Wonderful stay in traditional ryokan”
We really enjoyed our stay at Ichinoyu Katei! It was amazing to experience the traditional ryokan. The whole place is beautifully done, the room was spacious and very warm, and we enjoyed sleeping on the futons and wearing the yukata. We opted to have breakfast and dinner which was also an amazing experience - beautiful dining room and we were served multiple dishes, a good chance to try lots of interesting Japanese food. We used the onsen/bath on the roof which was lovely. At this ryokan you can get the key to the public bath houses on the street but we didn't choose to go bathe in any of them. The staff were so lovely - they drove us to the snow monkeys and to the train station. Would highly recommend!!

Beautiful ryokan ”
Yudanaka is such a lovely onsen village, with a magical key that allows you to enter all the small onsen around. Ichinoyu was a great choice, big room, very nice service, delicious food (we only had the breakfast but wish we could try dinner next time, although we had a great time at a sushi place recommended by the staff). And of course the rotenburo was very nice. Loved the experience, 10/10 would love to come again!

Beautiful Ryokan ”
We had a fantastic stay. The town is absolutely wonderful; walking between the local Onsens in Yukata is very magical. I highly recommend doing the dinner at the Ryokan as it was delicious and one of the highlights of our Japan trip. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, they even drove us to the snow monkeys on our final day and had our bags transferred to a coffee shop across from the train station.

A fantastic experience in a great location ”
Located on a picturesque street with access to the public bathhouse which is part of the unique experience of the onset town. The dinner and breakfast were superb and the room exceeded our expectation with its spacious and authentic layout. We would definitely stay here again and it was one of the highlights of our Japanese trip. Close proximity to the Snow Monkey park was a bonus.

Super good stay ”
The staff is very friendly and caring. They offer free pickup at the station even without knowing your arrival time. Then they also sent us to the monkey park front gate. The room is cozy in traditional Japanese style although we need to shower in the public bath - that’s no problem at all because there were not many customers in the hotel. The food is also good! Overall we had a fabulous experience!

Great ryokan!”
It was our first time to stay in a Ryokan. We were picked up at Yudanaka station around 2pm (you have to call them to arrange this), checked in quickly, then we asked for a shuttle transfer to the snow monkey park. Overall, it was a great stay, there's a public and private onsen at the Ryokan and you can also go to the different public onsens around Shibu Onsen. I highly recommend this Ryokan.

Excellent staff and authentic value”
One of the best places we've stayed at! From the moment we arrived til the time we left, we were treated with excellent service and kind welcoming smiles. Our host provided knowledgeable information of the area, hotel services and even gave us a lift to the monkey park. Would definately stay again!

Very attentive and helpful staff”
This was only our second stay at a ryokan and the staff were very helpful. They let us check in a little early and when waiting for the shuttle back to Yudanaka station the owner drive us instead since we were early there as well. My wife also loved the baths on the top floor, particularly the outdoor bath as it was nice to have the cooling effect of the mountain air.

Great food and very hospitable staff”
There is a pickup service to and fro the train station, which was great and saved us a lot of time. The hotel staff kindly drove us to the Snow Monkey Park too. Homely food.

Ryokan in Japan”
My friend and I stayed at Ichinoyu Katei for one night. It is located in a cute area with several shops nearby. If you're looking for a reasonably priced ryokan, Ichinoyu is the place! It is very clean and affordable and we enjoyed our stay here. Note: when staying at any ryokan, always be sure to arrive in time to check-in by 3pm. If you are running late, let them know as they are very punctual and are not keen on you arriving to check in after 3pm unless notified.

Ichinoyu katei. For shibu onsen and snow monkey”
I stayed two nights at this hotel. It is very nice inside, clean and quiet. The people who were managing it were very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. Some basic spoken English was understood but be prepared to do research Of the area before you get there if you want to get the most out of your stay. You might want to bring some nuts and dried fruits in case you need a snack, especially if new types of foods are an issue with your tastes. The dinner that was prepared for me was extremely well done. I wish I had taken a photo. There were a few tastes and textures that were a little new but overall I enjoyed the meal, ... I am quite set in what I like to eat. The hotel is about a 45 minute walk back from the monkey park and that is all downhill. I would not like walking there with the heavy camera gear I brought., I was offered a free ride in the shuttle which I gladly accepted. I leave with many fond memories.

Exceptional”
The lovely staff at this exceptional ryokan made our first trip to an onsen an absolute delight. With little of each others' languages between us, we nonetheless had everything explained to us, how to wear a yukata, and the etiquette of being a guest and how to use the hot baths. Wearing a yukata in the street on our way to the baths is a memory that will stay with us forever. We chose this ryokan because of its proximity to the Jigokudani Monkey Park and that was another wonderful experience - but the ryokan was definitely the highlight!

Comfort with a touch of class”
We chose to stay here for the location (close to all 9 onsens) and a bit of luxury. The ryokan has a touch of class (in the decor), and the meals are up there with the best of ryokan food (kai-seki cuisine) I've had. There is a ceratin air of formality, but actually, the owners and staff are warm and helpful, making you feel welcome. The public baths upstairs are very clean, and the cooling off area has breat views of the town and mountains beyond. A splendid stay!
