Relaxing vacation ”

The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko provides a relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed going up in the cable car to get an excellent view of Mt Fuji. We also enjoyed the onsen which has an interior and an outdoor bath. We found the restaurants to be expensive. The least expensive dinner is 6,000Yen to which a 13% gratuity is added . This is for a buffet that serves the exact same meal each night. The shuttle from Odawara Station was great.

Grand Old Hotel”

Much of the hotel looks like it is from a James Bond film in the 1970s or 1980s. In a good way! Big, solid, with huge windows and vista type views of the mountains. The view of Fuji is fantastic. The staff is gentle, helpful and kind. The grounds are beautiful. The linens are incredibly comfortable. The TV is brand new with narrow bezel. Hakone-en is a sort of resort village right next to the hotel. The cable car, aquarium, museum, swan boats and some shops and restaurants are also located there. Lots of places to walk and tons of fresh mountain lake air. You will likely find the restaurant dining to be a tad expensive. The minibar is actually very reasonably priced. The wifi is fast enough and well accessible. Spa is great! The free hotel shuttle to Odawara was greatly appreciated (and saves about JPY8,000 on a taxi) and very comfortable. My only downside was that the hotel doesn't stock plug adapters for standard north American 3 prong (including ground) to 2 prong Japan outlet (or 3 prong Singapore to 2 prong Japan, for that matter). The Kaede spa actually has US-style 3 prong wall outlets, although I didn't think it reasonable to ask if I could charge my laptop in the spa. Also if you are a picky traveller, you might say that the shower/bathroom could be updated but really, not a big deal. All in all a fantastic old-school hotel with great style and peacefulness. I will come back to Prince Hakone!!

hotel location is good, just next to lake ashinoko, good view. it is not convenient for those not driving person, but hotel provide shuttle bus, not sure shuttle bus can go which attractions. Room environment very good, there are two hot spring in the hotel, inside and outside, but unfortunately they cant see the Mout Fuji. the room package i choose include breakfast, not include dinner. we drive to Hakone-yumoto for our dinner, around 5pm, all the stores almost closed. Just few izakaya open. So if u not driving, I recommended take package include dinner, or reserve dinner when u check in. there are two types breakfast u can choose, Japanese breakfast or international breakfast, obviously we choose Japanese breakfast, because i think international breakfast just buffet. but Japanese breakfast not enough for man adult, only can refill the rice/porridge or miso soup. Overall, recommended, good place for relax.

An affordable luxury at Hakone”

Onsen, Sealy Mattress, Fantastic Rooms!

We never give reviews for hotels which we stay at. However, I thought I would do justice to The Prince Hakone Hotel by writing a short review on it. We arrived at the hotel on one misty night, and sighted the hotel from afar. It looked magical, sitting in all that mist. Upon checking in, we went to the outdoor onsen, which was simply rejuvenating. Not to mention the sealy mattress which we provided in the room. It felt like resting on a cloud. We awoke next morning, feeling simply recharged. I would definitely visit The Prince Hakone again!

Beautiful views and large rooms”

Amazing views, large rooms, nice service

The Prince Hakone is a lovely hotel overlooking lake Ashi in Hakone. It's located in a very remote place so it's not the most convenient of hotels. However this is good because the views are just amazing with nothing else but a lake and mountains all around you. The rooms are lovely and large for a Japanese Hotel. Make sure to get a lake view. There is a french restaurant and a Japanese restaurant. We tried the Japanese restaurant. The set menu was very delicious and highly recommended. Breakfast is pleasant with a nice selection in the western restaurant. We also booked a facial at the spa. Service was fantastic and the treament was lovely.

Good hotel with great onsen facilities ”

Hotel is situated next to beautiful lake Ashinoko. Several viewing spots for the lake are nearby. Hotel decor and furnishings look a bit dated, but rooms are large and comfortable. On-site onsen facility is a big plus factor, and is top class in all aspects.

Views views views”

We chose a room with Lake View and were blown away with a great winter view of the lake with Mt Fuji in the background. Very relaxing surrounding with its serene gardens, great breakfast and dinner at Lakeside Grill; we enjoyed ourselves at its open air onsen bath too. Very healing experience. Highly recommended if you like peace and quiet. From the Hotel, you can walk to the ropeway station and ferry terminal, where you can take the Lake Ashi Cruise. There are some eateries at the ropeway station but do note that they only operate for lunch. In the same vicinity, there is Hakone Zoo (where you get to pet many kinds of animals, ie. dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, alpaca, etc) and Aquarium at same location, a lot of activities to entertain the young ones.

