Great resort, with a nice breakfast, good water slides for kids and a clean and quiet beachfront.
Perfect for families ”
Beautiful and vast resort, awesome water slides and other activities to keep the children busy. Good food, although Talay restaurant is not as good as it inspires to be. We had a great time, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for couples.
Positives and Negatives”
The Sands is great option for your stay in Khao Lak but it is important to note that this resort is LARGE. We got a room close to reception as the pool, kids pool, beach, breakfast was all a little walk away. We also found the pool area pretty noisy with all the people around so upgraded to a room with a private pool area which was really lovely. Another point was that the interconnecting rooms were NOISY, we had horribly noisy neighbours till midnight - so make sure to ask for a room that doesn't have an interconnecting door. Staff are lovely, kids club is amazing, babysitting cheap, breakfast is yummy and well organized. Kids pool area is lots of fun for the little ones and the rooms are lovely. I didn't love the beach area very much and would probably stay higher up (at White Sands of Coconut Beach) at a smaller resort if we return to Khao Lak.
An exceptionalexperience ”
This is 5 star in every way: Location, attention to detail in every aspect. Design. Staff. Food, facilities. The only let down was their cocktails, i would have expected real ingredients and not syrup, that is the only complaint. Everything was outstanding.
Amazing vacation, made better by this resort!”
Staying at this resort was the pinnacle of my vacation! I couldn’t have imagined it being any better! It was clean, staff was excellent, food was great, layout and the actual thought that went into the layout was awesome, location was great! I just can’t say enough about my experience with The Sands :)
Nice hotel set on a very nice beach”
Very friendly and very polite staff couldn't fault any of them.the resort facilities are kept to a height standard.there are only two negatives one being the breakfast room was always over crowded unless you went in way before 7 am with birds helping themselves to your food if left unattended and rooms in the lagoon view rooms are in need of a refurbishment ,they are kept clean and serviced but the laminate floors have seen better days and the walls in our room 3206 are ready for a lick of paint
Great property for family! The water park is a must go”
Never stayed in a nice place for a long time! This hotel nails it for good location, great and friendly staff, I got lucky with a nice pool view. Go Pong (a local food stall is just 10mins by walking. Must try if you are there)
Great family hotel with good facilities and service”
A very good hotel for family. You can stay in the hotel without leaving it, with facilities that will keep you and your kids entertain: water slides, lazy river, free pool table, free table tennis table, just to name a few. The service is above average without being overwhelming. The food in the three in-house restaurants are tasty and at reasonable prices. If you are bored with the in-house restaurants, a 8 minute walk to the main road will lead you to many restaurants. All in all, I will stay in this resort if I ever go back to Khao Lak, honestly.
Very Nice Resort. Good Location, Good Facility, Kind Staff. It was a little disappointing that the breakfast food was not colorful during 4days. I wish the food would change little by little every day, if possible.
Everything about this hotel is great. We had 9 nights here and enjoyed every minute. The staff were so helpful, the facilities were over and above and our room was fantastic. It was spacious, clean and very well appointed. Would we recommend this hotel.....yes definitely.
Good hotel, nice rooms”
I’d say the hotel is good, not exceptional- it’s starting to look a little dated but the bedrooms are really nice. The timetable of kids activities is comprehensive and there were a lot of things my son wanted to do (age 9), he enjoyed the freedom of being allowed to sign himself in and out of the kids space and find friends to play with around the hotel grounds. The kids play pool was perfect for our baby and there were plenty of loungers available for us at any time of day. The breakfast was good and varied. Restaurants in the resort were overpriced but there are loads of local restaurants within walking distance just up the hill so it’s not a problem. Likewise massages are 5 times more expensive than they are if you take a 5 minute stroll along the beach. Worth paying the extra to have a room with pool access, the kids loved it.
Excellent, variety of food and all facilities are excellent”
This hotel is really good, breakfast vareity of food and staff are well trained during breakfast time. We stay 6 days and we had different food each day. There is 5 swimming pool and there is lot of activities for kids in the pool. Young kids will love this hotel, they will not get bored. This hotel is on the beach, wifi is really good and you can even used your wifi when you are relaxing near the beach. There Is music at the restaurant for dinner and there Iis 3 restaurants. Gym Is really good, staff can speak english. Welcome at reception is really good. Only bad thing is khoa Lak is very quiet town, 5 days is enough in Khoa Lak. At night restaurant is about 10 minutes walk and it is safe to walk, there is music in restaurant at night when you are walking. We recommend this hotel if you are going to Khoa Lak
Great resort for families and others”
Many facilities. If some people should like to avoid children they can choose to do that. Prices reasonably and the food has a high standard. The staff is friendly and everything is kept clean and tidy. All in all a very good choice all year around.
Excellent Staycation for Parents & Children Alike”
Unlike the normal Thailand resorts that were packed with travellers, The Sands were spread over a large area that had plenty of space for couples (read : parents stressed out by young children) to rekindle their romance whether by sauntering along the long, sandy beach or having a massage by the seafront; and children with the sprawling water theme park and kids' club. We went there for our anniversary, and it was an excellent area for a staycation and our family had a lovely time indeed. Special mention must be made towards the friendly and nice hotel staff, whom were always accommodating and with smiles all time around. Definitely worth future visits!
Beautiful hotel, but felt let down by the bedroom. ”
Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting, right by the beach. The only let down for me was the bedroom. I felt it didn't live up to the 5 star rating. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly from the previous guests as there was long hairs all over the sink and around the sink area. I complained to the maid who came to make the bed up. This would be the only negative to the hotel. I stayed in Khao Lak for one week, but decided to move to another hotel because of this. I found another 5 star which was equally as good and less money by the beach. I don't think there is any excuses for a dirty bathroom in any hotel, let alone a luxury hotel.
perfect location for sunset, walking distance to khao lak center and nice restaurants (ddee, spinach, and one on the beach on the left). beach isn't that great (very small at high tide). breakfast is awesome (especially the sunday waffle and whipped cream).
Fleur from Australia”
The rooms were clean and spacious and the gardens beautiful, as were the staff. They were all so friendly and so wonderful with the kids. Would definitely return :)
A great holiday resort ”
We had a fantastic holiday, the best swimming facilities for our 3yr old were fantastic, he loved every minute. The food was also very good. The resort is a few minutes walk to the high street where there are plenty of other eateries to try. Our only niggle was we had a family room (which was fantastic) but every night outside our room load music played till 9.30, which wasn’t ideal when trying to get a little one to sleep. There is plenty of other accommodation around the resort, so just check your location.
The Sands was just wonderful. The room, the pool, the restaurant and the grounds were outstanding. As a couple we found the pool access room a wonderful perk and relaxing. The main pool near the beach was quiet and restful. The childrens area looked like great fun also but not for us this time without the kids. The week we had was very relaxing and did not dissappoint. We will be back.
We stayed 3 nights which was just enough for us. Pros; Very nice overall ambience. We loved how the main pool overlooks the ocean then lush lawn with sun beds flow right into a beautiful beach. Amazing sunsets from here. Rooms very big, clean and new with direct pool access. Nice breakfast with huge selection. Staff friendly and welcoming. Cons: rooms not very well insulated. Can hear noise from other rooms around and inconsiderate people swimming late at night (something to consider when booking a pool access room) . Can imagine when resort is at full capacity would not be very private either. Very loud air conditioner! Did not have the best sleep unfortunately.
