Best hotels & accommodations in Chiang Saen (Chiang Rai)

First of all the hotel is fantastic. One thing is for sure...the hotel is not located in Chiang Rai, Thailand. It is located in a small town called Chiang Saen (in English is Golden Triangle) and in the province of Chiang Rai, Thailand. When I reached the city of Chiang Rai, I was of the impression that the hotel was in Chiang Rai town but its not. Its another 10...

The hotel is situated directly at the Mae Kong river. The location is very quiet with a beautiful view on the river and on the serenic countryside in Laos. It is good to spend a day or 2 to relax and visit the ancient sites in Chiang Saen. There are no taxi's in Chiang Saen, but you can visit the interesting sites with a Tuk Tuk. Al less than 10 km from the hotel.

A nice friendly hotel in a convenient location on the MaeKhong. Large clean rooms with good views to the garden and river. A few items to note - the WiFi is variable (but that my have been temporary), breakfast is fine but relatively simple, parking is good and the access stairs to the lower levels (and pool) are quite steep. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. A...

This was a very lovely stay in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai. Serene at Chiang Rai is a 4.5 star resort and has an exceptional staff who are willing to assist their guests without issue. The only thing I feel that they could improve upon is the food - which was fairly average. However, if you look at the value for your money and you are really looking for top service at an o...

We did enjoy our stay here very much.and the price of the accomodation with breakfast was very reasonable for a hotel of this type..If money is no object then you will Love this hotel however if you are on a tight budget then forget it.. Elephant activities are much more expensive than anywhere else in Thailand although they are undoubtedly much better looked after tha...

not just Mekong river for Chiang Saen, but here the legendary lake!!, if you don’t like the busy crowded hotel in town near the river, here is a small serene resort for relaxing run by a lovely family, take the resort bike (free of charge) and cycling around the lake either in the morning or evening is the must, the family cooked meal and atmosphere made me feel like b...

We were looking for a tranquil, secluded spot in a natural setting, set well back from the road but with convenient access to the local town, Sob Ruak. GML met this expectation perfectly, and along with courteous and efficient staff, personally served breakfast and a clean and secure room in a duplex cottage, we were delighted with our 3 night stay. GML do need to spen...

This family run hotel is at best location with many good riverside restaurants just opposite the street. The rooms are big and very clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. You can choose Thai or ABF served outdoor in a nice garden. I always stay at this hotel when in Chiang Saen and never had anything to complain. Can highly recommend.

we are group of 5 and booked for the first night. Hotel was nice and clean, walking distance to some night market along the river. We got good information and transport arrangement from the short hair lady Manager and we decided to stay additional one more night instead of moving elsewhere. Language barrier from ground staff is there but the lady manager make it up for...

We were stayed here only 1night but the we will come back for next holiday. We have booked the family room which the space was bigger as they have two bed room and suitable family travelers. The view of our room was fantastic and good river view even the small hotel but the room decoration style was modern.

I would definitely stay at Buakum Riverside the next time I visit Thailand's Golden Triangle! My room on the 3rd floor was spotlessly clean and had a great view of the lights on the Laos side at night. The price was great value for money. Minuses: No internet access in room, only Hotspot capability. Also, I was under the impression that this hotel is located in the tow...

This hotel is right in the heart of the Golden Triangle, around 12km from Chiang Saen. I was driving and visiting various sites wasn't a problem. However, apart form the closest attractions such as the Golden Triangle viewpoint and temple and the Opium Museum, which were walkable, anyone wanting to go into Chiang Saen or further would have to take a taxi or tour. Wh...

The hotel in general is just fine, centrally located, water boiler and coffee as well as fridge and water provided. The only drawback in my opinion is that I have never slept on a harder mattress. This is pretty normal for Thailand, but a deal breaker for me.

Perfect place to be surrounded by very lovely & helpful owners ! Big, clean & comfortable room as well as the bathroom with hot water, soap, shampoo & toilet paper. A fridge & free bottles of water are also waiting in your room. Free breakfast & bicycles are a part of this great & recommendable stay !

we only stayed one night, which is enough to explore the Chiang Saen attractions. The hotel is perfectly ok. It is simple and Clean. Staff is friendly but do not speak English. Breakfast is ok with a plate of fried eggs and sausages. Coffe, tea and toast is also avialable.

We had a relaxing two day stay there, pottering around the town on bikes and eating out down by the river. Chiang San is a laid back little town and the Goldenland was a good base to explore from as it is based near the old walls and temples. Only a two minute drive from the river restaurants.

Location: My mom and I booked this resort because it's near the Golden Triangle viewpoint and the ferry. We didn't drive a car. Therefore, we had to walk about 500m from the road into the avenue (Thai word: 'soi'). Even though the premise is within a walking distance to an ancient temple, it wasn't spooky. It's a cozy garden with bungalows. Staff: The staffs were fr...

Goldenland II hotel was a nice hotel but now seems to have past it's Prime. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was very nice and glad to see us. I don't think they'd had any customers for a while. We were the only customers the weekend before Christmas. Little English is spoken here. BUT the location is poor Just 30 meters off of a very busy hiway with lots o...

I absolutely loved the tented camp. The guests ranged from Older couples to a well behaved swiss family of 6 and several honeymooning couples.Everyone was blown away by the elephants the food the spa and the best Thai hospitality you will ever experience.I cant wait to get back.My partner forgot her contact lenses, two hours later there were some in our room, forgot the b...

Compared to the rest of the lodging options I looked at in the area, this was the best value for the price. Great location close to the central area of Chiang Saen. The owner helped me with renting a motorbike from a local shop. Free coffee and tea, and she had some free bananas available, as well. Would stay again.

Traveler impressions of Chiang Saen (Chiang Rai)
Slow area and nightlife, and very touristy around the golden triangle, but scenic and quiet and quite lovely overall
In my opinion, Chiangsan is a beautiful old town. There has own unique architecture and absolutely amazing one history.
we enjoyed the White Temple, Chiang Rai Mall, Golden Buddha, boat ride to Laos, Mae Sai and crossing the border, Opium Museum
Ideal location to visit neighbouring countries of laos, burma and china. The river khlong has an interesting story of how a giant statue of the buddha is inside the river and laos also has a claim to it.
See old historical temples. See locals, sample local food and learn about the drug trade. Across the river in Laos one can gamble in the casino.
this is a good place for study mix culture of 3 country,Thailand Burma & Lao ,very interesting location & view
Golden Triangle is a very quiet city. No shopping after 7pm. It was like a ghost town at night, but somehow this makes it really attractive.
If you go to Chiang Saen, you must visit the Hall of Opium. I learnt a great deal about the life of Thais at the Golden Triangle back then and the Opium War.
It used to be easy to cross over to Laos and visit the King Romans' casino but that has changed (Nov.
There are some really interesting aspects to this area. The Maekhong River, the nearby mountains & the history make this a very good place for a cultural visit.
Golden Triangle allows you to have 3 countries at your fingertips. "Three countries in one day" tour is a must as you have the chance to experience Thailand, Burma and Laos in one day.
Great base for access to Laos and sightseeing. Laos border control/VISA at Chiang Khong/Huay Xai is 61KM away 1.
burma/myanmar shopping treat. need to go inland to see anything cultural of burma or laos. little in chiang saen than 3 country/history golden triangle.
