Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa (SHA Plus+)
Pakarang,Khao Lak - View on map
"I stayed at Apsaras toward the end of the quiet season and where other resorts close their beach bars, restaurants etc, Apsaras were still fully open. The real winner with this resort is the staff. They are so friendly and always on hand to help. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurants have a good selection of food from traditional Thai to Western dishes. The menu's were also very well priced. The prices happily compared to the local restaurants in Khao Lak but the food was of a far better quality. If your looking for a relaxing resort on the West coast of Thailand then this is your place. I will return for sure."

Fanari Khaolak Resort - Courtyard Zone
Bang Niang Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"We stayed for 9 nights, our room was very spacious and clean. You can tell the hotel has been revamped recently, but they put a lot of effort in it. Our room was in the main building, facing the pool and featuring a large balcony with additional racks to hang wet clothes and towels (pool/beach towels were provided). Breakfast was simple, but enough and tasty (mix of continental and local thai/asian food). The hotel is located near the beach (second row), and within easy reach of restaurants, bars, massage parlors, a pharmacy and a doctor. There's a local market 3 days a week, and local taxis are readily available near the hotel with the destination prices clearly written on a board. If you want a pre-organized tour to visit any island or national park or go elephant riding, you can chose from a multitude of providers (since there are mostly German couples in Khao Lak most tours can optionally be booked with a German speaking guide). If want to explore on your own there are plenty of places to rent scooters from. If taking a taxi from Phuket Airport I suggest to pre-book one online (one-way ~1,200THB, max 3 ppl), it proved easier and way cheaper than trying to get one upon arrival."

The Sands Khao Lak by Katathani Resort (SHA Plus+)
Nang Tong Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"Location of Khao Lak is a bit out of the way - it is about 100 kms to the north (on the mainland) from Phuket Airport. Currently taxi operators charge around 1600 baht to get you to Khao Lak. Return trip is 2000 baht ex the hotel. The resort itself is at the end of the "strip" of shops/restaurants etc. that make up the township of Khao Lak, and is well signposted. We hired a car at the Phuket airport which was just the thing for our personal circumstances. Khao Lak was fairly easy to get to once we put on Google Maps, and road was very good (excellent). Plenty of parking is available at the hotel for hire cars etc. Check in was easy and quick, before a drive in their cart to our room with our luggage (and us). We were very pleased with our room, which was a Junior Suite with access to pool, lovely way to relax on the deck of the pool/room. Room is very airy and light and very clean and there was always complimentary water supplied - staff do a great job here, although one negative was that the couch in the room was not all that comfortable - it is also very low to the ground. Bed and pillow were really comfortable and suited us. The grounds are huge, and very well maintained, couldn't fault anything here at all. Plenty of activities for guests to do both inside and outside. There are a few areas of children, each one seems to cater for a different age group - and seem to be always staffed. There is a separate "joy" pool for children, which has slippery slide into the pool etc. The gym is one of the best equipped gyms I have ever come across in any of the hotels we have stayed in throughout Asia. It seems to have multiples of just about anything you would find in any working gym. At the end of the property is the beach area. The hotel has built a retaining wall fro the beach to the grassed area of the property. Many guests enjoy the walk along the beach when the tide is out. Many relaxing outdoor beds are provided for guests also all along the wall/bea"

Seaview Resort Khao Lak (SHA Extra Plus)
Nang Tong Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"We took a normal double room and we got upgraded to a pool villa and it was so nice! The room was full of little details and it was just awesome to have a pool only for us... Altough jacuzzi in the pool was "broken" (or they were just too lazy to turned it on). The bathroom is huge, full of light, there is a bath and two showers: an indoor and an outdoor one, which is in a private garden with very tall walls around. We went there during low season so we could't enjoy most of the activities provided by the resort, like the pool bar, the activities in the gym, etc, but we have to say the the resort is really stunning. You can park in the resort carpark and never move the car again. The resort start from the beach and reach the main road: from our villa it was closer to walk to the main road than to walk to the car park! When we checked in and out the staff came to pick us up with a golf cart so we didn't have to walk far with the luggage. As every resort in Thailand, the food is nice but the reastaurant is really overpriced (like everything in Khao Lak) so it's better to avoid it and eat outside. There are a dozen restaurants just outside the hotel, on the main road, much cheaper."

