Three teen boys +”

The Hakone area was a great finish to our visit which began in Shinjuku Tokyo. The hotel is a little older, but clean and the room very spacious. The staff have limited English, but worked hard to assist us and were great. I choose this location as a way to get out of the big city, and because I (mom) love the spa. This was our first trip to Japan, so the hardest part for me was figuring out the transportation. Before arriving, I'd reserved the Odakyu Romance car online from Shinjuku to Hakone Yamoto, then purchased the boarding pass when in Shinjuku. Since we'd fly home afterward, we choose a Shinkansen from Odawara to Shinigawa, then transferred to the JR Narita Express; we bought those tickets also in Shinjuku when we first arrived. You can take train or bus from Hakone Yamoto to Odawara, and the hotels in the area share a shuttle with frequent pickups during the day to/from Hakone Yamoto for Y100 per person. The Odakyu Hakone 2 or 3 day pass is perfect for getting around the area and gave us discounts at some of the sights we visited. My teens enjoyed the outdoor experiences; I wish we had spent more time at Gora Park to do one of the hands-on crafts, but there's simply too much to do in the area. The Hotel Okada breakfast had plenty of variety and for dinner we just went to a little place downstairs for ramen, yakatori, and gyoza. The boys loved it and we definitely stayed busy. They have free Wi-Fi, even though we'd rented a WiFi spot for the week, and there's a market and bakery just a short walk down the road to satisfy the teen munchies.

Wonderful Onsen; Okay Accommodations”

Ryokan in Hakone can be extremely pricey, so Hotel Okada worked with our budget for this particular Hakone visit. We were traveling with family who were visiting us in Japan, so there was no need for romance and private in-room dining --- something that Hakone ryokan are known to do best. As I booked, I noted that Hotel Okada had affordable rooms, onsen, a meal option and seemed to be close to the main station and shopping. Rooms: plain and out-dated... If you do not smoke, please request the non-smoking room as your room may smell quite noticeably of smoke. However, for the price... it's on par. Onsen: quite beautiful! Multiple hot spring pools. Clear directions for first time onsen users. Truly a beautiful set-up. Meals: The hotel offered a dinner buffet which was included in our booking price. I thought the variety was good: a mix of Japanese and western food. Nothing fancy, but again... it matched the price that you paid. Location: Hakone is hilly and Hotel Okada is up the hill... a hike. However, the shuttle is fairly timely and will take you to and from the station. If you want to have a family trip to Hakone or are on a budget when visiting Japan, Hotel Okada is a good choice.

Our favorite hotel in the entire world”

This was our second trip to Hotel Okada, it was the least expensive in Hakone that serves kaiseki dinners in your room, which we highly recommend at least once on your visit. The dinner buffet was also spectacular, with so many options. Ditto for breakfast, enormous selection of food and drinks. The onsens are not to be missed, try and plan to have one day where you don't go out except in your yukata to the adjoining onsen. They have a restaurant you can have lunch in afterwards where you go in your bare feet! Cash only. Find the bus for 100 yen which takes you right to the hotel, route A I believe. No laundry facilities (or anywhere nearby from what I understand) but you don't wear anything but your robe here.

Lovely hotel in a quiet corner of Hakone”

Decor, friendly staff, comfy Japanese style room for the experience

for a first-timer to hakone, hotel okada is an excellent choice for it is conveniently located near to hakone yumoto stn & has a shuttle bus (yen100) that runs between the stn to the hotel. even if you miss the last shuttle run (at 6pm), you still can walk to the hotel (10-15mins walk) and it is quite a pleasant and cooling walk for me. okada spotted a nice location besides the river. the exterior & interior decor are very jap, just what i was lookng for to experience. i book the jap style accomo, sleeping in futon (fortunately the staff already made up the futon for us) and walking on tatami floor in the room, enjoying tea over the jap table setting, all adds on to a truely jap experience. i tried in indoor and outdoor onsen too, not a big onsen pool but was a good experience. the hotel staff are very helpful too and they truely maintain this hotel clean and tidy. certainly worth the stay! only thing i find that hotels in hakone generally can improve on is the check-in and check-out time. check-in at 3pm (after a long journey there) is tiring, and moreover having to checkout by 10am is just too early! but we can leave our lugguage at the conceige and continue sight-seeing till late.

Convenient Location, Reasonable price with spacious room ”

Have bought a Okakyu Hakone pass and stayed in the Hakone area for 2D1N. This hotel is around 5mins bus ride (100yen)from the Hakone-Yumoto Station, after dropping the luggage, I could walk back to the Station in 15mins , with trees, rivers and small shops on the street. The hotel has a large restaurant and my package included both dinner and breakfast buffet( both western and jap style food), yet the plates & utensils looked a little old to me. There are two spacious onsen area, one at the top floor of the hotel (24hr)and the other one is around 100m away(closed ard 11pm).The senyu room has its own bathroom( bath tub) and toilet, with a small living room, recommended for travelers who do not prefer shared bathroom. Staff I met ( a girl at lobby reception and a gentleman at restaurant front desk)were friendly and polite.

