Unique & Cosy Lovely Guesthouse”

We drove all the way from Monbetsu to this cosy little guesthouse with unique design. It was run by a husband & wife and their daughther. Dinner & Breakfast were authentic and nicely done. They were delicious. Best to have a car cause this lovely wooden guesthouse is in the middle of a quiet countryside.

Quiet rest ”

Hostel is set in the quiet countryside. Much greenery. Beautiful patch of flowers just beside the hostel. Room was spacious. Big area for dining and interaction if you want to be outside your room. Amenities - shared toilet and bath area (separated by gender)- clean. Mr K and his family were very hospitable. The meals prepared by them (I had dinner and breakfast) were delicious- Japanese meals. Also joined the unkai tour led by Mr K. Very lovely to see the sea of clouds- but need to start at 4am. Worthwhile trip. Note - unkai dependent on weather. Good to have your own transport- otherwise best to make arrangement. There are public buses -very few and seasonal- do check operational time and period of operation. We thank Mr K and his family for a very lovely stay.

Good stay”

Only managed to reach to the guesthouse when the sky is dark. Both of the owners cant speak English, however the dinner and breakfast provided is something special and you cant find at the hotel.

Overpriced with no much value”

Owner is okay, but seem not welcoming (maybe is the way he talk or behave, but this is the worst i have experienced among 6 other accommodation i have stayed with during this trip in hokkaido). The room has only one small fan for 4 person, which make the air circulation bad even with window open. Just not worth for the amount paid.

Not a very friendly host. ”

Lady at the reception was few with words and did not smile. Seems impatient to answer to my queries. The kitchen is downstairs so the smell of fried fish is everywhere. Our room has a heater which smells of kerosene.

Value for Money”

The guest house was better than I've imagined. The rooms are spacious and clean. However you'll need to share the bathroom with other guest house mates and the distance to the lake is probably not within walking distance. Nevertheless, my family and I still enjoyed staying there.

Very good”

The staff here were all very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed being here and the fact they picked me up from the station in the snow was great :) They also told me what was suitable to walk to in the snow. As a few other reviews have mentioned, there is only Japanese style washing facilities so a stay here means being comfortable washing in front of others (separated men's and women's). Also, there is an extra charge on arrival of 150 yen per day because of the onsen. This doesn't seem to be mentioned on agoda. I was also hoping that it would be possible to use the kitchen, this place is really in the middle of nowhere and has no vegetarian options on the menu so I was only able to eat what I had brought with me which didn't require cooking. I guess this wouldn't be a problem for those with a car or who eat meat/fish

Worth coming here just for the food...”

I could have easily spend a week here, but sadly could only schedule a few days. This area of Akan National Park has heaps to do - hiking, canoeing, fishing and onsens.It is very beautiful and totally chilled. The hostel is just as you would hope: clean, well appointed (with its own onsen), free Wifi. The best part was the evening meals where the the man for the couple who run the hostel cooks up a storm. Delicious traditional food for just 1300 yen! Don't miss it. If you are a nature lover seeking a refuge from the industrial madness of Japan this is your place.

Unique design, great breakfast. Bit musty/damp smelling”

Room was a bit musty smelling, but otherwise everything was great. Breakfast was fantastic, and the staff were really friendly and inclusive. We sat and had a drink together in the evening.

Good Hostel”

Rooms are located on level 2 and the shared bathroom is on level 1. Place is small but cosy. Meals are simple but nicely done and authentic. Recommend to stay if you are in the area.

Quaint and lovely place”

Warm friendly place where you could meet other travelers, yet private enough that you have own space. The kids loved the loft beds.

Great place with few small issues”

The house is beautiful. Located in the center of a national park, it is a great base fpr exploring Akan NP (but we had a car, not sure about piblic transport). We loved how the house has a big central room with views and the room was comfy. It had a very nice vibe. Bathrooms need some rennovations. One sink is not working, it was rather run down. The stairs to the first floor were a bit dusty and the room could have been a bit cleaner too. If you want to eat, book in advance. The owner is not very flexible with times for eating (even breakfast is toed to an one hour window). But overall it was a great stay.
