Good access to attractions”

I really enjoyed my stay at Setsugetsuka. There are two restaurants to choose from and I asked a friendly staff to give advice on how to enjoy the spread of food (thank you very much!) Each room has its own outdoor bath, connected directly to the rooms but if you go in winter, you have to brave the shower in the cold before you sink in. It's a little run down for this bath, but if you head to the proper baths they are magnificent, with good water running at various temperatures! I even peeked at the secluded "private outdoor baths" but I turned back immediately as there were no proper 'after-shower' amenities there. Just a stool and a mirror. All staff are really friendly! I had no issues with my not-too-perfect Japanese conversations, and some staff speak English. Very close to Gora station, which makes my Hakone trip WELL WORTH IT. Thank you Setsugetsuka!

Very convenient location and great for people first time visiting Hakone”

This is one of the best Onsen in Hakone, very convenient and great for first time visitor or people travelling with kids. Their Onsen is really clean and beautiful. Their breakfast and dinner are amazing and I cannot find any negative. Room is clean, and the staff is really helpful i.e. we had luggage transfer service to Hakone Yamato station before we start our touring around Hakone. Highly recommended!

The best hotel experience I’ve had”

Amazing location- literally 1min walk from Gora Station. Beautiful hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. Authentic and really delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast included in the stay; you also get free komono rental to get a real Japanese experience;) The indoor and outdoors public bath has 6-8 different baths to enjoy. I recommend the outdoors one sitting on rocks and relax. They also have 3 private baths you can use that accommodate 2-3 ppl max. No booking necessary, just go in if the lantern light is not on. We also stayed at the rooms that have private onsen bath in our room. It’s an amazing feeling bathing and looking over the stars:) our bed was so comfortable and big (Queen size) too. We got there early in the morning and they let you store your luggages for free so we got to explore Hakone for the day without carrying anything, and came back checked in in the afternoon and relaxed in hot spring. Definitely worth the extra cost- you gotta stay here!

Private Onsen, Exquisite Food, Great Service”

Firstly, location was great - being situated right beside Gora station. U also get buses to anywhere conveniently. This place is also awesome for newly wedded couples, as they can share intimate moments with their private onsen. Food was extremely exquisite and delicious! They also provide snacks at the lobby. I would say I also love the products in the bathroom! Would definitely return to this ryokan the next time I'm at Hakone!

This facility is amazing. Please note that from Hakone station, you will have to take another tram for 5 stations to get to Gora. I think everything at this facility was great except that I wish it was closer to the Hakone station. However, once you arrive at the Gora station, the facility is only 1 minute walking distance from the station. In conclusion, this was definitely one of the highlights of my Japan trip!

Good Option in Hakone”

Good option in Hakone. Just off of the train station in Gora. Place is a bit dated but very clean. Can get somewhat crowded, but this is a rather big ryokan. Staff spoke English and were very helpful. Having a private open air bath was also a good choice for us onsen first-timers.

Nice Hotel! Nice hot spring! Nice staffs! ”

I stayed in this hotel for 1 night and I strongly recommend this hotel. First, the room is large with an in room bathtub at the balcony. I didn't us the bathtub as it was too cold outside. But, it is very special. Second, the hot spring is really amazing. I love the in door and out door 大眾浴場!The water is hot enough and very enjoyable. I also went to the private hot spring. There are three private out door area and I can saw many star on the sky at night. It is romantic. Third, I really want to say thank you to the staff who served me for dinner at the restaurant 風月. He tried his best to use English introduce the dinner set. A very nice guy. And the hotel also well noticed that I have an allergy to shrimps and carbs so they changed other dishes for me. There is one thing need to improve is the hot water in room comes out too slowly. I have to turn off and turn on the tap again for at least 3 times in order to let the hot water coming out. Hope your hotel keep up all those excellent service and I will come back again!!

Not bad, but can be better”

Room was big, clean and with amenities. Location was just beside Gora station which is generally convenient, though the typhoon had rendered the Hakone Touzan line at Gora station out of service, so that convenience is somewhat tempered. Food was decent. Service can be better as many could not speak English.

