Gem in a Rainforest”

Chanced upon a picture of the Datai and decided I have to go there. The Datai is fantastic experience overall - in the middle of rainforest, with fantastic sea views, fresh crisp forest air and plenty of chances to spot monkeys, hornbills and a few exotic lizards. There are huge swimming pools (one for adult only, and another family friendly, pretty good dvd library, spa is very good as well... The beach club is the main restaurant that is open for all day dining, I think there are definitely rooms for improvement there.. I didn't have chance to try the Thai restaurant, but I did try the Gulai House, very good Malay and Indian restaurant in a kampong setting, in the middle of the forest.. very unique experience and highly recommended. The Datai is located about 25mins drive from the airport, and it is a bit far from everything outside the hotel, so would suggest to rent a car for easier access outside. Datai's published rates are pretty steep (starting at about 700usd, I think it's because unlike other hotels, they do not try to cram too much stuff in a small area, it's more like a huge compound for you to explore), it's great that we got good rates from agoda, this is definitely a great experience and I would go to Datai again, especially at agoda's prices.

Excellent Stay”

The Datai is an excellent place to stay if you are looking to stay at a top notch resort. The staff are amazing and go out of their way to make you comfortable. Basically everything we asked for, they provided. If you want something within reason, they will accommodate. The rooms were beautifully appointed, and the beds were very comfortable. The pillows were not very supportive, but it didn't detract from a good night sleep. Walking among the resort, and even from your room, you can see monkeys, hornbills and other wildlife amidst the hotel's jungle setting, which is a real treat. The food at the Datai was good. There are a number of restaurants with different cuisines, and the food ranges from passable to very good. One issue we had was with the serving of alcoholic drinks. They are very careful to give you a very specific amount of alcohol, and it is often not enough for the drink. Make sure to ask the bartender to give you a drink with the proper amount of alcohol. The beach in front of the Datai is very nice. Careful not to wander over to the Andaman at the beach. Their beachfront is dirtier and the water is a lot more murky.Plus, there are tons more kids over there. If you want a better beach, and less noise, stay in front of the Datai.

Perfect Combination of Stunning Natural Environment and Great Service”

I stayed 3 nights at the Datai and had the most relaxing holidays ever. The private beach and rain forests are stunning with birds and monkeys to be seen up close. The design and architecture are natural and blended well with the local environment. The staff were all kind and friendly and cared for small details like providing glasses of water and fruit to guests regularly. The highlights of my stay were Morning and Evening Walks and an informal lecture about the Langkawi natural environment in a small hut by Irshad Mobarak, the seasoned Resident Naturalist. They were inspiring and rekindled the interest to appreciate and learn more about the natural wonders. The hotel management and all the staff should be proud of the very high quality of service they deliver. I hope the Datai continues to give priority to protecting the nearby environment and keeping things simple and natural during their renovation efforts which will keep this hotel a very special place for nature lovers.

Gorgeous secluded location”

One of the most beautiful locations I have ever stayed in. Langkawi as a beach destination is already worth it but the beautiful rainforest surrounding The Datai makes it that much more special. You really are in the middle of a jungle and no matter where you are in the resort, the views are impressive. The food (especially at the Thai) is excellent, the staff is always helpful with any requests. The day before our flight we got back to the room to see our boarding passes already printed and ready to go. Its the little things the Datai does exceptionally well and sets it apart from anywhere else we've stayed in Langkawi.

A beautiful resort in the jungle”

We visisted The Datai for 4 nights. It is apart from the Four Sesons Hotel the nicest Hotel on Pulau Langkawi. The hotel is very nice in the middle of the jungle. It is advisable to rent a car if one stays for longer as it is quite far from any village or city. The service was friendly but a bit lacking the usual over-friendliness of other Asian 5 star ressorts. The rooms are very nicely designed even though the king size bed is actually made of 2 normal beds combined to one. It has 4 very nice restaurants but the prices were a bit steep: a dinner costs minimum 150-200 USD for 2 persons even without ordering any wine etc. So if one stays for 3 nights one should account for additional min. 500 USD just for dinner. Eating outside is an option but a bit tricky as the resort is quite far off any other location and there are not too many restaurants outside of the resorts & hotels. So overall, we can definitely recommend The Datai for its very nice hotel facilities and the rooms but one needs to plan for additional budget for breakfast and dinners.

Brilliant time despite rain”

We first stayed at Andaman next door before we moved for few days of bliss to the datai. As Datai lot more expensive we expected double value at datai and that expectation was met. Andaman was great but datai was fantastic. The rooms are definitely more than twice nice than nice Andaman room and the restaurants are also twice as nice as the nice andaman. We can recommend booking through Agoda we had a good deal for room including breakfast. We were concerned about possible location of room. It was close to bar. However the live music from bar was not loud and was actually quite nice.

Luxury combined with impeccable staff!”

