Find Ryokans in Kanazawa, Japan

..the best udon-soba at the best prices, catering to locals. A couple of old timer chefs cook the udon-soba in huge boilers washing them in nets that could hold a ton. Tempura is fresh fried per order! Friendly staff...I'm no fan of sitting at the counter but not here! Geisha and samurai district...fair.

There's not really so much to see here. The (famous) modern art museum is lame but the gardens nearby are worth a visit.

And Kanazawa castle and Kenrokuen was also within walking distance from the market , so managed to see all the interesting places. There is a volunteer guide group available at the Kanazawa JR station.

The Castle is awesome, and the history of the area has been well preserved and respected. Put it in the itinerary!

Its a good alternative for those who have been to Kyoto previously. We stayed 4 nights and felt rushed to include everything. Kanazawa is around 50 minutes by bus from UNESCO Heritage Shirakawago. Kanazawa has a beautiful garden called Kenrokuen Garden and also an extensive castle. There are chaya districts to visit - but I do recommend that if you visit the Higashi Chaya District first - then make sure you buy your souvenirs here first - as this area offers the most extensive and wondrous range. I also recommend visiting the Shima Geisha house and at least one tea and sweet house if you visit here. Allow 4-5 hours minimum for this district. There is also the 'samurai' element in Kanazawa - so those interested in this culture will find a dedicated district of samurai houses - in the Naga-machi Buke Yashiki District. In this area the Nomura Samurai Family Residence - is a must see. Whilst in Kanazawa we also visited the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art - which had very decent art on display, pottery kilns, golf leaf production factory, a Noh museum and so on. If you love art and culture, don't miss Kanazawa.

I went to the Kanazawa Noh Museum - quite small, and I was the only patron at the time. Two lovely older ladies quite insisted on my dressing up in the Noh traditional theater costumes (with the Noh mask) and used my camera to take some photos - sweet! I enjoyed the city's cultural attractions, including Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, and especially the Prefectural Museum of Art. RESTAURANT TIP: a fixed price (1680 yen) at the DRAGON restaurant, which unfortunately does not have an English sign, that included soup/salad/main course/dessert AND your choice of drink, including wine/beer.

The people dance together on the streets, very amazing, nice and incredible! They can dance together simultaneously and with same movements! From young until older people, they dance together without any hesitate! I also have seen few tourist or Caucasian people dancing also, they work in the embassy. I also had about half an hour join the dancing, and this was an unforgettable experience! I hope I could join this festival again someday with my family. Arigato gozaimasta!

So much to see and do. Three days was not enough. It was easy to get around, great public transport, lots of very clean public conveniences, a terrific range of shopping possibilities and eating out. I would ,vow to go back at another time of year. W visited in summer which was comfortable, not too hot or humid but as the gardens and city scape are stunning it would be worth visiting in spring ( for all the cherry blossom) or autumn for the colour.

The gardens are lovely and there seem to be little gems that we didn't even get to, such as the 'ninja house' and samurai quarter.

I really enjoy the calm and big space in the castle and garden. Lastly we took a slow walk toward theHigashi District which i strongly recommend as the cherry blossom and the bridge really was a good photographic spot.

It's bigger than you might think though and it was worth going by taxi from the station to the main attractions, though there there are probably buses costing less.

We liked the Prefectural Museum of Art and its beautiful exhibition and collection (small). It has a lovely museum store and coffee shop. The station is an architecture showcase

The people is so nice and helpful. The transportation is very conveneince. Plus, there are many places to go for shopping and buy some souveniers.

we spent 2 nights there, and it is enough to see most of it. we came at the sakura blossoms time and it was a lovely experience. although samurai used to inhabit the place, don't expect to see many swords at the places that you visit

Must do side-visit from Kanazawa: Kaga onsen and Shirakawago

From Kanazawa its also very worth to visit Shirakawago (a UNESCO's world heritage), accessible by bus around 1.5 hours.