The Waters Khao Lak by Katathani Resort (SHA Plus+)
Bang Niang Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"I picked up this hotel because it looked stylish and it did stands true to its reputation. Finding the true entrance at the back of the hotel is a little tricky for taxi coming from outside Khao Lak but it's only a matter of asking. The location is great, close to restaurants and a 5 mins walk to the beach. The rooms are spacious and with a large balcony. There is a glass partition between bathroom and bedroom. However should you choose not to share everything with your partner, there is a pull down curtain we discovered the second day for your privacy..... I found the rooms downstairs looking a little dark despite the private pool at the front. For some reasons some rooms on the right side of two of the buildings look directly into the wall of the next building. Not great planning. The gym on the roof top with view of the coast line could be great if it was better equipped but the hotel is only new I suppose. I must also mention the nice breakfast in the front restaurant and the wellness centre where I had a very good massage with Mai. The staff was very helpful and lying by the pool next to the wet bar is a very good location to be in Khao Lak."

JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa SHA Plus +
Khuk Khak Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"This is a wonderful resort in Khao Lak. They really did a good job with this place. The wrap around pool is amazing. The room was spacious and nicely appointed with teak floors and attractive art. The king sized bed was comfortable with oversized pillows. The staff really does a great job attending to any need, with smiles aplenty. Unfortunately it rained two of the three days we were there so we weren't able to fully enjoy our stay. Minor quibbles: the restaurants here are expensive and not particularly noteworthy. Save your money and go to "The Andaman", which sits just off the beach if you head to the right after hitting the beach. Also, the wifi signal was weak in the room. However, this is a problem we found in all of our hotels throughout Thailand with the exception of our bungalow in Ko Phi Phi. All in all, however, this is a magnificent place with great service. "

Ramada Resort by Wyndham Khao Lak (SHA Extra Plus)
Bang Niang Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"If you are looking for a great place in southern Thailand on the beach, with lots of shopping and dining within walking distance, great service and free internet in your room, your search is over. The Ramada in Khao Lak is definately a paradise in paradise. We stayed four days and wish it had been longer. Guest services are directed masterfully by Phoy who is fluent in five and a half languages, including english and german. He has a passion for service and teaching language so accordingly, most of the staff are very good at both and very attentive. The morning brunch buffet included in your room rate is exceptional. Fine dining at Sassi's restaurant is wonderful, but just a little expensive for Thailand. (One note, it was the only place in Thailand we had five meals served to us at the same time instead of one person being done eating before the last meal was served.) Great food is available on the beach within 50 meters of the resort. Also on the beach are one hour massages for 300 bhat that were outstanding. Lots of shopping and restaurants are available in walking distance. Not far from the resort is the The Green Pepper, a great restauant run by a couple of Swedish guys. It is close and wonderful. The resort's infinity pool just off the beach is large, warm and has a great swim up bar. The resort has lot's of comfortable beach chairs with umbrellas. The beach is wide and staff start a volleyball game every night about 5:00 p.m. The game is fun and you can play regardless of skill level. You can also book many activities at the resort. (Tip, you can find the same trips in town, cheaper if you search a little.) The rooms are very nice with beds more comfortable than we found in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. If we ever return to Thailand, we will definately come back to the Ramada. Before booking, I read posts complaining about the ocean view and a Thai couple that received poor service. It's true many of the rooms face the courtyard and pool rather than "

Khaolak Bhandari Resort & Spa (SHA Extra Plus)
Nang Tong Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"We were here in the off season. It is not crowded. Just right for those seeking peace. Price performance is great. The resort is in a good location. Right on the beach and only 5 minutes walk to city life. The rooms are not worn as some describe it. It is a normal wear. For us one of the most beautiful resort in Khao Lak. We will definitely be back. Thanks to the entire Bhandari Resort Team."

Graceland Khaolak Beach Resort (SHA Plus+)
Bangsak Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"All the staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. The facilities for our children were fantastic especially having several pools that weren't too deep. Buffet breakfast was amazing. The only thing was that it was about 20 minutes from Khao Lak centre which meant a taxi ride there and back every time you wanted to go to town. We got an amazing deal through Agoda so the travel to and from the town centre was worth the savings we made. Wiuld definitely recommend to other families looking to holiday in Khao Lak."

Beyond Resort Khaolak (SHA Extra Plus)
Bangsak Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"i have been to khao lak in the high season and wanted to experience it in the wet (low) season. the low season, and agoda's great deal, meant that staying at a luxury resort was affordable for me. the villa room(s) was fantastic very spacious and comfortable. i like to stay out of town where its less crowded but i have a car in thailand so transport is not an issue for me. the resort is about 12 kms north of town and i believe the resort provides three shuttles per day to and from town. the resort was built post tsunami so the trees have not fully established yet, the gardens while not too bad, will get better and better with time. the swimming pools are great although the illusion meant to be created by a horizon pool of the pool water blending into the sea is lost because four pam trees have been planted between the pool and the ocean, nota big deal but i'm sure it would not have been part of the architects design. the staff and services are wonderful. breakfast is fantastic as were the meals at the restaurant (resort prices of course). for me the off season deal represented value for money however i would personally not pay the high season prices, i just don't pay those prices anywhere in thailand in the high season."
