Fuji from your hotel room. Highly recommended.

Good Location but Old”
This is an old ryokan-styled hotel. The location is good, just right in front of the beautiful lake and the harbor. Walking distance to the Hakone Shrine so it is pretty convenient. The hotel itself is quite old, with the onsen on the top floor. The onsen is relatively small but good enough. Food is good but we have tasted better elsewhere. Staff are very personal and attentive. They will remember your preferences and requests.

Highly Recommend!”
View of the lake was amazing; walking distance to most attraction in Hakone; staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room is a little outdated but was kept clean.

a great onsen experience”
A great experience here! I stayed here on my 1st day in Japan. I was amazed by the beautiful scenery and atmosphere around the hotel. This hotel is surrounded by small city and lake! My room is facing the lake! Could you image waking up to the beautiful lake view? When I entered the hotel, all the staffs were so helpful. They all treated all their guests like a king. You wont be allowed to bring your own bags, literally! And most of all they dont ask for tips! They do it sincerely. Wow. And after that the staff showed me the room. It was a ryokan or a japanese traditional hotel. And then the staff also helped us to have a tea time like a japanese. After enjoying our tea time,we went out to have dinner, and we found this tiny japanese restaurant, they served sashimi. After we ate too much, we went back to the hotel to enjoy our midnight onsen. Here is the best part! You put on your yukata, then go to the 5th floor, (the onsen is located on the rooftop), wash your body 1st, then enter the onsen. They have 2 types of onsen, the outdoor and the indoor. I only enjoyed the indoor one, bcs at that time, the temperature is freakingly cold. I could not stand onsen-ing in the outdoor one. After done with the midnight dip, I went back to my room, to sleep like a japanese with those thick blanket. I remembered I went to sleep with a big smile on my face. So suming up, this hotel is a great choice for foreigners who want to have a real japanese culture experience! Best staffs, best scenery, best location, best value!

Best in location for sightseeing & relaxation”
The location is superb. Very near to Moto Hakone-ko to take ferry. Bus stop for sightseeing is 20 seconds away. Staff is very friendly and able to recommend best sightseeing routes. Hot spring opened throughout the day for inhouse guests. Condition of hotel is old. Wifi only available at lobby area.

Great traditional Japanese experience”
It was great experience visiting Hotel Musashiya in March 2019. Enjoyed a lot the location, gorgeous traditional dinner set, hotel staff is extremely friendly though a bit of more English would be a definite plus. All facilities including public places like Ibsen are very clean. WiFi is in the lobby only. Transports are really frequent and easy to access. Definitely the experience to repeat!

Location and Service Over Room Quality”
The location is the best part of this hotel, being right next to Lake Ashi, the ferry port and Moto-Hakone bus stop. The staff also went out of their way to accommodate our requests, even if they had difficulties with English - only one lady was able to speak English fluently. They even offered us coffee and snacks on our last morning! Take note that you're paying mainly for the location, however. Rooms are average and bathrooms cramped, and wifi is available only in the lobby. That said, the onsen on the 5th floor is a great addition. Pray for good weather - it poured our first day but was completely clear the second.
