Great location for Upper East Side”
Needed an upper East side location and this was perfect. Not luxurious but just what we needed. Two full size (maybe Queen) beds in a good size room. Microwave and fridge. Bathroom not huge but big enough and clean. Air conditioner worked great. Very close to 96th subway station. Staff was friendly. Would like to have had coffeemaker in room but they had coffee available downstairs and bananas. I would stay again if we need a hotel in this location.

Good basic hotel”
The Newton was just as expected and did not disappoint. it is a basic hotel and a bit dated but the room was clean and the place was quiet enough. You do have to pay a resort fee which includes mineral water to the rooms, the use of WIFI, fruits and coffee in the lobby. the fee is too high for what you get. this was mentioned in other reviews so i was aware of it when i came in. All in all this is a fine hotel depends on how much you pay for it at the time. was great for me for a single night just until the family joined and we moved to a different hotel. enjoyed my stay

Practical & Convenient ”
Hotel in Newton is very neat, half a block from the Broadway subway, 20 blocks from Columbia University, right next-door to a large pharmacy store, not too far from markets and other conveniences. The rooms are small but they have everything you would need: plenty of lights, small refrigerator, microwave, a safe, lovely soap and shampoo and lotion, towels are large and absorbent, plenty of hot water, air conditioning and a large TV if you want to watch it. Ask for a room facing the back.

Noise and smell”
1. Constant emergency vehicle noise and traffic noise. 2. A/C is quite old and noisy. 3. uncomfortable pet smell coming from A/C circulating into the room. 4. Having an iron board would help. Only iron was in the room.

Great location. Right price”
It's not a thing of beauty and it doesn't have a splashy entrance but if you're a practical traveler it's a great deal. Has a diner to one side and a pharmacy to the other. Subway is half a block away. It's a residential non touristy side where the prices are reasonable for NY. The bed was ok. The bathroom shower was difficult but overall I do recommend for the right price.

Pros: - location (steps from a subway station) - mini fridge and microwave in room Cons: - Very uncomfortable bed - Extremely small and dated room - Loud AC - Despite not requesting any accessibility accommodations we were placed in an accessible room which had a disgusting bathroom floor. You have to stand on the floor to shower and the water gets everywhere so the whole bathroom floor stays wet for hours after as well.

Clean, safe, and great hotel staff ”
I was looking forward to writing this review! We had a great stay. My husband and I (and our 5 month old baby) stayed here. The room was quiet and impressively clean. We love that it had a fridge and microwave, too. The staff at the front desk were so kind and helpful- one night, the man at the front desk let us borrow his personal umbrella so we could run and get ice cream during a rain storm. The lobby also had complimentary cookies and bananas and coffee and tea. The location was great with quick easy access to the subway and plenty of restaurants nearby. We will definitely stay here next time we come, and will recommend it to friends!

Okay for the price”
The room was clean, but had a musty odor and the hotel had only instant coffee available in the morning. It was fine, but we won’t return.

Hotel stuff was the rudest person I have seen”
I should have read those low score reviews before booking this hotel. The room I booked was listed as 200 sqft, but it definitely was much smaller than it claimed - it looked like a small cell with a window on a strange spot. Bed was the most uncomfortable and it squirks and moves every time you make a tiny movement. Most of all, the front desk is the rudest meanest person I ever met. Stay AWAY from this hotel if you can.

Hotel was very clean but very dated. Definitely in need of new mattresses and cooling system. Our AC had a mind of its own and would change settings and shut off randomly. In their defense renovations were being done. Location was great for the subway. Some awesome restaurants nearby.

Basic hotel in a great location”
A friend recommended Hotel Newton and I'm really glad she did. It suited my needs perfectly. The decor is definitely dated and the rooms would be happy with a refresh, but the location was fantastic and the cost hard to beat. The desk and cleaning staff were very nice and helpful. There is a decent diner right next door, and the subway stop is directly across the street. I was attending an event at Columbia and was perfectly situated, and the trip up from Penn station took only 10 minutes. Recommended.

Resort fee for nothing ”
Charged for extra resort fee but there is basically nothing in the hotel, I can’t even get bottle water at night, and the people in front desk are always in the bad mood.
