Great high end Ryokan”
If you can afford it, this is the place to go. Very few rooms, and you are pampered. Private dining room. Had the onsen al to myself. Never saw anyone else, except at the bar.

An experience that blows us away”
We had not done much research on accommodation in Otaru as it was a weekend and most of the hotel rooms were fully booked. We had not expected to stay in a Japanese room but we would like to give it a try since Kuramure Ryokan was among the few with a vacant room. It turned out to be a big surprise because the whole package of experience was well worth the price. From the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were greeted by friendly staff with great smile and welcome snacks along with a cup of green tea. Then a staff member led us to our room and patiently introduced all the features in the room, like the telephone hidden somewhere, amenities that can be taken away by guests, private hotspring... He then highlighted that all the drinks in the minibar, including beer, and the drinks at the bar are complimentary! Even our room was just a garden view Japanese room, it was simply yet fashionably designed. It was clean and comfortable. A girl was also sent to our room to make our beds before sleep. We were very impressed by the nice touch seen everywhere in the hotel. And we regretted arriving in the evening as we could have spent a whole day in there without going out. There is even a library with vinyl records that music fanatics would be obsessed with. The outdoor and indoor public hotsprings are also not to be missed. It takes only 20 minutes to drive to Otaru downtown.

Best onsen (hot spring) hotel in Otaru area”
Sorry for my late review, since we stayed there after our snowboarding in Niseko during last snow season, however, Kuramure is really a wonderful onsen hotel I would recommend to everyone ! It is a nice boutique hotel by a famous designer, every detail is well designed. We were staying at a Japanese + Western style room, which is nice decorated and surprisingly spacious with a living room, a Japanese room, a western bedroom and a private onsen tub! It is far more beyond the normal Japan hotel standard! The service and staffs are outstanding, we arrived Otaru-Chikko in the morning, sicne the room was not ready, they drove to train station to pick up our luggage, which was very helpful and considerate. The check-in was sweet, welcome green tea (Matcha) and lovely Japanese candies when you are waiting. The dining at Kuramure also worth to mention, Japanese dinner with seafood served in a private room ! and huge nice Japanese breakfast, wow ! Really love this hotel, and looking forward to staying there again !

Great Stay, unforgettable dinner!”
The ryokan is located outskirt of Otaru at the beautiful onsen area. The small stream next to the ryokan has spectacular view. The ryokan staff are super attentive and friendly. The in room onsen and public onsen are all very nice and private. The keiseiki dinner is the part that we enjoyed the most. Top quality cuisine and presentation! The room is average but we really pay for the cuisine, onsen and services. It is a once in a life time experience to have!

Excellent stay!”
Our stay at Kuramure Ryokan was awesome! Food was excellent, staff were exceptional and the service was impeccable! Location can be a tad quiet for some but that’s also the beauty of the place. Highly highly recommend this place! :)

Top Onsen Hotel for Vacation”
This is my second stay at Kuramure, one of best onsen resort in Hokkaido to relaxe yourself after snowboarding. Really decent design and big rooms, actually, should call them suites. I like the bar and library best, good collections of photo albums and comics. Will definitely come again! :-)

A true Japanese experience”
After 5 days at Niseko for skiing, we opted to spend a night in Otaru rather than head directly to Sapporo. The outdoor onsen was breathtaking overlooking a snow capped hill. Needless to say, it was useful to soothe sore and aching muscles. We also took the option for a Japanese dinner which was delicately prepared and served by the most courteous and attentive staff. Great for those wanting a Japanese experience.

Zen retreat”
Kuramure is a little hard to spot from the road as the sign is quite small and in Japanese. However, once we found the hotel we were delighted by the top notch customer service. Everyone at the hotel was very polite and went out of their way to offer assistance. The hot springs were clean and relaxing. Each meal was an extraordinary experience.

Architecturally very interesting. Edgy.”
One of the best luxury Ryokans I have stayed in. Beautifully designed property. Dinner was very good, breakfast could have been more imaginative. Staff very polite and helpful, but only one spoke reasonable English.

Excellent dinner and onsen”
Although this hotel is a little pricier than most around the area. Do consider that: -they serve a 8-10course dinner with dishes like foie gras, wagyu beef, hokkaido scallops. -they also provide breakfast -free open bar. Alcohol all you can drink. Bar closes at midnight. -shuttle service to the city -amazing public onsen with a view of the mountains.

Excellent”
Don’t worry about the location as they have free pick up and drop off service. Dinner and breakfast is provided and if you consider the food served, the price you pay is really value for money.