Exceptional”

First of all, you absolutely must get the dinner option! We had the most amazing Japanese style dinner served to us in our room and it was absolutely fabulous!! I lost count of how many dishes we were served of traditional Japanese cuisine. You can also let them know ahead of time of any allergy restrictions you might have and they'll customize your dinner. We stayed in the Standard Western/Japanese style room. The room was spacious and could have slept 5 but we had 2 to each room for privacy sake. The bathroom and bedroom decor was dated but clean. The bathroom felt cramped but who cares about the bathroom when you have an onsen downstairs to bathe at? The women's onsen had both an indoor and outdoor bath. You also have the option to walk over to the next hotel to use their baths free of charge. The next hotel had an small indoor bath and 3 outdoor baths of varying temperatures. You can even reserve a private outdoor bath. Hotel Okada also has a foot only bath situated outdoors under a bamboo roof. It was nice to sit and relax while soaking our feet after a full day of walking. The breakfast was really good. Lots of options. Short taxi ride from the train station. I recommend taking a taxi especially if you don't speak Japanese well. Tried calling the hotel to ask for the shuttle service but they did not understand english very well. Although the hotel appears to be older and dated, the service, food and peacefulness at Hotel Okada was worth the price we paid.

Stay at hotel Okada ”

The staff and room was excellent! Amenities were over the top! I wish there were more selections of restaurants. We didn’t make any dinner reservations (only fine dining) because we were touring and was not sure what time we would be back at the hotel. The choices were very limited. Thus the 4 stars for facilities. Another thing I would want to be improved is that I wish the hotel shuttle had more signage so we would know where to wait when we first arrived in Hakone. The worker that issued our Hakone free pass told us to wait for this bus that dropped us off on the back road of the hotel. We had to walk down a long, narrow and steep driveway to reach the hotel. After a long day on the train from Kansai Airport and the Tozan train up to Gora station and back, we were really pooped. We later learned more about the shuttle from the front desk. Thus the 4 stars for location. Other than that, I would really recommend this fabulous hotel!

Brilliant spa and excellent Japanese food”

Very good for enjoying Japanese hot springs

okada is a big hotel a bit further off from the centre of hakone, but easily accessible by bus. it has a brilliant open-air hot spring called yunosato attached to it, with a variety of different temperature hot springs, plasma baths and a huge natural jacuzzi. this is what you go there for, but the excellent japanese-style dinner is also not to be missed. if you want to enjoy the japanese-style hotel (ryokan) service once when you visit japan, this would be a good choice. i often go there directly from the airport to get rid of my jet lag, and it always works.

The hotel is located slightly more than 1km from Hakone-Yutomo station, easily walkable if you enjoy the scenery and shops along the way. The hotel is clean and well-maintained, the public onsen that is complimentary for hotel guests is wonderful as well! The meals are amazing, highly refined and delicate. Our eyes have opened to the delicacy of Japanese cuisine. We have totally enjoyed ourselves staying at Hotel Okada!

Luxurious hotel”

We stayed one night in a Western style Senyu room. The room, hot spring tub, and bathrooms were very clean and luxurious. The room was very spacious with a closet and room for luggage. But maybe it wouldn't be big enough if you wanted to do the Keiseki dinner in your room. The private onsen was very nice and relaxing. It's not open air but there are big windows all around. The dinner at the hotel opens late for dinner 7? or 8? but we were hungry after a long day and the staff suggested we can go to dinner at a little restaurant at the spa next door. I can't remember the name of that place, but the food was quite good and a good deal. Hotel Okada breakfast buffet was very nice. Lots of food options, mix of Western and Japanese. I would definitely stay again and maybe try a bigger room and the in-room keiseki dining next time.

What a fabulous place! You can stay in your yukata (Japanese robe provided) literally your entire stay. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of Japanese and Western food. The kaiseki dinner served in the room was 12 courses plus dessert, all delicious. The onsen had both indoor and outdoor pools, and we also were given total access to another one just a short walk outside a covered walkway. That one had numerous outdoor pools and was magical. There is also a restaurant in the Yunosato spa which you eat in your barefeet and yukata. This place seemed expensive at first, but when you factor in everything you are getting, it ends up being pretty reasonable. I don't recommend leaving the hotel and spa during your stay if you only have one or two nights here, do the Hakone tourist route either before or after to maximize your time here.