We tried dinner in their Japanese Resto, taste so so the price quiet expensive. However the Western Breakfast is so Good, my kid loved the breakfast so much.

Expensive for what you get”

The Prince Hakone hotel is in a nice location on the lakeside - but be warned, not many rooms have good views of the lake, and even if you pay for a lakeview room, the view of the lake might be from the balcony rather than from the room, where you'll be looking at trees. Some rooms do also have a good view of Mt Fuji in the distance. The hotel is dated and showing its age, and it is definitely not value for money to stay here. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, but not really that special.

hot water spring inside the hotel

The hotel location is a little unusual. If you are travelling from Hakone station to the hotel, would advise to check the timing of the hotel transport. Travelling on your own with local transport is not advisable. The hotel itself is beautifully made and right next to the lake. Peacefull and relaxing atmosphere. The restaurants are expensive so if you are on a budget would recommend eating outside

The hotel is quite isolated but with the hotel free shuttle bus service and Hakone-en bus stop (within 5mins walking distance from the Hotel), you can explore the entire Hakone! Just let the hotel staffs know the place you intend to visit and they are most happy to help!

It is a nice comfortable hotel as I am used by Prince hotels. ”

It is a nice comfortable hotel as I am used by Prince hotels. I am quite often in Japan and I prefer to stay in Prince Hotels e.g. Shinkansen Prince Hotel in Yokohama. Very pleasant and clean spa. Beautiful location facing Fuji-san , nice garden and a relaxing walk along the Ashino ko.

Lovely”

Very wonderful and relaxing stay. Restaurants on site are expensive but food is good. Location near lake, ropeway and on site onsen made it a great choice for us with only one night in Hakone.

Big room with good service”

The room was big enough for my kid to run around, but the fittings were a tad old. Unless you are planning your trip around Lake Ashi, it can take a while to get to the other parts of Hakone due to the limited public bus routes to the hotel. The shuttle service to and from Odawara was welcome, as was the service to Motohakone (albeit in one-hour intervals), the main transit point in the area.

The Mt. Fuji-facing outdoor onsen sealed it”

Outdoor onsen facing Mt. Fuji, medium-sized room with a balcony, high speed (wired) internet

Our intention in Hakone was to soak in an onsen and enjoy the view, and that we did. The hotel is right on the edge of the lake so it goes without saying that the view was wonderful. Our only gripe was that it's pretty far from the train station. Only upon checkout did I learn that they provide a shuttle bus service to the station. I was unable to find this information anywhere on their website, as such my friends and I had to fork out a total of around 15,000 yen for a taxi to and from the hotel. A significant amount that definitely ate into our budget for the rest of the vacation. Overall a pleasant stay, the food at the hotel was nothing to write home about, and it was quite expensive. But the outdoor onsen more than made up for it as we were all exhausted by the time we reached.

Amazing location, very relaxing stay”

Very beautiful location, well maintained hotel, lovely lake-side garden and onsen

The stay was very relaxing and comfortable, we had a garden view room though could see Mt Fuji from the balcony as well - the location of the hotel is unbeatable. Best place to stay in Hakone for a super relaxing holiday

Great hotel however parking unsafe”

Nice big rooms, wonderful location, nice spa

If you are going there by train, then you will like that hotel. I live in Japan and I made the mistake of parking my sports car in their lot. Everything was fine until I came back from dinner around 10PM. Parked next to other Benz, BMWs etc so I wasn't too worried. However in the morning, when I went to get my car, the rear right tire was as flat as it can be! I called my insurance to get it towed and eventually the dealer sent me a photo of the removed wheel with 2 long blades in it (most likely from a cutter knife). The hotel claimed they are not responsible for any damage. The Japanese police did not seem to want to help at all. My insurance claimed since there is no damage to the body, they won't accept to replace the tire. This stay was ruined by some jealous idiot. I talked to one of the staff and she told me it has been happening quite a bit lately, guys come at night knowing they will find expensive cars parked there. Even employee's cars are targeted according to her. So my question is, why if you know there is a security problem, how come there is no fence/gate, no security guard or camera!! This cost me a completely ruined trip and a lot of stress and money to get my car fixed. I would have loved to stay there again would it be for more security in the parking lot. Too bad
