Good Value in Colaba”

The Sea Palace is in a very good location in the Colaba district of Mumbai. Warning it is a very long cab ride from airport. The hotel is older with a slow elevator but the staff is wonderful and the hotel is safe and clean. Mumbai hotels are some of the most expensive in India so for the area this is a good deal. I would stay again.

Sea Palace is not a 5 star hotel, but it never claimed to be, so don't expect gaming rooms and gyms etc. For a mid-range hotel it represents excellent value. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We were staying on the sea facing side, so had a lovely view as the sun rose each morning. Air-con worked fine and all basic necessities were provided. We did not have any issues with mosquitoes or any other insects. The highlight of the hotel was probably the restaurant downstairs. The food is slightly more expensive compared with eating outside, but every dish we ordered was VERY tasty and the prices are within reason. Buffet breakfast was different each day, and there was enough variety to keep my wife and I happy. They also have a rooftop bar, where we sat to watch the new years fireworks at Gateway of India. We stayed there in January 2014 and they were renovating probably half of the rooms in the whole hotel, so should be some updated rooms for anyone staying there in the near future.

Good Hotel in expensive Colaba”

Hotels in Mumbai are expensive relative to the rest of India. The Sea Palace has a great location and very good staff. They did not clean my room one day and I had to request new towels and shampoo. They no longer serve alcohol so the rooftop bar only sells expensive mocktails. There was construction going on in the main stairway at very odd hours. When you add everything up it works out to be three star with Mumbai prices.

Great location sea front and behind shopping stret”

We were staying at hotel sea palace to get a taste of south mumbai the touristy part of mumbai. The hotel is well located about one block from the taj mahal palace and gateway of india. Also the street behind is a shoppers street.

Great location in Mumbai”

The Sea Palace was ok to stay at, but seems pricey for an average experience. Breakfast included was pretty good. Mumbai in general was more expensive than the rest of India, and we had booked Sea Palace especially because of the roof top bar, what we didn't know was that we were in Mumbai at election time and Mumbai operates dry days, no joy at the bar. Also be careful we got advice from the staff, several different staff that a taxi to the airport would be 1 hour, it may well be one hour so long as you are not travelling at peak traffic.

Comfortable stay in great location”

From our arrival late at night to check out in the early morning, the staff at the Sea Palace were attentive and helpful. The Indian breakfast every morning was varied and delicious, but bigger cups and nicer coffee would make a pleasanter start to the day. Our room was spacious, with a view to the sea, walls could do with a lick of paint, and fluffier towels would much improve our initial impression. One thing that amazes me about all hotels in India is the lack of nice teas, when it is a major gourmet export and huge seller at all the tourist shops.Its one of the things the country is famous for, so caterers blend teabags in our room made me sad. A handful of lovely local tea bags please! A memo to guests explaining housekeeping required you to drop off the key to reception if you wished your room cleaned, would have been helpful. The restaurant on the roof required better lighting if you wished to read the menu, ( we needed to use our cellphones to see) but food was delicious.

Enjoyable stay - great location!”

We stayed in a newer a/c room (no view)that was small, but clean & comfortable. We had our laundry done there; pricey, but the clothes came back clean & nicely folded. The staff were friendly & welcoming. The food at the restaurant was always good, but also pricey. Sea Palace Hotel is located on the stand close to Gateway of India, Elephanta ferry, CST, Fort/University/Rajabai Clock Tower areas, shopping & restaurants. We enjoyed our stay, had a very nice experience & would highly recommend Sea Palace.

Overall this is a good choice”

For us this is a good bet in Mumbai. It is not the cheapest place but then it is hard to get a lower price in Mumbai, in comparison to other places in India. We have been twice now. The rooms are spacious and clean and will serviced. The staff are professional and the breakfast (included in the price) is very good. It is in a great location in Colaba, looking out to the harbour. The food in the restaurant is very good though expensive in comparison to eating outside the hotel. We did have one small issue with the prices quoted in the room service menu being different to the current prices - there is supposed to be a new menu but these were not provided and there was really a lack of responsibility in relation to who should be managing this (the hotel or restaurant), either way the price of my soda had tripled so be careful as a meal could cost you a lot more than you think. Trying to suggest that changing the menus now was taken as 'getting angry' but I think that might just be a cultural difference in relation to providing feedback. Either way, we would definitely stay again, we enjoyed both times, the place has a nice feel.

Great location, nice rooms”

This is a nice beach side hotel with very nice rooms and atmosphere. The view from the deluxe rooms is beautiful, overlooking the beach, sailboats and the harbour. It's close to the Gateway of India and everything else in Colaba and is an ideal place to start and end walking tours of the area. The hotel top floor restaurant is nice, but expensive. I guess you pay for the views. The room was clean as a whistle, with nice furnishings and amenities. Definitely a place to consider for your stay in Mumbai.

