Lovely hotel, Nice rooms, friendly staff ”

my wife and i caught a night bus from ekkami bus station in bangkok and arrived at top resort at around 8am after catching the first ferry from trat. we fully expected to drop our bags off and have to wait until lunchtime until we can check into our room. to our delight the friendly owner offered us a free room upgrade which was available to enable us to go straight to our room and have a sleep after a tiresome journey - a fantastic start to our stay at top resort and a very nice gesture that he didnt need to make. the room we were upgraded too was a lovely villa with kitchen, sofas and a nice living space + balcony. the furniture was a little dated but it was not a problem at all becuase most importantly the beds were very comfortable. the rooms are big and spacious and kept in very good condition and clean. all of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. the resort is well placed with nice sorroundings and gardens. it is a little walk to the busier area of white sands beach but this was to our liking as its not so busy/noisy around the hotel. it was nice to have a 10 minute walk to the busier area each night along the beach and then back to the room after a nice beach bbq and some drinks. i would go back to this resort and recommend it to anybody. i have stayed in many resorts in thailand and really enjoyed staying at top resort. 8-9/10 would be my scoring.

Great place for having a good time”

The resort is located at the and of white sand beach. Positive things to mention: - big well equipped rooms (even if you take a cheap one) - even directly located next to the street the rooms are not noisy (the windows have noise protection) - nice balcony for smoking - very cheap mini bar prices (same as if you buy them in supermarket) - big clean swimming pool - nice garden to relax - very kind and friendly manager and helpfull staff - next to the main street, so getting a taxi is no problem - aircon works reliable and silence, even if you leave the room Negative: - no own beach, so you have to walk - the showers water pressure is low, taking a shower is no fun Overall: Great place to stay for a few days for single travellers or for families. Price performance ratio is excellent. Only bis disadvantage is the missing beach and if you go to Ko Chang you always want to lay down on the beach.

Very nice hotel!”

We arrived on Koh Chang by ferry and hopped on the already waiting (shared) taxi which dropped us off right in front of the hotel for only person. The german/english speaking 'farang' staffmember welcomed us very friendly. Due to the heavy rain a few days earlier our room suffered from waterdamage so we received an upgraded room. The room was spacious and clean with very nice furniture and a great balcony. The minbar was full(not overpriced like in other hotels) and WiFi internet worked very well in the room. The pool and garden are kept very clean and look great, the pebble stone beach on the other hand is a bit of a let down. But with White Sands Beach only 5min down the road this was no issue at all. This hotel is one i would go back to in the future.

Great stay, very quick check in , the hotel is run by German management in previous reviews i noticed people mention language barriers but i found ALL staff to speak very good English. They helped arrange a jungle trek at the same price offered by the many tour companies on White sands beach and also arranged transport back to Bangkok. The room itself was very comfortable and well maintained, its not in the middle of the White Sands but more on the northern edge, but its only a 15 minute walk to all the action. The on site restaurant serves a good selection of food and drink and every meal i had there was enjoyable. All in all an excellent stay at a very reasonable price.

Fabulous hotel, clean rooms and away from noise”

The hotel doesn't look much from the outside, and the foyer is a bit tired, but the rooms have fabulous thai furniture, huge bed, nice and hard, tv dvd fully stocked fridge and mini bar. The bathroom had a decent shower and wet room floor, (only down side is it looks like it needs updating)The sheets were changed daily and towels provided. beach mat and beach towel also provided. It's about a 5 min walk into the centre of white sands beach, but this means it isn't too noisy. There is no beach as such, just pebbles down 134 steps, but if you want absolute peace, go down there with a book and you will not be disturbed. Reception staff veryu friendly and Paul in the restaurant also v helpful. Only down side that i can think of is that there are only 6 loungers around the pool, so you have to be quick to get one. all in all a v pleasant stay.

Pleasant stay in a good hotel. ”

Bernard the German owner and his staff were excellent. They accommodated every request I had. He said "If I can do it I will" Lovely garden setting and a nice small pool. A range of accommodation is available but the rooms facing the gardens are very nice. Rooms are large and have many extras as standard. Agoda bookings will normally give you the mountain side rooms facing the main road. The hotel is located up the hill from the White Sands beach and is a good ten minute walk to the beach. The beaches on Ko Chang are OK but not great. Underdeveloped compared to Phuket which is a big bonus. As with Ko Samui the hotels and shops are on the beachfront and the road is behind these. So to get to the beach you have to walk down paths or through the hotels. But at the moment it's all low key and not a problem. Two negatives on the Top Resort. All rooms allow smoking. So if you are non smokers as we were you can smell the smoke even after airing the rooms. Plus the air conditioning motor is mounted on the wall of the balcony making the balcony a "no go" zone whilst the air conditioning is on - which frankly is most of the time you are in your room. Warning - do not go to Ko Chang on a Thai long weekend or similar - it will take you 4 hours to get across on the ferry such is the heavy traffic volume. Apart from those times you shouldn't have to wait more than one hour if you are travelling by car.

Top Quality Resort”

Wonderful relaxing resort with friendly staff. Walking distance to everything on White Sand Beach. After dining in some Restaurants in White Sand Beach i realised that the best restaurant in town is Pauls in Top Resort with excellent food both Thai and Farang and don´t forget the the stunning view. Highly recommended. I will be back next year.

