Great ryokan experience!”
This was my first time in a ryokan, and I thought the whole experience was wonderful. I was looking for a traditional inn, with tatami mats and yakuta robes, and Onsen Hotel Gorakan really delivered. The best part is the private onsen time that is included in your stay. The one downside is that the toilet is far from your room. If you don't speak Japanese, then it is probably helpful to know a little bit about ryokans beforehand, as not much is explained otherwise. Everything was clean and well kept. The staff was super nice and friendly. The meals were a fixed menu and were delicious and quite sizable--we were stuffed! You eat in the dining room but have your own table. Be sure to be punctual--one of the staff banged on our door when we were a couple minutes late! :) I probably wouldn't do many nights, just because I like to be able to nap and make my own schedule, but the location is great--partway through the Hakone loop, so you don't have to do the whole loop at once.

Authentic Ryokan Experience with Super Food”
Take the underpass on the right of Gora Station just as you exit. And Onsen Gorakan is a minute walk away. You may only get your room 3pm onwards but the staff was very accommodating. Staff very kindly offered to look after my luggage early morning before check in so I can go explore Hakone comfortably. Dinner will be promptly served either at 6 or 6.30pm (you decide upon check in) You'll be in for a treat. Meticulously prepared food, not less than any high end restaurant out there. For the price we pay, value is ridiculously good. Shower is traditionally communal. Each room gets 40mins to use its private room onsen bath. Highly recommended.

Wonderful experience”
If you are looking for a true onsen ryokan experience, this is the right place. We booked the room with breakfast and dinner provided, japanese cuisine includes some raw fish. You can also book the private onsen or use the public onsen which is open 24 hours. Please do respect the property and the owners, lower down your volume. Get the Hakone 2 or 3 days pass if you will be travelling around as it includes the various transportation provided near the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again if we are in Hakone.

Exceptional”
This place is great, I highly recommend it! Dinner starts at either 6 or 6:30pm. They will let you know when you check-in. Most things in the area close around 4-5 so don't feel like you'll be missing out by having to return to the hotel. Breakfast is 8am. The food will be served in the dining hall, not your room. While you eat, the staff will take out and put away your futons, so you don't have to deal with all of that stuff. You are allowed a 40min private onsen which you can schedule when you check in. You will need a key which you will get from the reception. Please be aware this isn't necessarily strict. My friend and I reserved a 8:30pm time slot; however, the people before us were late to dinner and their bath time so our slot got pushed back to 9. The location is also excellent as it's in the middle of everything in Hakone and by the station. You'll leave the station, turn right and go down the underpass tunnel. Turn left and head up the hill. It's the yellow building!

Great place to relax and be taken care of”
This hotel is about 3 minutes walk away from Gora station so it is very convenient if you are planning to do the Hakone loop. The food is delicious and the staff is very helpful. There is not much to do around the hotel at night, so we just bought some beers and snacks from a vending machine and chilled out in our rooms after dinner. There are two private onsens and a male and female public onsen. The staff do not speak much English but you can get by with very basic Japanese phrases, hand gestures and Google Translate.

Marvelous host and meals ”
1. Kyoko san from Gora Kan will answer all the questions in fluent written English. 2. kaiseki-ryōri during our stay are very tasty and very traditional. 3. Love the private bath and onsen (hot spring). 4. All the hosts and staffs are very nice and friendly, they keep in mind all the needs the guests have, and will provide different meal courses during your stay. 5. Very near Gora Station. 6. It is a traditional Ryokan with stairs, advice-able to travel light and use baggage delivery service from Hakone-Yumoto. 7. If one can speak some Japanese, it will be much easier to communicate with them and enjoy more of traditional Japanese style onsen ryokan. Will love to go back!

Very nice onsen hotel at a good location”
The food here in Onsen Hotel Gorakan is great. I would like to recommend include Kaiseki dinner and Breakfast on your plan. The food is superb and delicious. The hotel is located within 3 minute distance from Gora station. Furthermore the onsen here is amazing. Staffs were friendly and always there to help customers. I would like to come back here again next time.