Excellent location and ambience”

Although one of the busiest streets in Mumbai, Colaba Causeway, is just 5 minutes away from the hotel, the hotel is situated in front of the ocean, at the corner, and in a quiet and calm atmosphere. All the hotel staffs we interacted with were nice and kind. The room was comfortable and clean with minimum amenities and towels, and which is eco-friendly and so I appreciate it! Thanks to the ocean view and the comfortable sofa, I could enjoy reading a book at the window. Even with limited items, the room service is available for 24 hours; the food was great - it's authentic Indian food but unlike restaurants, it wasn't oily but delicious. You may want to try the rooftop cafe in the evening - the price is a bit expensive, but it's a nice night view.

Value for Money”

It was a pleasant stay at Sea Palace Hotel. I had one conference at Taj Palace Mumbai and this hotel was just 4 minutes of walk from Taj. The view of the sea from room's window was awesome.

Great location”

The Sea Palace is in a great location only yards away from The Gateway of India and the famous Taj Palace Hotel. Beautiful sunrises with the light shimmering on the water and the boats bobbing around. If you opt for the more expensive sea facing rooms, you can wake to the view. A huge benefit is the small outside dining area to the front of the hotel. There is a rooftop restaurant, open in the evening, but it currently does not have a drinks licence. The standard of cleanliness is very good and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is adequate, if not very imaginative, and served in the ground floor dining room. The area of Colaba is a pleasant mix of attractive residential properties, shops and eating places. Very few places serve alcohol. The famous Colaba Causeway comes alive in the evenings with shops and street stall open until late. It takes around 1 hour on the new toll road to the international airport. All In all,a good mid-range hotel in a good position, in a very pleasant area

Sea Facing Property near Radio Club”

Stayed 2 nights here. easy to navigate to this location with 2 landmarks on either side - Gateway of India/Taj Hotel and Radio Club. found the neighborhood interesting with many colonial style bungalows. No welcome drink (as mentioned in my offer). comfortable bed and compact washroom. senior person at front desk night shift had to be reminded for internet access (although this is provided upon arrival). Restaurant staff was attentive and helpful. Breakfast offering was fair and adequate. Safe neighborhood. Will consider staying here again if visiting this side of Mumbai.

Very comfortable stay...highly recommended”

The hotel is always my first choice for stay in mumbai. The location is excellent and the hotel offers good value for money. The view of gateway of india, indian ocean and radio club from your room are breathtaking. The famous colaba causeway for shopping and iconic restaurants is walking distance from the hotel.

Great location & food but be careful...”

The location is great and the price very reasonable. The room is average and the WIFI did not work when I was there. They told me the server has broken down and could not tell me when it would be running (if ever?). The food in the restaurant is great. I love the biryani there. It does look like the restaurant had received great reviews from my local newspapers and magazines. The rooftop bar also has a great view of Mumbai Bay. Apart from the wifi, there is one incident I am unhappy about. I asked the reception where the nearest mobile company service shop so that I can buy a SIM card for internet surfing. They sent me a seemingly helpful staff who brought me to a small booth amongst the shops a few hundred meters away which also sell sweets and miscellaneous stuff. I kept telling them I wanted to go to a proper mobile company but the staff insisted this booth could do the same. The shopkeeper opened a SIM packaging even before telling me the price and kept telling me this SIM can be used for the internet (though it was obvious to me that they have no idea how that could work). And his staff then ring the mobile co to activate the card. At that point, I asked the price and was quoted 1500 rupees, which is about US$29. I protested it was too expensive and wanted to abort the deal. Most SIM cards anywhere in the world cost 1/3 or 1/4 the price. They then claimed they have already activated the card and wanted to retain photocopies of my passport and visa. It was just so unpleasant. Eventually they agreed to take only 500 rupees but fortunately they failed to activate the card and had to return the money and photocopies to me. Later I walked into a mobile co shop myself and paid 500 rupees for a SIM plus activate the 3G surfing function by paying some additional amount (which I doubt the earlier booth people could do for me). The whole experience was unpleasant. I bet the hotel staff would have shared the extra 1000 rupees with the booth people.

Wonderful quiet location in the center of Colaba”

I would definitely stay at the Sea Palace Hotel again. The location was perfect, being in the center of Colaba. The Executive Deluxe rooms are well kept. And be sure to check out the rooftop bar view.

comfortable and much better than expected”

Having read mixed reviews of Sea Palace I was expecting very little. In fact, the hotel is very pleasant and, in my opinion, underrated. I was given an upgrade to a sea-facing room on my first night, and enjoyed the view and people-watching on the esplanade so much that I elected to pay more and keep the room for my ten nights here during the Kala Ghoda festival. The room had evidently been partly renovated, and bed was comfortable, bathroom acceptable, size of room bigger than expected, and position surprisingly quiet (the aircon noise at night probably blocked much of the sound). Other guests were friendly and I met several people over breakfast, which is available either in the dining room or on the small shaded garden terrace. Breakfast is basic but quite adequate, with different dishes on offer most days. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice Hotel with great location and Good Restaurant”

We stayed there for one Week. The Location is good for Shopping and Sightseeing. Gateway of India is right down the Street and also the beautiful Taj Palace Hotel. Rooms are basic but everything is really clean. Breakfast is good and you can try different Indian and Continental dishes every Day. You also get Omelett. We also tried the laundry Service which is kind of expansive for india but we got everything back. A Good Hotel with Western Standards in Cleaning and Service.