Good ryokan but beware in high season”

This ryokan has great amenities. All you need to bring here is basic things like underwear and your makeup bag since they provide everything else: a yukatta (light kimono) to wear and even a nice jacket for the cold to go over it, socks, wooden clogs and soft slippers, We chose the Japanese western style room with outdoor tub (we didn't use; it was too cold at 45F and rainy) with low platform beds. The room was extremely comfy especially for just me and my husband. The paper screens in our room were a bit torn and some hotel fixtures could use some up keeping but all superfluous. Food was abundant and delicious (we paid for the dinner and breakfast package) and nicely served SHARP at either 6:00pm or 8:00pm. Now, it would have been a perfect stay had it not been for the crowds. There were just too many people. Lots of smokers (asthmatics beware) everywhere with total disregard for the rest of us. I even had to clear cigarette butts out of the onsen bath area as it seemed someone had used its time to smoke there. Totally annoying considering you have to be so careful as to not bring shoes in, not let your towel touch the water as it is in Japanese custom. Also, there were just too many people for the amount of staff and private baths (only three) as they were mostly occupied during our stay. I also wanted a tranquil, serene experience and it was just impossible with the amount of children screaming and running around (very unusual in quiet Japan) but these were non Japanese people. By Monday they were gone. Finally, you should indulge in a massage at the Spa. It was totally worth it and very relaxing and effective.

Luxury and enjoyable stay.”

The hotel locates exactly outside Gora Station, it's very easy to access either by train or by driving. The hot springs are amazing, both inside the room and out the room. The food served was tremendous and there was a lot of surprise in the breakfast served. Some of the staffs can communicate fluently in English. Worth the price and recommended to others.

The best hotel i’ve ever stayed so far”

Pros : - just step ahead from Gora Station - they have so many onsens : indoor, outdoor, private outdoor, and inside the room (if u choose this type of room) - dinner has 2 options (depends on the menu and day i guess) - the room is huge (and turns out can accomodate up to 3 people for type of room i’ve stayed) - while dinner they serve ‘all u can drink session’ for 1 hour and you can choose any drinks from the menu :) - the hotel even give you small gifts (japanese snacks) when you check out - you can choose your own yukata at the lobby Cons : - the staffs (receptionist) that helped me checked in can not speak english. So I was using gestures and google translate :)

The location is very convenient, right across the Gora Station. The room was comfortable and staff were always patience and helpful in answering our queries. We made a request to the hotel to give my mum a surprise birthday celebration. We would like to thank the hotel for your arrangement and gift for mum. We would also like to express our appreciation to your staff, Mr Yuusuke Hirota, who served us our dinner on 4 April. He was attentive and always ensured that we had our food served. He even presented mum with a personal gift to celebrate her birthday. We thank him for his kind gesture and for making the birthday celebration a special one for mum.

Couple from the US - Our Anniversary Trip ”

We loved it here! Beautiful place, and we got a room with a private onsen on the patio. It was so lovely to soak in it together at night with the cool air around us. The room was pretty. Loved the kimonos and loose-fitting clothing provided to us to wear to meals, to the different onsens, and around the hotel. We wanted to try traditional and authentic Japanese food, and we definitely got it here! Both dinner and breakfast were included as part of out stay. Dinner was 5 courses and breakfast was three. The experience was very cool. A little burner in the middle of our table cooked all of our food, and servers came to switch things out and serve us every 20 minutes or so. No one spoke english however, and there were no english translations of the menu, so we are not sure what we ate. (Lots of gooey textures!) To be honest we didn't enjoy most of the food, but we were happy to have the experience and an authentic experience.

Excellent ryokan.... once your arrive you don't want to leave”

This find was a pleasure from arrival to check out. Receptionist took a lot of time to explain to us the inn's facilities (in english) and services. We were thrilled to discover it offered various onsen options, public main bath, carbonated bath and private huts. Many rooms also had private tubs in the balcony. On top of that, refreshment and food was provided as part of the service at various times of the day but you can be assured you will never go hungry or thirsty at this establishment. Breakfast and dinner was a traditional experience - highly enjoyable and great beef shabu which you could order extras from the add-on menu. My only critique would be more portions of beef please because it was so good! Beds were super comfy and location super convenient. We were totally relaxed after spending one night there and already looking forward to go back in our next Japan trip.
