Great value and wonderful ”
Wow, I am so happy and impressed by this ryokan! Initially I was worried about it being a little bit out of the way from the Hakone loop and the fact that it was the cheapest compared to other ryokans in the area gave me low expectations for this place. However, I was traveling with a lot of family and needed to find an affordable place and Mount View Hakone fit the bill. Although the rooms look a little bit dated, they were clean. The staff, the food, and the onsen were all superb and worth well over the cost we paid. Everyone was friendly and patient with my big group. Because we checked in late, most of the good times for the private onsen were already booked but the staff made accommodations so that we could have dinner a little earlier in order to make the time that was available. My 20 month son was able to enjoy wearing a traditional yukata and they allowed me to bring him into the onsen with us as well! We had a very happy stay here and we would not hesitate to come back!

Fabulous stay!”
I was in the Superior Twin Room and loved it. It was even nicer (and bigger) than it looks in the photos. The claw foot bath was great (it has a shower over it which was a welcome surprise). FYI, there are no photos but there is a separate toilet (with all the bells and whistles - heated seat etc). The bed was comfy, there were mini bar choices of drinks, a little sit-down mirror area (that you can't see in the photos - opposite the couch) and all the features you'd expect with some really lovely touches. My room had gorgeous wallpaper that really gave the room a lift too. All the staff were lovely and I thought it was a perfect location for the Hakone area - not as steep as Gora, bus stops each way right outside the door, a great little gyoza restaurant if you don't eat every night at the hotel, a nearby Lawson, easy walk to the Little Prince Museum, Venetian Glass museum and my personal favourite (for free), the Choanji Temple. Thanks so much Mount View Hakone!! :)

Helpful staff and clean room”
Mount View Hakone’s location was good with buses nearby going to gora, togendai and yumoto Hakone Station. We were a bit confused by the routes and the timing though on the first day but managed to figure it out after that. There were also English and Chinese speaking staff at Mount View Hakone which makes it easier to ask for direction and communicate with them with regards to our needs. All of the staff that attended to us were very helpful even though some of them does not speak English Nor Chinese. The room was clean Our tatami were also made up for us comfortably when we went for our dinner. We also booked a private onsen during our stay and the view from the onsen was amazing. Last but not least, I would really like to compliment on the meal that was served to us. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, it was also very delicious. I stayed two nights and was really looking forward to the meal times every day. Well done Mount View Hakone! And if I had the chance to Com

Very nice”
Had the chance to go to 2 different ryokans in Hakone. Pros of Mount View Hakone : the food is excellent (in a dining room), the location is right next to the bus. The onsen is nice. You can reserve a private onsen for 2000-3000 Yen which I highly recommend. Cons : the meal is in a dining room and not in your room (if you're looking for that traditional meal in your own room, maybe this will not suit you). Even though the location is right next to a bus stop, it is hard to carry luggage. The bus that brings you there is very small (it depends of what time you travel, when there's a lot of people, bringing luggage by bus is a hassle). I would definitely recommend this. Especially for the food and I highly recommend reserving (early) a private onsen.

Totally worth it!”
If your going to Japan, splurge in Hakone for the Mount View. Totally worth it! The rooms are classical Ryokan and the dinner included is a feast! Private rooms for Japanese hot baths excellent for couples. And the staff are very helpful. Bus service stops just outside the hotel to tour Hakone itself. Loved it!

Affordable traditional Japanese ryokan”
Mount View Hakone was a great Ryokan experience without the hefty price tag. The rooms were clean, the onsen was hot and the staff were wonderful. I definitely recommend including breakfast with your accommodation to really take advantage of the whole experience.