What an amazing honeymoon experience right from the start! My wife and I certainly didn't expect the pickup driver to take us directly to the doorstep of our beautiful beach villa to check-in in the comfort of our living room. Our beach villa was beautifully designed and simply luxurious. Each restaurant at the resort (especially The Pavillion) served some of the most delicious dishes we have ever eaten and we especially enjoyed dining by the sea under the full moon. I could go on and on about how wonderful the resort is and how relaxing it is to be so close with nature in the jungle, but in all honesty the key feature that made our stay truly special was the hotel staff- everyone (and I mean everyone) consistently treated us like royalty. I am so impressed with them, they are the real stars of the resort because I have stayed in many wonderful resorts and hotels only to be let down by its rude/incompetent staff. This is not the case in The Datai - both the resort and the staff were excellent! Some minor feedback - eventhough we hardly used it, the entertainment system in the villa could be improved (no music files in the preloaded USB drive and no bedroom USB drive). Another minor feedback was our dining experience at The Gulai House- our main course took quite some time (at least half an hour) to arrive after our starters. Again, this was minor because we were taking our time to enjoy the whole dining experience, but it may not be ideal for guests to wait that long in between meals. All in all, it was a truly memorable experience at The Datai and we were so reluctant to leave- perhaps we shall return on our Anniversary! If I could, I would rate the overall experience a 6 out of 5!

excellent hotel, excellent staff, excellent food!!”

as a frequent traveller, our stay at the datai has been by far the best experience we have had. nothing was too much trouble, the staff were exceptional, the hotel itself is beautifully presented and the setting among the rainforest by a private beach just completes perfection. it really is a beautiful piece of heaven on earth. if you are looking for a quiet, luxurious and romantic stay in malaysia, then the datai langkawi is where you need to go! i will be back next year for sure!

The perfect hotel, but not the perfect island”

The Datai Langkawi is a great hotel in a great location. The facilities are located within the rain forest and has a beautiful private beach The facilities and the services are the best I have ever had in a 5 star hotel. I would say everything is perfect Having said that, it is wort mentioning that Langkawi Island has little to offer to the visitor We enjoyed very much our stay at the hotel, but other than enjoying its facilities, there is no much to do in the rest of the island Be prepared to enjoy your stay as if you were in an all inclusive.

5-star benchmark”

i stayed at the datai for 4 glorious nights with my parents and i wish it hadn't ended. we got an amazing deal and took 2 rooms next to each other in the main building and i think that suited us very well. the rooms we stayed in are as good as the pictures online but i'd go back just for the bathrooms! the only drawbacks from the rooms were that the air conditioning in my room was only just sufficient (it never got below (i think) 25 degrees even when the thermostat was at 5!) and the bed was a bit too firm for me, but i think that's more personal preference than anything. (yes, i am nitpicking because i was genuinely happy overall!) the 2 pools are modestly sized and in themselves pretty average, but i enjoyed lying on the deckchairs to catch up on reading and sleep! the private beach is indeed private; it's very wide so you don't have to cram in with other people but it's also very short and gets shorter as the tide comes in! the sea was a beautiful color under the sun but was disappointingly murky when you're in it. most of my meals were at the dining room which was served pretty good food that you'd expect at a place like this. by malaysian standards, it's quite pricey but i've paid more for less at other places. missed out on the spa but would really like to have tried it. what really did it for me was the staff. they are ever present and within easy hail but never intrusive. everyone smiles and you get service, not simpering which is something that i really appreciated. the staff seem to be genuinely keen and proud to show you what 5-star service is. it's making me re-evaluate all the other so called 5-star places i've stayed before. most of the reviews (good and bad) are pretty true. it's quite isolated and far from any attractions/shopping which isn't for everyone but i loved it! it's certainly somewhere i'd like to go back again but, admittedly, only if i could get a similar deal because it's otherwise quite expensive even with how amazing i

Beautiful hotel with great service”

the datai is a very tranquil and peaceful hotel (although i did visit low season and the staff did say it gets busy at christmas and new year). the staff are excellent. agoda did not process my request for a transfer from the airport. there was a member of staff from the datai there waiting for another guest and he sorted it for me in moments. the food was overall excellent (there was one not so great meal but they made me a fresh meal immediately) but the choice was limited - just 2 restaurants were open for dinner. the spa was fabulous and reasonably priced (similar to uk spa prices) overall a very relaxing and enjoyable trip.

Excellent service in a beautiful setting”

I would definitely recommend the Datai. We liked it so much we didn't leave the resort for the duration of our 4 nights' stay. The service was excellent, food very good with a reasonable choice, and our room spacious and very clean. The spa was a highlight. There were thoughtful touches like board games available in the bar and DVDs for loan. The only drawbacks were the bites and stings! My friend was bitten by mosquitoes, probably in the room, despite wearing repellent - we later learnt that a "mosquito machine" was in the drawer, but this was not emphasised on arrival. The beach was beautiful and the sea warm and calm but I was stung by something in the sea (uncomfortable, not serious); no formal information was provided about such hazards. Although the Datai was not cheap and spa treatments and meals added to the cost I would recommend it for a special break with the emphasis on relaxation.

