Trang city will be your hub stop if u r headed to any of the surrounding islands for adventure, Koh Mook, koh Kradan etc.(aprox 50min drive from Trang city to the coast/boat ) The south is not anything like the melting pot of Thailand 'BKK' , the local economy is agriculture. rubber, cashew nuts etc. local pass times is duelling bulls. "big money livestock!" Backpacker types will be at home here. the local language even thickens the more closer u get to Malaysia. funny, even central Thais have to listen closely to understand the southern locals...dialect & southern twang... lol The Thurmin Thana hotel may be the cities best offering when it comes to western standards. Stay away from the spa (mezzanine floor) in the Thurmin Thana hotel. " terrible service for thai standards" u r better elsewhere. In general the accommodations r at its best..just another standard hotel..there are professional services available. (ex.) catering, business center etc. upside is also security. There is key access to activate elevators up to the rooms, heavy lobby staff and theres proud security personnel like most organized accommodations in thailand. For the price its worth it. Everything worked in my room. AC :), a view, local TV...yah and western toilet haha....i have humbly no complaints and not much expectations! The staff is great. Professional and courteous. Limited in english but can get by. Expect major english language limitations outside of the hotel. Better work on your charades game. Get a hotel business card before u depart for adventure. it will help the driver to understand going back to the "rhong rham= hotel" Thumrin Thana . The local food is where its at though. Go off grid and take a old school classic tuk tuk. Now i know how it is to be on R&R back in the day. Go get some thai/ muslim fusion cuisine. U r in a ancient country. Your in the south now!

Big spacious rooms”

I arrived from Koh Lanta and stayed one night at Thumrin Thana Hotel in Trang while waiting for my flight to Bangkok, the next day. I like this hotel. It is a big hotel in the city center. The pride of Trang a decade (or two) ago, I guess... Still, the hotel is not as run down as some reviews may indicate. My room was spacious and clean with an amazing view over Trang. The hotel catering mostly to thai business travelers, I think. Not so many western tourists stay at this hotel. The hotel has a fitness center and a pool. When I stayed at Thumrin Thana I was the only one using the pool and fitness room, althought the hotel had a lot of guest. Most of the staff can understand a bit english, but only a few can speak english fluently. Good value for money (I paid 1 500 THB for one night at Thumrin Thana Hotel in January 2013).

The most comfortable beds in Thailand”

The hotel is old but good value for money. Staff were very attentive and helpful. After spending two weeks of sleepless nights on concrete slabs disguised as beds, the innerspring mattress at Thumrin Thana was a welcome relief!! The room was large, well equipped and very comfortable. The paint was peeling form the walls but who cares when you can get a good night's sleep! The shower water was warm, not hot, but good pressure. The breakfast buffet was enormous with both Asian and western food. We loved the 'local coffee' with condensed milk. There is a small convenience store in the foyer and a coffee shop with delicious cakes. We stayed for one night in Trang upon our return from Koh Kradan and flew to Bangkok the next day. The shuttle bus to the airport was on time and very well organised by the hotel.

great value for money”

i planned to stay here just one night in transit but i very much liked this hotel and stayed another night to take an inexpensive four island boat trip. the hotel runs a free shuttle from the trang airport and will be there to greet your flight. trang is a pleasant town without much to see other than the very interesting night market. the hotel is by far the tallest building in the area making it easy to find. reviewers here keep noting that the hotel has "has seen better days". this is true but to me the relevant question is whether or not it still provides good value and the answer here is a resounding "yes".my room was very large, bright and clean with both a shower and bath tub. there was plenty of hot water. the breakfast buffet offered excellent variety with a good selection of thai food and eggs cooked to order. guidebooks note the excellent filtered coffee in trang and this is available on the buffet with or without sweetened condensed milk. the staff does not speak english well but was always friendly.

Impressive hotel ”

Firstly, don't mix this hotel up with the other Thumrin hotel which is also in Trang - make sure you look for the Thumrin Thana only!! Once we arrived we were very pleased with hotel, although felt a little embarassed that we were in beach gear (just arrived from Koh Lipe) as this is a fairly upmarket hotel used by VIPs and business guests. The rooms are very large and good value for money although some areas needed some tlc. Good hard bed and very quiet (as we were 10 stories up). Nice pool and spa.

highly suggested to guests who travelling to Trang with families or couple and for business function. Hotel location was central access point in Trang's town especially for who on business travel. Lots of commercial and banking institution nearby hotel. Furthermore, for families and couples traveler, hotel room condition was large enough and comfortable. Hotel lobby also got booth offering city sightseeing tour and island hopping tour in Trang.

