Home away from Home!”

This was a home away from home for me, I didn’t want to come back. I had had lunch and dinner a couple of times in Agashiya, the Gujarati thali restaurant in the House of MG which I loved indeed. But, it was the first time I stayed in this Heritage Hotel that used to be the Home for Mangaldas and his extended family. I got a room at the top floor which had a terrace with a swing and a sitting, a large bathroom-cum-dressing; the room was beautifully and tastefully decorated with all comforts of any standard room of a five star hotel. The entire building, restaurants, the textile museum and the shop were simply a treat for me. I particularly loved the spaces of the hotel like corridors and porches which had swings and chair arrangements in a casual but traditional way which made the whole ambiance of the place very homely. Since I love Gujarati food, I had a great selection and a great time in having those.

This is my second visit to House of MG. The staff here are consistently excellent in all areas from hotel pick up, front of house, house keeping and the restaurants. It's lovely to stay in a place that has charm and doesn't look like another impersonal hotel room. Highly recommended.

Warning”

The House of MG is beautiful and the staff delightful. When I booked I was at the Annexe. This turned out to be a completely separate house a 10 minute ride away, with only a cafe. There was free transport to the main hotel but it took half an hour to arrive. They did move us to the main hotel at extra cost.

An apparently little-known gem ...”

Love this place!! Only one minor gripe: I’ve stayed here three times. Each time, I noticed something odd: whenever I was out and wanted to return to the hotel, I had difficulty getting the cab driver or tuktuk-wallah to understand where I needed to go. Whenever I said “House of M.G.” or “M.G. House Hotel” or something similar, I was usually met with apparent bafflement as to where it was! I didn’t understand this at all; a fabulously restored heritage building, on a main road in the Old Town, near the Heritage Walk, and they hadn’t heard of it? This made no sense, but it wasn’t an issue until I needed to return in time to check out and catch a train. I finally got a tuk-tuk and gave HIM directions on how to get there! When I asked about this at check-out, the clerk said “You should’ve asked to go to Agashiye Restaurant. They all know that.” I said that was important to know, and why didn’t they tell guests that. She said “You didn’t ask.” WHY would I think I should ask?

Lovely hotel with excellent service”

This is a beautifully restored family mansion. The service is excellent. Rooms are tastefully decorated and very large compared to normal hotels in ahmedabad for the same price. Wifi was good in my room but not working in a colleague's room. Nice breakfast with eggs and dosa to order. The only cons were that the pool was under renovation while I was there, and the gym could be improved with a few more things like free weights. I will definitely return.

Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way in terms of facilities, value for money and general ambience. Location in the old of part of Ahmedabad was very good. We would particularly like to thank the services of Saiyed- Concierge and Guide, who provided us the benefit of his extensive experience and knowledge of Ahmedabad.

Great stay and great ambience”

Rooms were amazing.. just no words to explain. It made me feel at home. Would love to stay for more than a life time too.. slightly high on cost. But my daughter loved it and asked me to extend the stay too: Infact we also wanted to stay in the room all day instead of going out. Entrance restaurant staff service is pathetic. They don't know how to treat ppl as human beings. As our breakfast was complimentary, they behaved as though we r there for free of cost. Worst tasteless food was given. The stare that the staff gave made us feel we r sitting there without money. So we dint eat anything properly. Dinner thali was amazing.. too great service by the restaurant staff. Amazing hospitality at roof top restaurant. Over all, request to MG for the ground floor restaurant staffs, that treat every one as human beings, all other staffs are too good, house keeping is amazing. Especially the senior staffs in ground restaurant are bad.

A wonderful heritage hotel”

We had a wonderful stay at House of MG, and a wonderful dinner on the roof terrace at Agashyie. The Gujarati thali should not be missed there, it was the best I had in Gujarat. Beautiful shop and possibility of taking different kinds of very informative walks around the city. Also a great museum not far for textile buffs

A beautiful palace hotel.”

Overall, attentive and courteous staff. The Manager was very helpful and sorted out an issue of one night's cancellation. The room rates are on the high side, but staying there is a pleasure. The mixture of Indian and art deco is tasteful, the place has character, and the patio with its mosaic floor is very pleasant. The location is great, and Ahmedabad has a lot to offer, especially the Gandhi ashram and the old city.

