Very good”
There is a 24hour supermarket and a 100yen shop nearby which are good for shopping. However, the kitchen is outside the house so it’s quite hot and has mosquitoes when it’s summer. Plus dinning room is next to the kitchen. I stayed at ladies dormitory and it is a separated place from the house so it is a little bit inconvenient for me to take on and off the slippers every time I go back to the room.

You are cash on two feet for them”
Within 10 years and almost 50 countries this is the first negative review I’ve ever written. The Location is alright, other than that not a lot more. Mysterious taxes and fees appeared to everybody I spoke to (different ones though ^^), they actually wanted to charge a guy for two days rent for a bicycle cause he asked to get it a little bit before they are officially renting them. For me cause of the snow my bus was running late so I texted them. They told me to pay 4000 yen for checking in later (only cash though.. can only guess why). When I questioned this they got very rude and disrespectful, would neither change, cancel or just send the check-in information via E-Mail- i already had paid, so I ended up having to look for something different short notice. Seems cheap in the beginning but we all ended up paying extra.

Good self service guesthouse”
We were in Kyoto for the foliage and booked this guesthouse because my wife wanted a room with a garden in a traditional Japanese house. This place is a self service guesthouse. You make your own bed. They have 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets outside the room (1 toilet is famale only). There's bus stop on the main road about 200m. Supermarket for food, convenient store just around the corner (within 100m). There are 2 shops to rent kimono near by (100m walking). This place is quiet but it is an old house so the wall is thin, you can hear people talking and squeaking sound of the floor. If you're sensitive to sound when sleeping, you better buy ear-buds. The staffs can speak English pretty good and very helpful. They also have bike rental service.

Fantastic traditional experience ”
Very clean, quiet and friendly traditional Japanese guest house. My buddy and I were passing through Kyoto and wanted the best value for our short time in the beautiful city of Kyoto. We found it here. Thanks! I will recommend.

Excellent”
It has a lot of good points. It's a bit of a walk from Gojo Station but in a quiet area with some good places nearby. It's an old Japanese home and all of it looks very nice. I liked the turtle and the two young people working there. I found it a little uncomfortable to have so many pairs of slippers for each part of the house. It's partly indoors and outdoors. The kitchen is outdoors and the girl's dorm right by it. When I first went in I thought we may get mosquitoes and sure enough we did. The worker was nice enough to light a mosquito coil for us and bring it to our room. I was afraid they may bother us after he went home but they didn't. That night the smoke from the mosquito coil left a slightly bad smell. In the morning I had a slight headache which was probably due to that. Other times though the room had a nice woodsy scent. I kind of felt like I was camping. One night one family and one group had dinner while talking pretty loudly in the kitchen area about 10:00-10:30 and the noise bothered two of us who were trying to sleep. After talking to them though they started to talk more quietly. There's a rule that people should be quiet after 11pm which is displayed clearly. Some guesthouses ask people to be quiet after 10pm. I think that's better as some go to bed earlier. Travelers sometimes have to leave very early to get to their next destination. The toilets are clean and functioning. The bathrooms are pretty tiny. You can wash your clothes for 100 yen in their one washing machine which worked fine. You must hang them up in a certain area upstairs and you must climb a very narrow, steep staircase to get there. I climbed very slowly because I was a little afraid but it was okay. An old Japanese house is quite different than what Western people are used to. It was nice to have this new experience. I liked that the AC in the girl's dorm worked well. In the front area it was a little hot. I disliked that the price during the holiday was about $1

Great place for a single woman traveller ”
I stayed in the female only dormitory and my experience was very good. There is 8 beds in the dorm, but during my stay there was never maximum number of people in the room. The beds are big and comfortable, they are covered with a curtain so you have some privacy. There are 2 bathrooms and sometimes I needed to wait for my turn but I expected this to happen when I saw that the bathrooms are shared. It is understandable and to be expected that we can queue for a bathroom when we share it with 10 more customers. The house itself is an old style, traditional Japanese house. I personally loved the experience of staying in this old house. There are two gardens inside and a common space where you can stay until 23:00. And, most importantly, the staff is great! They helped me a lot, they were informative and very friendly :) I will come back! :)

Excellent”
VEry beautiful place, the house has 180 years and it has a beautiful small garden. The staff is very kind and helpful. The beds are comfortable. In summer or spring should be beautiful and more enjoyable (november is cold, although the rooms have good temperature)

Feels like living in a house, it's quite comfortable, the place is very near the subway and many travel places, which many places allow us to walk around rather than taking the subway

Great choice to spend your day in Kyoto”
The room is Japanese traditional style which is really recommended to travellers who want to feels Japanese's home. I love the room! it's larger than I expected with mini garden view in front of the room, but a little bit cold inside. And you need to take a bus from Kyoto central station, it's quite exhausting by walking.

confined space”
it was pleasing for me to enjoy Japanese traditional culture in reasonable price. For me, however, the facilities of the guest house were quite old, which made me uncomfortable. The stairs were too steep, and the room I stayed was too small for three people to sleep in with our three big trunks. If you are looking for a place where you can relax, stretching your long arms and legs and have some small talk with your friends or other guests, this might not be the one. But staffs were all kind. I loved them.
