Amazing”

I had an absolutely wonderful time here. The staff are the kindest and friendliest people I’ve ever met. The onsen was relaxing and the rooms were beautifully decorated. If you want to stay in a traditional Ryokan stay here. It’s in a great location. Walking distance from the train station and the castle with lots of food options nearby. Staying here made Kanazawa my favorite place in japan.

Great Experience of staying at Japanese style hotel in Kanazawa”

good location, near main tourist spots and bus stops. The staffs at hotel are very friendly, considerate, and helpful. It's heart-warming to hear "お帰り" and take a Japanese bath after a long day. Rooms and common areas are clean and tidy. I will definitely choose to stay here again when I visit Kanazawa next time.

Excellent Ryokan”

Clean, friendly staff (english spoken), close to major attractions and great restaurants around.

A nice ryokan, no luxury, just honest and good, very good. Staff was great, cleanliness is top notch, perfect wifi (much better than at my hotel at ultra fancy Ginza, Tokyo). Shared bathroom with a Ofuru (hot bath), the normal japanese style (if you ever been to an onsen or sento, you know what I mean, and if you didn't, well, you should try... ;) Didn't have breakfast or dinner there, so I gave the average score If I go back to Kanazawa (and I will) I'll stay there again for sure.

Basic accommodation in a fantastic position”

Close to major attractions and the centre of the city, also close to transport.

There was some really bad 'press' about this traditional ryokan that luckily we took no notice of. We like the traditional ryokans and their quirkiness. The proprietors greeted us warmly and did wash the base of our suitcases -to get the dirt off. Our bags were carried up the quite steep stairs and placed in our room - there was no issue with having them on the tatami mats. There is no en-suite bathroom. In the hallway are two long basing that are used for hand and face washing - I also used these for shaving - however the mirror was behind me - so what. They have new toilet facilities on this level and I rarely encountered other guests - albeit this was not their busy period-but saying that there were more than several pairs of guests judging by the number of pairs of shoes at the door. The bathing facilities were great - we are a couple in our mid sixties and have experienced public bathing in Japan - again "when in Rome" -The baths were small but OK - sort of what one expects in a small ryokan! - We tended to use the baths later in the evening and this is maybe why we each had the respective baths to ourselves. The ryokan is so centrally located it is an easy walk to the major attractions - we stayed two nights and enjoyed a small breakfast in the dining room. This ryokan is not for prissy types. We have travelled extensively in Japan and this was our second trip. Ryokans vary quite a bit but the experience in each one is worth the having. If you want a great place to stay that doesn't have all the creature comforts but is in a great location this is the place. The place is clean and does not smell - Our visit was late March 2014 so this report is very up to date. I hope this dispels any concerns other travellers might have about this place.

Japanese-style inn for Japanese and foreigners ”

Convenient; comfortable; quiet

Murataya is very straight forward and pleasant. It lacks internet, but otherwise has nearly everything someone travelling inexpensively. Excellent Japanese-style bedding and a lovely bath in the evening (by morning, the bath is luke-warm, but the shower is available). The surrounding area has numerous and excellent restaurant, nightlife and shopping. Kanazawa seafood! Close to the castle and Kenrokuen Garden. Can't comment on food at the inn; did not eat at the inn.

Great traditional inn”

The location is in the downtown area of Kanazawa, so shopping malls, food joints and convenience stores are only a few minutes walk away. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and speak English well. The rooms are traditional, clean and well-maintained The toilets look quite new. The showers are located in a communal bath space -- this is to be expected at a Japanese traditional inn -- so privacy could be an issue. The inn does allow you to lock the bath door for privacy but if the inn is busy you may need to shower very late or very early in the day.

Murataya was a lovely place to stay. Perfect location for me wanting to see specific museums and such. You step inside and it's very peaceful. The owners were incredibly kind. Japanese breakfast was delicious! Everything was clean and comfortable - very warm on a cold winter night. The tiny ofuro bath was perfect. And there were so many homey details throughout the place.