It was a nice stay in House of MG with excellent heritage look and atmosphere. Rooms are very nice, spacious and cleaned. Staff were very good. Can recommend to any one.

Oasis in Ahmedabad”

We had a very good stay and recommend House of MG fully. Only negative point: The hotel is located directly on a very busy road.

I loved my stay there. Location is amazing and in the middle of the city. Rooms have ancestral look and they are huge. Though It would've been really helpful if there was a 24 hours room service as I landed at midnight and all kitchens were closed. I stayed for 4 nights in heritage grand room and paid a good price. I had to request for late check out as my flight was s at 2300hrs. I was disappointed to see that I was charged for late check out . Most hotels would waive it for a long stay guest as a goodwill gesture. Nevertheless loved the experience and would recommend to my friends and family.

Beautiful hotel”

The hotel and restaurant are a touch of luxury. However be careful about the price of their drivers, we were quoted 850 rupees to get to the airport, Uber cost of 128 rupees. Also on checkout there were problems with using an international credit card & my bank was billed twice, I emailed immediately and the problem was fixed immediately. Overall very good service and enjoyable stay in a heritage hotel

Nearly wonderfull”

The location is within absolute traffic mayhem,so if you are noise sensitive look out.It is a large,well maintained heritage property.Food in both restaurants excellent but the breakfast buffet is overpriced and all drink and juice portions are stingy.One historical photo of the Mangaldas family in my moderately sized room would have been nice but there were four which felt weird,try a few historical photos of ahmedabad instead.On arrival for four days a tour of the sprawling property would be nice not just things pointed at from reception in a hasty manner.Strangely there is nowhere to hang your clothes in the pool changing room.I was followed around the upstairs shop and textile gallery by a bored security guard and ignored by the one staff member who was doing important things.There are wonderful nooks and crannies all over the property to sit and relax just dont expect any staff to appear to see if you would like a drink.

This is such a beautiful and great place to stay. The hotel is so beautiful and it really shows the heritage. The rooms are all spacious and well designed. I love the authenticity of it and it was my second time at this property and hopefully not the last. One point of criticism make the pool HEATED!!! The water is way to cold, as it is inside it doesn’t get heated by the sun. Please this would make the stay a 5++

Superlatives fail me! Wonderful hotel.”

Frankly, I did not want to leave. I could live here! Staff are exceptionally well-trained, courteous, and HAPPY. This is evidently a really well-managed hotel. The rooms are huge and lofty, and the bathrooms almost as large. The swimming pool is simply beautiful, and the upstairs restaurant a visual and gastronomic delight. Absolutely five star experience!

Ahmedabad's best hotel”

I was welcomed and my check in was dealt with competently and swiftly – just what one needs after a long trip. Staff carried my bags to the room, showed me how everything worked, and quickly departed. My first impression was the mothball aroma. I quickly collected the offending spheres, put them in a plastic bag and hid them in a corner. They were removed the next day and not replaced, but I assume only because I insisted. The aroma lingered throughout my stay, but wasn't as obtrusive as when I arrived. I am now in Paris and a few of my things still smell a bit, but I'm sure a little airing will deal with it.

Excellent service, excellent food, good facilities overall. Adding wifi as a standard feature would be helpful - they charge only a small amount for it (Rs 250 per day) but it's cumbersome to go through the additional billing process. The hotel has some stairs at the entrance, and the room I was given also had stairs inside. Not a problem for me, but people who can't manage stairs might face problems.

Dengue from House of MG”

I stayed at the House of the MG October 14-16, in room 131. That bathroom features an antique well which is the breeding source for myriads of mosquitoes. As the glass top covering the opening of the well is not closing tightly, the mosquitoes have direct access to the bathroom and guest room, converting it into a swamp rather than a hotel. When I notified the staff, they produced All-In to plug into the wall. This hardly helping with the pest, I insisted they stuff a piece of cloth between the well top. As a consequence I came down with severe dengue. Unfortunately this is not all. Their beautiful pool is infested with pigeons (nesting!), there are feathers and droppings all over. I pointed that out to staff repeatedly- to no avail. While waiting 2 1/2 hours for my room to get ready I was not even offered as much as a glass of water .At breakfast I constantly had to ask for refills of water and coffee. In spite of myriads of staff nothing happens without asking and waiting.