Nice hotel, good service, great buffet. ”

Pros: - nice hotel. Close to Hakone town (5 mins by bus). - Great staffs (especially three Taiwanese young ladies. They are the ones who can speak English). - good food at the buffet. - great onsen spa both at the hotel and next door. Cons: - quite pricey. We couldn’t booked for our youngest daughter through Agoda (but we found from some other web site that the kids under 6 can stay for free). The hotel charged us quite a lot for one 6 years old kid (enough to stay at a nice hotel somewhere else). - the restaurant has problem with the ventilation. Every time going there, we need to change our clothes and took shower again.

Great hotel for the hot spring baths (onsen), spa ”

Staff, Japanese style rooms, value for money, spa and hot spring baths

we booked the hotel because we wanted to visit hakone and its region, with lake, views of mt fuji and the cable car etc.and it was not too far from the hakone train station. we also were attracted to it because we could book a japanese style room and option to use the spa and hot spring baths, famous in this part of japan. the bus to and from the hotel was infrequent and yen each to use so we soon found out that we could walk to the main town (15 min down hill and 20 mins up). the room was very spacious and the bath and spa was a great new experience. hotel staff very helpful and friendly, including those who worked in the restaurant. good complimentary wi-fi in the lobby. the only downside was the fact that the choice of hotel restaurants were limited and some were closed relatively early.

Onsen haven!”

Hotel Okada gives you access to AMAZING onsen choices, located both within the property and in the hotel right next to it (less than 5 mins stroll). If you're here for a relaxing stay with onsen access, this property is a good option. If you're feeling indulgent, pay more for the private bath so you can enjoy a hot bath in the privacy & comfort of your own room, but under the night sky! We had dinner set up in our room on our 2nd night, which was a novel and exciting experience, but the food was pretty underwhelming, it looked way better than it tasted unfortunately. Wide selection of food at the breakfast buffet. Also fun to wear the yukata within the hotel. Do note that there's a shuttle service that can take you from the main terminal to and fro the hotel, at a cost of 100yen per pax each trip though. So you need to keep change on hand for all journey to/fro the property. You'll also need to be aware of the operating timing of the shuttle service. The ride is quite pleasant though, the hotel is less than 10mins away from the main terminal.

Exceptional hotel ”

The value for the open air bath room is exceptional. It was basically an apartment. Massive, clean, and a lot of cool features in the room. The public onsens were fantastic and relaxing. We didn’t have any breakfast or dinner here but we did order some chicken wings from the room service menu that were tasty. Overall, would stay again for sure. Hakone is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been and this is a great hotel to match the area.

Excellent hotel with marvelous staff”

We stayed two nights in different kinds of rooms. The one with the private Onsen is really great, can view the mountainous terrain, the room is new, likely just built. The Japanese meals that booked with the room are outstanding, gets to enjoy Japanese dining with outstanding service. Will definitely return to this hotel if we go Hakone again...

Good but improvement could be made”

I was first assigned to a room wich I was told was of the "same type" as the one I booked (Suisai 42sqm), but the bath was smaller and not round (had a terrace on the other hand). Since we were 4 people, we wanted the larger round bath so I complained to the front desk, which was able to switch us since the people who were assigned to the room in the pictures did not arrive yet. Keep in mind that this might not always be the case. The public baths are really nice but : - foot bath closes too early (9pm) - Yu no Sato's last admission is at 10pm, leaving you with the less good Okada public bath. - in the morning, Yu no Sato has its last admission at 8:30 (have to be out by 9am). - check out is too early (10am) -the karaoke forces you to buy all you can drink at 3500円, which is not worth it if you come after bathing (closes at midnight). The hotel could improve drastically by extending the Yu no Sato time and allowing for later checkout.

Nice Hotel with Onsen close to Hakone Yumoto Stn.”

Spa and Onsen insdie of the hotel
Not many restaurants around

We booked this at pretty high price but when we checked around we found that the hotel in this area is pretty expensive. Once we arrived there, we found that the hotel is a bit old. We got Japanese style room which we really like. The futon is so comfortable. We used the hotel's onsen and also the next door which is a bit nicer. There are not many restaurants around. We had Ramen at the basement. Travel to the hotel is quite easy. We took 100 yen shuttle bus from the Hakone Yumoto Station which takes just 10 minutes.

Lovely traditional hotel up in the mountains”

Spacious rooms, friendly staff, quaint

i had a lovely time at hotel okada, where we were given a traditional ryokan room. the hotel was located slightly up in the mountains, but wasn't very far from the main station, and is only about 5 mins away by bus (you have to pay 100 yen for 1 way trip) the room was very spacious, clean, comfy a treat as well to sleep on tatami mats! we were also given vouchers for breakfast and onsen (hot spring). unfortunately, we couldnt go for the onsen because of tattoos. do note that they can be quite strict on this, and they dont allow anyone with ink to go into the public hot spring. the staff were friendly and very accommodating, however, they dont really speak much english, so we took a bit of time to communicate with them. overall, it was a great experience and would definitely encourage anyone to stay with hotel okada.
