Room was tiny (just enough room to fit a bed and a small/narrow desk). However, I only used this as a quick stay before I was off the next morning. So, if you only need a place to rest and freshen up, this would work.

It’s ok”
We asked for a non-smoking room when we booked it and the only available room when we checked in was a smoking room. The masked smell of smoke was evident. The bathroom is tinier than we’re used to and we have stayed at many hotels in Japan. The staff is nice. Check-out is early (10am). The location though is great given it’s right next to the Sea Mall. The hotel feels old.

Poor air-conditioning. Many tiny INSECTS/PESTS on the roof and near the air-conditioner !!!!!! Horrible! I will not choose "Smile Hotel" anymore!!

Very convenient hotel as it is literally next to the mall and Shimonoseki train station. There is a small food court at the basement of the mall just next to the hotel so you can get simple meal easily. There are also some restaurants around the area. Lovely small hotel and friendly staff.

Perfect HOTEL”
We stayed in this hotel in this double room for three days. First, it is good because it is located 5 minutes walk from Simonoseki station. Second, hotel employees are very kind and can speak a little English and Korean. Third, hotel facilities are clean because it is not long since they were remodeled, and you can use washing machine, ice machine, microwave oven, etc.

we drive from fukuoka to smile hotel shimonoseki on day of arrival. it is difficult to locate the car park specifised by hotel as a visitor. hotel location is good just nearby jr station with lots of restaurants and department stores.

Good location, good value. Room was very small, air-conditioning does not work (I believe they follow their policy about eco-friendly (saving energy) policy and regulate lowest temp. It was dead hot summer weather and we had very hard time sleeping due to uncomfortable temp. Service and staff friendliness was excellent. Breakfast was phenomenally good as hotel breakfast. Therefore, mixed review.

next to the JR station (regular train , not Shinkansen) Perfect for what I needed, a quick stop before heading to Kyushu. Friendly staff, clean room. coin laundry : no automatic soap dispenser. dryer hardly dries... needed two cycles, and laundry still wasn't dry. but all in all : FANTASTIC value for money. would definitely stay again