Outstanding Stay”

An outstanding stay at what must be among the top ten resorts in the world that I have stayed at. All the Staff were exceptional, from the minute you arrived they all addressed you by name, nothing was a problem.All the F&B Facilities outstanding (the Breakfast incredible including Champagne & Bloody mary`s) The Beach and pool areas superb and the natural setting of the Resort in the Rain Forest was a master pierce of planning.Irshad the Resident Naturalist was another highlight of our stay,his tour was excellent. We plan to make the Datai our regular stop in Langkawi. Only regret is that we could not stay longer. Seri our Concierge also needs a special thank you. Thank you all the Staff for a wonderful stay.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature”

I always come back to The Datai. The Superior Villas are huge and you may be lucky enough to have monkeys frolic on your private balcony. This resort showcases the beauty of nature and helps you appreciate the importance of having a clean, healthy environment. Your body and mind will feel calm and relaxed as you experience the delights of The Datai. I highly recommend a visit to the Spa, a stroll along the beach and a buffet dinner at the Beach Club (they have different themes each night). The cost to stay at The Datai may seem high, but you definitely get what you pay for. The staff are courteous and make you feel special.

Nature & Luxury”

The Nature Centre helmed by Irshad Mobarak and the on-site guided nature walks were the main draw for us. Those experiences and the animals, birds and reptiles we saw in the forests and mangroves around The Datai led by Mr Mobarak and his fabulous team of guides exceeded our expectations. In the process too, we discovered again the beauty of The Datai property and its surroundings. The personal service of its people made us feel right at home and the food in all the restaurants was excellent as well. Our 6 days at The Datai flew by all too quickly!

The best hotel experience ever”

We had to wait a while during the check-in, despite having informing them that we will be arriving earlier, they did their very best to ensure that we were well-served. We were ushered the lounge to wait for the room (beautiful view overlooking the swimming pool) and we even fell asleep there, so serene. Later on, I think the GM informed us that the room will take a while and advised that we should go have our lunch first. We headed to The Beach Club and we were instantly awed by the breathtaking views of the glistening crystal clear water by the beach. What a perfect setting! The service staff at the Beach Club were super hospitable, and the food was fantastic for the price we paid!! The GM called The Beach Club to inform us that our room is ready so they took us back to the Hotel Lobby in a buggy. The room was tastefully designed and equipped with everything that you will need. The most amazing thing was there was a panel behind the bed where you can select music of birds chirping and the sound of chopping waves. Imagine waking up to such beautiful sound!! The walk-in wardrobe was also very spacious and there were two wash basins for us. And they even provide Molton Brown toiletries!! However, the let down was there are neither toothpaste, toothbrush nor comb. We had to call the housekeeping to send it to us but they were prompt and came in less than 5 minutes!! So amazing :) The thing that we missed during our stay was the morning and evening walks. We couldn't wake up on time for the morning walks although we really wanted to go because the bed was too comfy to sleep-in. Maybe the next stay we would; heard so much about the walks. Such a waste to miss it!! We also had a very good time painting batiks at the beach front and the artist was kind enough to draw another mirror image of the batik piece I've chosen just for my fiancee to paint. The entire stay with Datai was truly memorable for both me and my fiancee and we would definitely come back!!

best hotel”

The Hotel is very nice, five star top class. The pools, restaurants, bars and all other facilities are just perfect. But the extraordinary was the excellent service: We did a weekend trip to Langkawi and spent only one night at The Datai. It was a 30 min drive from the airport and we arrived in the morning. The room was ready after we had our nice breakfast - early check in was no problem. The concierge asked about our flight back and we got a late check out without discussion. So in the end we could enjoy our room and all facilities for two full days and it was a perfect weekend relax trip.

Very satisfied and enjoyable stay”

We love the datai langkawi Staff hospitality. Never one moment we feel we are left alone and lost there. We feel welcome & homely there with their service. All our requirements are taken care and addressed promptly. All the staff, including the security guard who take care of the cars at the car park are friendly and helpful. Best Luxury hotel in Lankawi ”

This was first visit in Langkawai for us. There was a van from the airport to Datai. There was a Japanese staff attended to us for check-in and explained about facilities. The room was nice suite but we stayed at beach or pool side for whole day. WiFi signal was not reaching those area so I hope this will be fixed. Gym was great. We had Thai food and Local cuisine for dinner. Both fantastic. On final day, we wanted try SPA for the first time in Datai but it was fully booked so that was only thing let us down for whole stay.

Nice place to stay in Langkawi”

This is the first time that I visit Langkawi and I consider to stay in The Datai after compare with other hotel. During my stay I very impressed with their services and care. They alway asked if we need anything and they willing to help us with the heart. All staff train very well. The room and Toilet was clean than I expect even it’s inside the forest. The facilities was superb. Talk about animals and wild life there, they have show up but they not harm you. I very recommend for this hotel to stay.
