Find Hotels in Chiang Saen (Chiang Rai), Thailand

First of all the hotel is fantastic. One thing is for sure...the hotel is not located in Chiang Rai, Thailand. It is located in a small town called Chiang Saen (in English is Golden Triangle) and in the province of Chiang Rai, Thailand. When I reached the city of Chiang Rai, I was of the impression that the hotel was in Chiang Rai town but its not. Its another 100KM from Chiang Rai town in the smaller town off Chiang Saen.

A nice friendly hotel in a convenient location on the MaeKhong. Large clean rooms with good views to the garden and river. A few items to note - the WiFi is variable (but that my have been temporary), breakfast is fine but relatively simple, parking is good and the access stairs to the lower levels (and pool) are quite steep. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. A good choice in Chiang Saen.

This was a very lovely stay in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai. Serene at Chiang Rai is a 4.5 star resort and has an exceptional staff who are willing to assist their guests without issue. The only thing I feel that they could improve upon is the food - which was fairly average. However, if you look at the value for your money and you are really looking for top service at an outstanding price then, really, look no further. Serene at Chiang Rai is your best option!

We did enjoy our stay here very much.and the price of the accomodation with breakfast was very reasonable for a hotel of this type..If money is no object then you will Love this hotel however if you are on a tight budget then forget it.. Elephant activities are much more expensive than anywhere else in Thailand although they are undoubtedly much better looked after than many we saw on our trip.. The cheapest bottle of wine was £30 (Monsoon valley Thai red wine) It was very nice though! The Spa I thought was also very expensive a massage was double the price I pay at home..We got around this by eating out a few times and buying some beers and Thai rice whisky (Oh my God!!) from the Seven eleven store in Chiang Saen for evening drinks on the balcony!! Or laying in the enormous Marble bath!! Its a great place for two or three days chill out but we couldnt have afforded a week there :-( Lovely staff and good food in a Beautiful setting!!

not just Mekong river for Chiang Saen, but here the legendary lake!!, if you don’t like the busy crowded hotel in town near the river, here is a small serene resort for relaxing run by a lovely family, take the resort bike (free of charge) and cycling around the lake either in the morning or evening is the must, the family cooked meal and atmosphere made me feel like being home Location: **** 1 km.+ off Highway 1016 (Mae Chan- Chiang Saen), near Nhong Bong Khai non-hunting area headquarter, easily accessible by private car or taxi Universal design: ** accessible by a wheelchair with a helper in most area, many steps more than 10 cm. high in front of most rooms, no disabled toilets and parking Cleanness: **** the resort ground, the rooms, dining room, and toilet are all at standard cleanness with a good maintenance Safety: **** the main resort gate is closed during the night, better to inform the owner if you want to go out quite early in the morning or be back lat

We were looking for a tranquil, secluded spot in a natural setting, set well back from the road but with convenient access to the local town, Sob Ruak. GML met this expectation perfectly, and along with courteous and efficient staff, personally served breakfast and a clean and secure room in a duplex cottage, we were delighted with our 3 night stay. GML do need to spend some money on the run down appearance of the buildings (a new coat of paint would do the trick) and upgrade the uncomfortable beds. We will come again on our next retreat!

we are group of 5 and booked for the first night. Hotel was nice and clean, walking distance to some night market along the river. We got good information and transport arrangement from the short hair lady Manager and we decided to stay additional one more night instead of moving elsewhere. Language barrier from ground staff is there but the lady manager make it up for the team! Well done!

I would definitely stay at Buakum Riverside the next time I visit Thailand's Golden Triangle! My room on the 3rd floor was spotlessly clean and had a great view of the lights on the Laos side at night. The price was great value for money. Minuses: No internet access in room, only Hotspot capability. Also, I was under the impression that this hotel is located in the town of Chiang Saen, but it is actually 10 km. away in Wiang in the Golden Triangle -- this fact needs to be made clearer in the hotel description.

This hotel is right in the heart of the Golden Triangle, around 12km from Chiang Saen. I was driving and visiting various sites wasn't a problem. However, apart form the closest attractions such as the Golden Triangle viewpoint and temple and the Opium Museum, which were walkable, anyone wanting to go into Chiang Saen or further would have to take a taxi or tour. When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly, english-speaking receptionist who checked me in quickly and efficiently. The first room, a double, was big, airy and clean with a balcony overlooking the front of the hotel. However, the bed was very hard and I requested a move to a room with a softer bed which was accommodated but the new room was not as nice and not as well lit. It was adequate however and quiet enough at night. The bathroom was basic and there were no toiletries provided which surprised me. Not even soap. There was also only one towel provided. Few hotels in this class in Northern Thailand provide a room safe and this was no exception. On the first day my room was not cleaned or the bed made up until I requested them to be done when I arrived back in the evening. There was breakfast included in the rate but it was poor and the service slow. It consisted of cold eggs, yoghurt and toast. There was no proper tea and I provided my own tea bags. The food at night in the restaurant was better and the staff great, but the menu was limited with no desserts avalailable. To be fair, I did try other restaurants in the area and they were similarly uninspiring. As a brief stop over place, this hotel would be okay as long as you didn't expect western standards. (It is very far north Thailand after all) and there are better htels for the same price. However, if you intend staying longer than a couple of days then I'd maybe look elsewhere. It's a shame really because the actual hotel and staff are fine. It was the service that let it down as far as I was concerned.

Location: My mom and I booked this resort because it's near the Golden Triangle viewpoint and the ferry. We didn't drive a car. Therefore, we had to walk about 500m from the road into the avenue (Thai word: 'soi'). Even though the premise is within a walking distance to an ancient temple, it wasn't spooky. It's a cozy garden with bungalows. Staff: The staffs were friendly. They greeted us with smiles and spent some time chitchatting. They even offered a ride to-fro the resort. Facilities: There were basic amenities. We brought our own toiletries. So, we just used the mini soap bar there. Cleanliness: The room was big. There were two beds. We found 2 used towels in the closet. And my mom saw a strand of hair on the bedsheet. The bathroom was clean and had no odor. Price: As it was a low season, the current-day price dropped 20% from the price we paid (checked on Agoda). Tips: There's a yummy mala bbq place near the avenue entrance. There's no 7-eleven around this market.

Goldenland II hotel was a nice hotel but now seems to have past it's Prime. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was very nice and glad to see us. I don't think they'd had any customers for a while. We were the only customers the weekend before Christmas. Little English is spoken here. BUT the location is poor Just 30 meters off of a very busy hiway with lots of big trucks. The Balcony over looked lovely grounds but had no furniture, Beds are very hard. We were booked for one night supposedly including Breakfast, which turned out to be tea/coffee and 3 packs of crackers. These are fine rooms for Baht but poor value for 1200 Baht the Agoda rate.

I absolutely loved the tented camp.The guests ranged from Older couples to a well behaved swiss family of 6 and several honeymooning couples.Everyone was blown away by the elephants the food the spa and the best Thai hospitality you will ever experience.I cant wait to get back.My partner forgot her contact lenses,two hours later there were some in our room,forgot the battery charger for a two day old fuji film camera (they had one) and on and on it goes.The staff ratio during our stay was 1 guest 8 staff so you are very very well looked after.It is expensive but everything is included,mini bar one spa treatment per person,tours, clothes and shoes for mahout training etc etc.I am scheming how to get back there.
