My first room in the new building was large and well-appointed but had no character, was on ground level with no privacy from the street and had almost no wireless internet. The curtains were inadequate and in poor repair so this made the situation more awkward. I moved to the old building and was much happier. The reception is open only during the day, but the 'remote control' reception from Hellsten's other hotel is flawless and efficient. Don't be put off by the limited reception hours. The area, really an island, Katajanokka, is quiet and architecturally notable. It is not an area for nightlife, although I highly recommend the restaurant Wellamo which is a short walk from the hotel, and there is a small and cosy bar between the tram stop and the hotel. The price I paid for the hotel was very good indeed, and unequaled in value on the rest of my trip.