Excellent value for money- lovely Thai town”

Best hotel/price/value for money we stayed at in Southern Thailand. Big clean rooms, excellent gym, pool, table tennnis and massage available. Stayed 5 nights in Trang and did day trips to the beautiful but throughly overpriced Trang islands. A much better option to stay on the mainland especially with unpredictable weather and sudden terrential rains. This hotel had enough to keep us busy even in the rain. Brilliant

Frequent Visitor”

I always try to stay at the Thumrin Thana Hotel at least 1 night when I pass through Trang. Trang City is not a hot tourist destination, but the hotel has everything you might need: good restaurant, entertainment, nightclub, massage, hair salon, pool etc. The Japanese food served by the restaurant (as well as western and Thai food) is excellent. Yes, the hotel has a few miles on it and could use a multi million dollar makeover, but I find it clean, friendly and comfortable.

Great hotel in Trang”

we stayed there on the night of 20th of december 2012. the hotel had staff at trang airport which we have not booked but we approached them to say that we were staying at their hotel so we benefited from a free transfer from trang aiport to the hotel, so first thing that was very good and convenient. once we arrived check in was nice and easy, i read on some reviews that the staff have poor english but this was not a problem for us, mind you they were nice and welcoming. the room was huge, of course it must have had better days, it probably looks a little bit tired but still ok with a nice big functional bathroom with a good powerful shower. people should not forget that this is trang in the south of thailand and not bkk or any other big city... i've been going to thailand for the last 10 years and if i go to koh lipe again and land in trang will definitely go to this hotel again.

a most friendly and lovely hotel”

this hotel seems to make its living from things like conventions as trang is not a well known tourist spot. but this hotel is most friendly and smiling and efficient. a great deal of this is due to the manager a jovial man who maintains a high profile and makes sure any guest requirement is instantly met.rooms and food are excellent and the restaurant deserves to be better supported, its not worth while trawling the streets to find cheaper food better presented. ask for room 914. if you are intested in trains you will enjoy the view of the fussy liitle locos creeping off to bk. this room also gives sunsets to die for especially with a gand t in hand.

A good hotel when staying in Trang, Thailand”

We stayed here because we felt the location and amenities the hotel offered were good. We were quite correct on both counts. We stayed during the build up to Chinese New Year. Trang and this hotel were all busy getting prepared with decorating and everything looked wonderful. We enjoyed Trang and found the city to be full of friendly, helpful people. This hotel helped in our overall pleasant stay. Most people quickly pass through and should take time to enjoy an authentic Thai City.

Great place to stay! ”

We stop in Trang often whilst driving up to Phuket. This hotel is a perfect place to stay. Lovely large clean rooms. Hotel has a fantastic Japanese restaurant. You can also enjoy a delicious meal at The Terrace bar in the evenings whilst listening to the live band. They have a selection of Thai, western & Japanese menus to choose from. 'The band was very good. At weekends you can also watch live premier league matches on the large screens provided in the Terrace Bar. The hotel has a travel desk which offers city, cave & fishing tours amongst others. Great place to stay!!

A Trip to Trang”

Spent 2 days in the area and as usual, stayed at the Thumrin Thana, easy access, nice facility, but now NO BREAKFAST. The hotel is very close to the downtown market, about 600 meters.

if you are going to be in trang, you should definitely stay on the beach. however, if you have to be in the city for the night, this is a great option. the rooms were comfortable and there are many amenities in the hotel - such as a fitness center and pool. very helpful staff.

Excellent hotel and location”

I really enjoyed my stay here at the Thumrin. The rooms were very spacious and very clean. The bathroom especially was amazing! Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times and the breakfast was great with a wide selection of choice. Only criticism is that internet was not complimentary in the rooms, I feel for a 4* hotel this should be standard.

Basic Downtown Hotel”

There is nothing special about the Thumrin, which is an older hotel. It is clean and satisfactory on the average. The best parking is off the hotel but around the front entrance in the public parking area, no charge. The breakfast buffet was more the adequate with quite a bit of variety. The only issue was the lack of hot water for showering. The water never was better than cool. We even called hotel services and requested a technician to assess why we were not getting any hot water. He came but indicated that "it was not like your home, this is what it is." So you have to live with a cool shower, which means in and out very fast!! The a/c took a while to cool down the room but was more than adequate while sleeping.

everything is excellent at this hotel, except free Wifi is only available at Lobby.. in room, u have to pay for wifi.. i hope hotel management sees this problem.. hotel guests pay high amount of money for a room in Trang, and they should provide free wifi at every floor..

Thumrin Thana Trang”

I think for a person wanting good acommadation in Trang it would be hard to go past this Hotel .It has outdoor swimming pool ,spa,sauna,etc,Close to railway station,and shops,Large department store called Siribarn with about 4 large floors of goods ,cost about 100baht to go there in took took from the Hotel.If you travel on the plane there is a free transfer to the airport just ask at the desk they are very helpful.

nice hotel, but could use a bit of refurbishing”

we stayed at this hotel on four different nights as a base while island hopping in the Andaman. we were able to keep some of our bags here while we were at some of the islands. although the hotel could use some upgrading, we found the rooms large and comfortable. it's close to the train station, markets and a lot of local restaurants. we like the fact that Trang is a quiet laid back town
