Great place!”
Excellent location. Easy fun walk to Gion and temples. Great washing machine and bathtub. *** Be careful there are 2 Plum residences one in Gion (E )and one near the train station (S)*** we got dropped off at the wrong one and were stranded late at night!

Best option in Kyoto for budget travelers”
It was complete and clean. Very easy coming in and checking out. I would recommend entire time

great location, easy access”
The space was more than my brother and I expected compared to other hotels we have gotten for a similar price in Tokyo. It had a little kitchen and a washer! At first it was confusing to figure out the heater but it became like a fun puzzle and using google translate, we figured it out. It was nice to have a code and not have to worry about losing a key. The location was close to many shrines and the old city and we easily walked almost everywhere nearby!

Very good”
The facilities and instructions to check in and check out were very straightforward. However, we had a JR pass and its very tricky to find transportation that only uses the JR pass. But if you dont have the JR pass this place us perfect! Warning though, they dont have elevators so if you have lots of luggage, its something to think about. It is very clean and had lots of usable amenities!

Self service room with all we needed, would stay again”
We enjoyed the setup at Japaning Hotel, fully self service to get into our room and do what we needed. The local area guide was also very handy. Although we were confused at first, because the reception area photos shown in the listing are from HQ not here, we assumed based on the photos that there was somewhere to leave our luggage securely, but there wasn’t. Due to the location being mostly unstaffed, we couldn’t ask anyone. Luckily our room had been cleaned already, so we’re able to drop our bags into our room and get on with our day. The off site staff were quick to answer emails, which meant we got answers we needed reasonably promptly. If we needed to leave our luggage there on the last day it would have been problematic, but thankfully we didn’t need to. To re-iterate the facilities in the room were great, we had everything we needed. A touch more cleaning generally would be nice, such as under the beds being very dusty, but the main areas were clean.

A laundry and kitchenette! ”
The beds were western, but the mattresses were rubbish for a full-sized human. Still better than sleeping on the floor. But the laundry in the room made it worthwhile. Good tourist info at reception, near food and transport.

Lovely place to stay”
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is very good you can go walk to gion yasaka shrine or shijo dori just a few minutes. There’s also a bus stop and subway station near the hotel. The room is big. I booked the family room for 4 people but i think its enough for 6 or more. I’m very recommend you to book this hotel if you go to kyoto

Excellent”
We liked the hotel. The room was big enough for 2 people. Ideally, there should have been 2 beds instead of 3 beds which made the place tight. The towels were the best we've had - super soft. We did not use the stove but used the laundry machine and kettle which were very useful. We would have preferred a shower curtain to be available instead of the TV screen for the bathtub. Toiletries were provided and good. The location was very good - not in the center of Kyoto but close enough to walk. We liked it that the subway station was close and we could buy some foodstuff at the market in which the hotel is situated. The provision of umbrellas helped for rainy days. We had to send a suitcase before arriving; it was not a problem. We also left our suitcases within the automated door after check-out. That was helpful. Overall it is a recommended hotel if you don't mind the lack of receptionists since entry codes are provided for self check-in.

Very good”
Its enough if you just want a place to sleep - we didn't use the kitchen portion as we felt that it could have been cleaner and more well-maintained. Some items in the room didn't work - some of the lamps were fried, the table leg would fall off if we accidentally kicked it. But overall, the sleeping area was clean, comfortable - this was enough for us. this aside, its in a really great location, with walking distance to many major attractions - we didn't take the public transport that much at all!

Full facilities, bad wifi”
The room is very spacious, with a closet. Toilet and show in separate cubicles. There's also a small kitchenette, with a microwave, refrigerator, stove, and washing machine, which we appreciated very much. The room also provides some basic cooking implements (pans, knife, chopping board) and dining utensils (plates, cups, forks, chopsticks). Our biggest issue was with the "free" wifi which was so erratic and weak as to be almost useless, even for basic surfing.

Convenient”
The hotel is inside a market. Once you exit the Higashiyama station, turn let and you'll see a covered alleyway (the market) and the hotel is located inside it. The room is very small, it squeezed one queen sized bed, and two super single beds. The bathroom is separated into 2, one for shower and the other is the modern toilet. There's a complete kitchen, fridge and washing machine. TV is in the bathroom which makes it even more unique and funny. The hotel is self service, you'll need to enter the password given just a few hours before check in (via email) to open the entrance door and room door. You must also check your email constantly for the room password since they only release it a few hours before you check in. As for my case, the email arrived at 2.45pm and the check in time is at 4pm. Sometimes emails get into the junk folder so be sure to check carefully. The front desk staff is invisible most of the time so you'll need to be independent.

Not bad, but far from great.”
Self check-in was nice and simple. WiFi did not work when we arrived. After a couple of phone calls to their customer service, they told us to just use the next door's WiFi (?), which was a bit weak and dropped out at times. Had a balcony with no view (tall frosted glass). No lifts on premises. 'No smoking' anywhere on the premises meant we had to walk about 5 minutes down the road to the nearest convenience store just for a cigarette. But that's just how Kyoto is, I guess.
