A recovering stay for my cycling trip around Lake Biwa”
The room is spacious for 2-3 persons (small family) and nice view from the balcony inside the room to the park outside, altho I stayed in the lower floor. Clean and tidy as well. Like other typical Japanese onsen/hot spring hotels, all basic facilities are provided with high quality. The location is not close to the train station, but they provide free shuttle bus service on request, and I have my own bicycle, so I am fine to cycle to the restaurants / supermarkets / drug store within 10 mins. For the price of <$900 HKD including the Japanese style breakfast (weekday price), this is a great deal!

Very good”
It’s an old hot spring hotel with sufficient space for two people. However, not an international environment, lack of English staff. No private shower room and we must use public bathroom and hot spring pool which we did not know when we booked. That’s fine for us. Yet, ¥600 hot spring tax were charged when we checked out. Even we showed the receipt from Agoda, including tax and fees, they claimed every one paid this tax. We did pay it after all. The hotel did take us to train station. Overall, it’s not a bad choice, however, with that kind of price, we would pick other hotel nearby next time.

No tattoo in the public bath”
Check in is at 3pm - yes, they will pick you up in Ogoto Spa stop but they won’t be able to let check you in until 3pm - there’s a foot spa place up the block for you to hang out while waiting. There is nothing to do around the area, we were there for a night only - enough time to rest up and then dinner and sleep then breakfast. That’s it. BTW, they don’t allow people with tattoo to use the public bath - if you pay USD 50 for a private use, then you can use it even with tattoo. My room has a bath, so I didn’t really have to worry about that.

Honeymoon”
We had a wonderful cultural experience at Ogoto Spa. We were married in Thailand and this was the beginning of our honeymoon in Japan. The staff were fabulous and the Ryokan very authentic... We loved it.

Excellant Stay Experience!”
Due to my course of travel, i check in late at night and to my pleasant surprise there are nos of designated staffs and manager standby there to greet us and service us to make sure we have a smooth and comfortable check in. They even help us to lay all tatami beddings. Next wonderful experience is the indoor and outdoor onsen which open till midnight so we still get to enjoy and relax. All furnishings, facilities and cleaniness is of very good condition and we feel very comfortable with the ryokan throughout our stay. The only drawback is there is without a private shower in our room. The next morning we are having a very wonderful breakfast, as well as how the staffs serve us for the breakfast. We truly love the place and will definitely recommend to others!

Excellent Ryokan!”
Good ryokan that met all of my basic expectation - dinner in the room, decent onsen (though without a view). The greatest thing about this ryokan is that it is quite close to Kyoto (20 mins train ride away), with a pick-up service to ryokan.

time and money well spent”
Very pleasant. The ryokan catered to our needs. Made a lovely vegetarian breakfast for us, along with children cutlery and furikake for our child. Also, helped warm milk when needed. In addition, provided him with a yukata and anpanman slippers. With him feeling special, made it all the more relaxing for us.

Great stay!”
The ryokan was wonderful! Everything was well taken care of and staff made us felt like we were home. The breakfast was really good, and our rooms had a view of Lake Biwa.

Excellent hotel than I expected”
Excellent hot spring hotel, better than I expected. Very polite staffs, who rejected for tips. Very nice Japanese dinner with around 12 dishes, the staff would introduce each dish for you. Nice private hot spring inside the room, and the room is very clean. Good location, with 30 minutes JR train to Kyoto station, and free shuttle car on demand for each visitor, u can make a phone call to the hotel by using the telephone outside the JR station. And the shuttle car will arrive in 10 minutes, unlike many other hotel, need to follow there shuttle bus timetable. One more things I like is, i dont see any foreigners in the hotel and outside the streets, all Japanese people~ If u wanna visit a hot spring hotel that local people may visit, i think this one is good for you.

Splendid Stay Away From The City”
If you don't mind going out of your way and getting away from the city plus spending a bit more, this place is recommended. There was a long wait at Ogotoonsen Station since we were using JR Passes and the station was understaffed when we arrived. However, once you get through the gates you can call (payphone for 20 yen just outside station) the hotel for a shuttle bus, which somewhat makes up for the wait. The hotel staff is super polite. The room was very pleasant and spacious (we had the room with private bath), although we had a bit of trouble adjusting the water temperature - either cold or boiling. We eventually got it right and the hot bath was very relaxing. There was some noise while taking the private bath as it's open air, which some might mind, but there are bamboos and a wall separating the bath from the street. The bedding and pillows were very comfortable so there was no trouble falling asleep.

Huge Disappointment”
I hate to be so negative, but it was my 6th accommodation in Japan and it disappointed, though all the others were superb, just so you know i'm not a consistently critical reviewer. The ryokan is on a busy street and there are only 2 non-smoking rooms, both on that side - so it ruined the zen-ness to hear cars whooshing by. Plus, the "mountain" view is way over to the side - instead you see the busy street! I was offered a Lake-side room... but for 2000 Yen extra - which i felt wasn't fair given the false advertising. But i was willing to do it... til i noticed ashtrays and smelled smoke traces... and was told it was a smoking room (there was also a huge metal pet cage they were removing - a bit offputting). The onsen itself had great water and was nice - though pretty minimal for a destination onsen Last breakfast is at 8:30am!! a bit early for a vacation! They didn't set up the futon til my masseuse came in and needed it... She (Fujiwara) was amazing! the highlight of my trip. Just incredible. Perhaps the biggest problem was that the staff wasn't able to communicate in English. VERY frustrating. I know i should be able to speak Japanese, but i don't and many of the guests are not Japanese speakers... I do not recommend this place, unfortunately.

Ryokan Experience”
The hotel is located on the main road toward lake Biwa. The room is nice, some has lake view, some offer limited view. The mattress is comfortable. But you might have to check whether your room has shower/bath in your room or not, otherwise you have to use public bath. The breakfast is nice too.

Ichiban!”
This place is absolutely the best place to stay on Kyoto! Free shuttle to the nearest stations and back, extremely friendly service and if you get the banquets for dinner, you will be astonished as to how succulent, fresh and tasty!! My first time using an Onsen and has a bath inside and outside, as well as a private Onsen of the roof top! Amazing view from up there overseeing the lake, 10/10!

Perfect”
we arrived quite late at night but the receptionist waited and picked us up at the station. Service was excellent. Breakfast was simple yet a very different experience for foreigner. Didn't have a chance to try out the outdoor bath, which looks really good. Location is not as central as others that we stayed but still worth the experience.
