The Number 1 Choice”
Unparalled hospitality was what we experienced during our stay at the Biyu no yado ryokan in Yamanouchi, Nagano last month. Yukiko (the owner) and her team take pride in Omotenashi - service from the bottom of the heart. Yukiko is the most hands-on owner we have met. She leads by example, is fluent in English and personable. Typhoon Hagibis struck during our stay. Yukiko's assuring and warm disposition made us feel at home. She made her rounds to chat with each guest to see to our needs and concerns. Given the bad weather, all sight-seeing activities were cancelled and we had to stay indoors. Yukiko specially planned a 1.5 hours shopping trip to the nearest shopping mall, to liven up our spirit. Our onward journey as well as that of the other guests were disrupted due to the aftermath of Typhoon Hagibis (floods, landslides, roads closure and suspension of train and bus services). Everyone scrambled to make sense of how to deal with the situation. Yuk

Great place to stay”
Located right next to the Kappa bridge. Comfortable room. No aircon but there was a fan and heater. Meals were buffet. Not a large spread but nice food. Staff were friendly and helpful, spoke relatively fluent English.

Love the place and the view”
The place is just right next to the bridge and we have the stunning view of the river and the mountain, was really happy about it. The only draw back was very small onsen, but nevertheless, we really enjoyed our stay in the area.

Best location at the busy bridge”
Went in autumn and the scenery around the hotel was best though it can get very crowded and touristy during the day when day trippers were gather around the bridge and got too noisy.

Great Location, Friendly Staff and Excellent View!”
Surprised that my two nights stay include breakfast and dinner as it was not stated in the booking confirmation. Buffet breakfast and dinner if you stay for 2nd night, will be 7 course dinner. Excellent view of Mountain. Will stay here again if go Kamikochi

Beautiful hotel in beautiful location, but public bath restrictions and penny pinching make me hesitate to recommend it fully”
Overall a nice hotel in a beautiful location. Both dinner and breakfast were good too. Had to deduct one star for the below par public bath...firstly it's rather small, and secondly access was limited during my stay which meant I couldn't enjoy it to the full extent. While limiting access to the baths is understandable during Corona virus, it would have been nice if they could have told us when booking/reduced the price accordingly, as the baths were a main selling point; I was looking forward to a relaxing soak after a long day of hiking, but was left disappointed. Moreover, the room amenities were not stocked on arrival, and the staff wanted to charge ¥500 for a small portion of milk to add to my cup of tea! Neither are huge issues but considering the rather high price of the hotel, I expected better attention to detail and not to be "nickel and dimed" over a portion of milk.

The rooms are nice, but the dinner was soso. Not choice in the mountains. Will book again if any chance

Nearest Ryokan from bus terminal.”
Im sure the breakfast on a terrace has the most stunning view of all Ryokan there. However the Onsen is so tiny. It can fit just 3-4 ppl and it’s indoor with no view either. Staff are quite helpful when check in but when we’re about to check out, they turned cold (especially the most senior guy, tall guy with big hair couldn’t be any colder when we ask for help about some info). Found it to be a bit betrayed when we paid almost $1,000 for two nights there. Most other staff are very helpful though. Not sure if we would stay here again. Mixed feelings. This Ryokan is only 10meters away from Kappa bridge. But you still need to walk about 300-400m from the bus terminal. So please pack light.

Average hotel, some poor/discriminatory staff”
Very overpriced hotel for what you get. It is more expensive than the Ritz Carlton in Tokyo. Unfortunately, I did not feel very welcomed as a Westerner and upon check in the older male member of staff acted like I had no reservation despite me showing the email. He evidently didn’t want to deal with me and handed me off to the other staff (who was the younger male and a lot kinder). Will be going back to Kamikochi but won’t stay here again

Good location next to Kappa Bridge”
Good location next to Kappa Bridge(Kappabashi), approx. 300 m from bus station (not far for hotel in Kamikochi). Hotel is very beautiful, restaurant with great outside view, good public bath. The staff is very helpful, I like my Japanese style room. The only minus thing is there is no grilled meat in my dinner, the staff told me that because I stay 1 night, while the next table stay 2 nights(and they get grilled meat). .

Kamikochi is breath-takingly beautiful”
Hotels in Kamikochi are more expensive than I paid elsewhere but worth it. Friendly staff speak good English. Buffet dinner and breakfast included good mini versions of western food as well as the Japanese. I arrived early and left late, no problem at keeping my luggage while I was out walking. They up-graded me to a japanese-style bedroom with view of the mountains, wow!

Beautiful, perfect location”
Great service and unexpectedly awesome dinner was included, really felt like a special experience. Hotel is very cozy and location is perfect. Expensive, but that's how everything is in Kamikochi. If you're going to splurge and stay in the park, might as well stay here

Kamikochi is beautiful and this is right in the middle”
Location couldn't be better, just 500m from the Kamikochi bus stop and visitor center, yet you feel like you're out in the wilderness. Staying in Kamikochi is not cheap (unless you get a tent) but $270 / night seemed a little high for just a tiny room with Tatami floor mats and futons. The staff are amazingly helpful throughout. Even though it's not an onsen, since its not a natural hot spring, the baths they have are still nice (though they really screwed up by having the steam on the windows cover the view).