Clean place & accommodating staff”
It was a great ryokan experience. Staff were very accommodating to the point that they gave us a map where we could eat dinner since we did not reserve a spot for the “kaiseki” meal. They made sure that we get everything we need and know the necessary info about the hotel. They even called me the day before our check in to confirm something. The room was wide for 3 people. It was neat and clean. I wanted to stay there longer but I had limited time back then. The location was great. It was peaceful. There’s also grocery store and convenience stores nearby. This is my first experience staying in a hotel in Japan. Now, Mount View Ryokan is my standard every time I stay in a Japanese style hotel. ;)

A Highlight of our two weeks in Japan!”
Everything was wonderful and exceeded our expectations! The outstanding dinner, the friendly and helpful staff people, the beautiful rooms and facilities, the totally relaxing baths.......Just a fantastic ryokan experience for us! At check in, we opted for the private bath for an added (reasonable) fee, and are so glad we did. Our bath area looked out on a bamboo forest. Magical! Highly recommend Mountain View Hakone Ryokan and would go back in a heartbeat!!!

Wonderful wonderful wonderful”
Can’t thank the staff at Mount View Hakone enough for such a wonderful stay! They are so helpful and friendly, even taking you up to your room on arrival and explaining everything. The dinner and breakfast are well worth getting! So delicious and a really special experience. I used a private onsen and was really lovely way to end the day after so much walking and sightseeing in Hakone. I will definitely be back to experience this again and explore this beautiful area further. どうもありがとうございました

Great hot spring experience”
We very much enjoyed our stay at Mount View. It was easy to get there from Tokyo as our bus stopped right in front of the hotel. We enjoyed the big, elaborate meals, wearing Yukata (traditional robes) to our meals and around the hotel, and of course, the hot springs. It was frustrating that we had to pay extra to have a private hot spring (we were on our honeymoon and wanted to go to the hot spring together), but I understand that it also probably goes to keeping the place nicer and cleaner. The paddles at the table tennis table were falling apart and the table was too, plus the lobby area smelled like smoke, which is gross considering you are in the mountains for fresh, clean air in the first place. We loved the foreigner guide to etiquette for the hot spring: itt was comical but smart. (i.e. please don't wash your clothes in the hot springs). After the big meal and going into the onsen (hot springs) we slept so well on our giant pallets they made us on the floor. It was great to stay in a traditional Japanese style room and have a cultural experience. The bathroom in the room could have been nicer, but it didn't really matter since we barely spent any time in the room other than to sleep. It was very convenient the next morning to hop on another bus and go to the Open Air Museum, which we loved. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, as was the waitstaff at our meals and also the woman who took us to our room and showed us around our room. We had a lovely experience at this hotel and in Hakone.

Nigori-yu onsen”
The hightlight of this hotel is nigori-yu milky white hot spring which is not always available in the other ryokans at the same price. The accommodation is small and is far from other big stations in hakone, but thats the charm! You do not want to be in a crowded place when you are staying for leisure, right? Dinner was amazing. I was envy that my neighbouring table got a crab instead of sashimi because they cannot eat raw fishes, but to my surprise, I had a crab soup for my breakfast which I love so much! My only disappointment is that my mountain view was blocked by the building. However it is still beautiful place to stay. If you are new to ryokans it is definitely recommended.

A traditional way to spend the night”
We made a good choice with the location of this hotel. The local bus stops outside the hotel in the Hakone area. The simple Ryokan room was really nice - we spent just one night here. Sleeping on the cosy looking beds on the floor was an experience but we paid for it the next day with stiff joints and bad backs. The hotel had a really nice Onsen instead of shower facilities in the room. We didn’t eat here - but be warned we went out looking for dinner at 8.15 and what few restaurants there were nearby had already stopped serving - the hotel restaurant closed early too. The area was dead by 9pm. Thankfully we found a basic place nearby for the locals where they were kind enough to serve us a bowl of ramen. This is definitely a place to enjoy the Japanese countryside in between your bigger cities tour of the country. Be sure to pick up a free map of the area from the tourist information office across the road from the Hakone Yamuto train station. It was invaluable.