Exceptional”
The accomodation is near Gora station, however, it is at the other side of the station (if you a dragging a luggage, you may need to walk a bigger loop, or be prepared to carry the luggage up and down some stairs for the shortcut). Every guest room is entitled to a private onsen (1 x only). Service was also excellent. As we arrived before check-in time, we left our baggage at the reception while we toured Hakone. Upon returning, our baggage was already brought to the room. During dinner, the staff also helped lay out the futon. Food wise was delectable, although it would be better if there was an English "menu" to know what we were having. The staff knows limited spoken English though, but it did not deter them from providing the best service as possible.

A wonderful experience!”
This stay was a great value for money! The two very kind and pleasant ladies who ran this inn prepared a wonderful course dinner and breakfast, and it was extremely nice that we got to experience a private onsen at no additional charge. This place is also conveniently located 2 mins walk away from Gora Station, from which you can take the Tozan Train directly to Hakone Yumoto Station. This is a great choice if you'd like to experience traditional japanese food and room at a more affordable cost, and I will highly recommend anyone to visit it!

Excellent”
Nice place to stay in Hakone Gora area. The location was excellent - you can easily walk to the Gora station, as well as a few shops and the Hakone Open Air Museum. Staff did not speak much English, but were still very accommodating. The meals were really unique and carefully prepared and presented. Rooms were clean and spacious, and the onsen was a highlight!

Very convenient location, 300m from Gora station”
This is a small cozy onsen ryokan, very convenient location. From gora station, take the underpass below the station, turn left and walk about 100m slight upslope. The ryokan strictly receives guests after 3pm, place is locked and no one answers prior. There are lockers (big & small) or luggage deposits at the station, so quite easy. Bus stops are right in front of the station information center. Ask for bus map and booklet with timetable at the Odakyu Hakone counter.

Great experience”
Stayed for one night while spending 2 days in hakone area. Great introduction to the Japanese experience and culture. We arrived early and got straight into the room which was great. Food was very well prepared and presented. Staff very friendly. Private and shared onsen available. The private onsen was extremely hot verging on piping hot! Apart from this we had a great stay and an ideal location for time in this area.

Indoor onsen(public) and outdoor onsen(private)were fairly good. Booking the private onsen is requested where you need the key to enter.

Lovely traditional onsen ryokan ”
Very personable stay here in Hakone and very well looked after. A very filling dinner (beautifully created!) and breakfast in Japanese kaiseki style. Bonus here was the private open air onsen that we got to use for an hour. Great place, would come here again.

Great Hospitality”
Hakone is a beautiful place, but getting some proper food can be challenging. Luckily we went for the dinner option at the hotel and the food served was nothing short of master chef standard, beautifully plated and tasted great too. Rooms were clean, and the service were very thoughtful as well. Highly recommended for a one night stay.

excellent service with extraodinary dinner and breakfast available”
We stayed for one night for hot spring and two meals. We didn't expect to have such an exquisite fine dining and breakfast served by very welcoming Japanese staffs. The people are very thoughtful and passionate who are very willing to adhere to our needs. There are public and private hot springs and you can make a reservation for hot springs when you check in. You can also leave the baggage there for free upon arrival and departure. The location is also very well situated; it's just next to the Gora station, which means you can take the tram and train very conveniently. It's also close to the Gora Park, which is definitely a very nice place indeed. The place is larger than we expected (we are family of 4 and we lived quite comfortably, not a small place as it mentioned.) It's also very clean and tidy as expected. If we are visiting Hakone again, we will definitely stay here again!

Doing their best”
Considering it was the aftermath of typhoon Hagibis, these ladies did a wonderful job. The highlight was the Kaiseki dinner which the presentation equaled the exquisite taste. Keep in mind they will lay your bedding while at the meal service. Breakfast also amazing for those like me with a taste for Japanese cuisine. Chose the private bath with my SO while other family members used the public bath. I think the staff was so busy, they forgot to let me know the water temperature was not adequate. The public side was better. Location a stone's throw from Gora station with many shops nearby. With the ropeway, railway, and lake boats out of operation we could not really sightsee much but we did get a small break from weather to view Gora park. Would love to return and be able to enjoy the full Hakone experience.
