For a one night stay, it’s a comfortable one with basic but clean facilities to use. Great that there’s a laundromat 2-min walk away, and about 6-min walk to and from Matsumoto station.

Everything is just basic, including a bed and shared bathroom. The boss was very nice and gave useful advice about the city.

Better stay in a capsule hotel”

Even though it’s close to the Matsumoto Station, the facility is very basic, and the sliding door leading to the lavatory creates a very annoying noise. Terrible restaurants in the area. I would prefer staying in a capsule hotel, as there’s more privacy and better facilities.

Definitely not excellent ”

Do not understand how people rated this place so high. The only advantage it has is Brian, the hostel's owner, who is sweet and very helpful. Otherwise, bunk beds means sleeping in the middle of the room on a futon, noise from the railway and the road never stops and it's very loud, only two showers for much over populated room, kitchen was dirty (washed my dishes before and after eating). Indeed, it's 4 minutes from the train station. actually considered spending more money and move a hostel after 1 night.

The hostel is only few minutes away from jr matsumoto station. It’s also near the top attractions of the area. The owner of the hostel is very helpful if you ever want to go hiking in the area.

The owner is so kind and caring! He sits with you go through things and he wants you to have the best time. Bed was fine for a night and the other guests also staying were even better! Great place.

Great location. Wonderful staff. They basically provide you everything you will need when travelling, except a TV. They have a kitchen with everything, a little living room and a tiny garden. Just remember, this is a youth hostel converted from a small Japanese residential house. Please do not expect brand new, sparkly, fancy stuff. Like, elevator? No. Modern, shiny showers? No. They are shower stalls and they are clean. Imagine shower stalls in public swimming pool. Dorm rooms? They are small, and you will sleep on traditional Japanese tatami floor. You will be sharing space with other travellers without privacy curtains. But I loved it. People I met here are awesome. Sleeping on tatami and sharing the room with others felt like a slumber party.

People who greeted me were friendly, easy to talk to. I arrived Friday late night around 1030 pm and left 500 am for hiking, so didn't hang out too long, but the place was clean and happy for the price I paid especially in Japan

My stay with Matsumoto Back Packers was for just one night, it's short and sweet. Just 5-min away from the train station and bus terminal connecting to major cities around. The hostel itself provides every basic thing you'd need, while the hosts were so friendly and helpful to provide you with travelling tips. P.S. first time to stay with a hostel with futon/ in tatami style, a very Japanese experience

Stay was only one night because I booked last minute and there was no availability after my 1st night, the location was easily found and walking distance from the train station, the owner was mostly friendly and helpful. The hostel has a very homely and welcoming feeling, it was clean and very comfortable