Exceptional”
The hospitality was first class from the person waiting outside the ryokan to greet me and take me to my room and dress me in a yukata and prepare tea with a sweet. They also went the extra mile to locate and post a necklace I’d misplaced to my next address in Tokyo. Lots of great sights to see on the way up from Hakone Yumoto station, lots of local places to eat nearby and the private and communal Onsen was really great for relaxing in. If you are an Onsen first-timer you can book a private Onsen or get up early before 7 and maybe have the bigger communal Onsen to yourself if you are shy. Very comfortable and stylish room. I could have stayed a second night but if you only have one night to spend in the Hakone region then this place is fabulous..

Great ryokan experience”
The ryokan is great and offers a traditional Japanese experience. You get tea and sweets when you enter the room, and there are yukatas (Japanese-style robes) for you to wear during your stay. The dinner is composed of many small dishes, with a main dish cooked on the middle of the table. Breakfast was also traditional so expect a different experience from your average western breakfast. The onsen facilities were also great, although it didn't smell like sulphur so I guess it wasn't a real hot spring. The ryokan is conveniently located near bus stops to both Hakone-Yumoto station and Gotemba station for a trip to Fuji's five lakes.

Fantastic Ryokan Experience”
Was absolutely blown away with this Ryokan experience! Arrived in Hakone early in the morning from Tokyo and we were able to check in our bags at the hotel before the assigned check in time of 3pm. Great and friendly staff, and they were able to converse in English very well. Check in and check out was extremely smooth, and they were even kind enough to upgrade our room to the superior twin suite. Such a pleasant surprise and it made our visit all the more memorable and worthwhile. The private onsen experience is a must and worth every penny! Really don't have any cons for this hotel. Their service and facilities absolutely blew us away and we both wished we could have stayed in the hotel for a few more days. Everything at this hotel was amazing, from the onsen facilities, to the food and sleeping areas. We will most definitely be back!

Very enjoyable stay!!”
The staff was friendly and very helpful answering any questions I had. They spoke good English and helped me coordinate bus ride times. The food was amazing! It wasn't the traditional ryokan where you stay in someone's house but the food was very similar. You get robes in each room like a ryokan so that was good enough for me. Location is very close to a bus stop but further away from majority of the tourist places in Hakone. The room and amenities were very clean. Only stayed a night here so I wish I stayed longer!!

Price are worth it”
I have booking triple room with half board service. Even though the price are expensive for me but is worth it. Dinner ala kaiseki are very delicious and luxury. We can using yukata in Ryokan. We were greeted by a very patient older lady taught us how to use the yukata. Room is big for 3 people and clean. We try a private onsen. Overall we are very satisfied and do not regret having stayed there. If one day we come back to hakone, we want to stay here again

Awesome ryokan, even better experience”
Extremely exceptional ryokan. Super glad I chose this one. As the service and care from the staff was phenomenal. Location is a bit far from Hakone-Yumoto station (still right next to one of the bus stops on the Hakone loop just an hour away). The food they served was so amazing and was such a great immersion into classic Japanese cuisine. The onsen was amazing as well - extremely warm but soothing experience that is available for a very long period of time.

Remember to book your private onsen early!”
I really enjoyed my stay at Mount View Hakone. The staff were friendly and helpful, they also speak multiple languages (English, Chinese, etc.). They only have 3 private onsen per day and they get sold out really fast (we had to book ours at 11.15pm). Location wise, quite high up in the mountain - about an hour by bus from Odawara/Hakone Yumoto, but affordable if you get the Hakone free pass and cater sufficient time to travel.

Superb Breakfast with great services”
The hotel is Ryokan service style with public onsen bath, no bath/shower in the room. I did not expect the public bath and had to pay extra for private onsen. The breakfast were grade and great!! The hotel provided different set for each day of stay (I stayed there for 2 nights). The hotel is right at Hakone Lalique-Bijutsukan bus-stop, and opposite to Lalique Musuem, or it can be reached from Sengoku-annaijo-mae or Museum of little prince bus-stops within walking distance.