Nice Little Hotel in a Lovely Setting”

The Top Resort Hotel has two options for your stay: you can stay in the hotel building itself, or you can stay in cottages which are situated amongst the lovely gardens behind the hotel building, and around the pool and pool bar. These gardens created a lovely environment to relax in. My room in the hotel building had a balcony facing this garden area, providing a nice setting for relaxed evening conversations over a beer. The rooms were clean and comfortable, as was the bed. Every day the new towels would sitting upon my bed, folded into some artistic shape like a goose or a flower and pedals. The bathroom was basic but was clean and functional. My only problem was that there were tiny little ants walking around on the floor in the bathroom, and occasionally in the room itself. I see this often in cottage type accomodations in tropical countries so it was nothing to be concerned about, but it`s one of little negative things that you notice. Communicating with the front desk staff was a bit odd at times. They seemed disinterested. My friend and I inquired about a snorkelling tour and were told that they were not running, because it was the wet season. The staff took no initiative to inform us that multiple other companies were running an identical tour - nearly causing us to miss the opportunity for a snorkelling tour. The location was great, on the main street in the White Sand Beach area, within walking distance of some restaurants, convenience stores, and ATMs, and within easy motorbike distance of the entire area. The main bar complex is an easy 2-3 minute walk. The hotel restaurant was great. The breakfasts were not included, but for the price of around 150 baht, I was treated to huge meals that kept me full past lunch time. The Wifi was not reliable even in the lobby. Though I could often get a connection, my friend could not. Overall I enjoyed this hotel and its beautiful surroundings. It was a great place to relax.

Central location with good rooms”

The hotel was good value, especially considering low season prices (we paid about baht per night for 3 people but there are also plenty of cheaper options although the standards may not be as high). Front-desk person was helpful when we asked him questions (although he may not seem that friendly as he does not smile that much). The room came equipped with all of the necessities but we couldn't get the safety deposit box to work (it was also low on battery). It was nice to have a pool at the resort and there was also a bar and restaurant on-site. I believe you could also get a massage if you wanted. There was lots of bars, restaurants and shops nearby which was an added plus. White Sands Beach is ok but I prefer Klong Koi (near Bang Bao pier) which was more secluded and had a nicer beach (though it is farther away from everything).

Great Hotel and Pool and excellent restaurant!”

top resort was a great choice for a hotel on koh chang. the room was beautiful and clean, the mini bar in our was stocked and very reasonably priced (pretty comparable to the convenience store). the balcony was a good size and had a table with chairs and an umbreall. the room was cleaned and bedding cheanged daily. the restauratn (paul's) was delicious! i reccomend the omelette and fresh fruit plate, and all of their breads were delicious as well! the pool was also very nice and clean. i did agree with other reviewers that the wifi signal is very weak, but i didn't spend enough timei n my room to be overly bothered.

Good location, nice service,clean”

This is the first time we stay in Top resort in Koh Chang. The hotel is nice and clean and reasonable price. Service is good. when we first arrive, the German Manager escort us to the room and explained everything so very nice. Opposite to the hotel is Iris club ...near by is Seven-Eleven.. many good restaurant around the hotel and also reasonable price

Good Location, Clean & Big Room, Friendly Staffs”

Hotel is on the hill and the restaurant is recommended to see the sea view and it is ok for breakfast.But please be aware for Bees and Ants.It is just for 6-7 mns walking from hotel to the center of White Sand Beach where you enjoy for local food, local shop, bars, restaurant, convenience shops.Recommend to see the fire show at 08.30pm & 10pm everyday at Sabay Bar or MC BBQ.It is about 30-40 mns from Pier to Hotel or Hotel to Pier by local car and the cost is THB50/person.But local car to pier has every 1 hour with a small yellow sign in front of car.Please carefully take a look. Or you will be charged for THB500-600/one way for taxi car to pier if you miss the local car.

Top resort is perfect if you're looking for a quiet relaxed environment. There's a restaurant on site that has a German/ Thai menu. Swimming pool is amazing. The beach is within walking distance. Everything you need from food to bike rental and many more restaurants are within a stone's throw away. The hosts and staff are very friendly. There's a night market along the street at night. Bars and pubs are plentiful. This is a perfect place for couples and families just looking for an amazing get away. Streets are not at all crowded. I'd make this my base stay and explore the many other amazing places and lookouts from here. Not loud or noisy at all. Ps: there are atm's and money exchange facilities all over the place. Top resort is on the main road and easy to get to and from the ferry. Many people speaks English on the island and are super helpful. I recommend Top resort 100%. Enjoy

Fantastic service minded staff, great garden”

The hotel has a great view over the White Sand Beach, especially if you book one of the rooms with sea view you will be stunned by the beauty. The staff is extremely helpful, and we ended up booking an additional 7 days here. I will come back for sure! Only small drawback is the 10 mins walk to the sand beach, which makes lazy types like me use the pool instead :) which btw was fantastic, with infinity view over the bay.

An peaceful oasis”

When the taxi pulled up in front we didn't expect much from this hotel. A big surprise once we got past the lobby to ours rooms and the rest of the resort! Very clean, great staff, and the resort is super: great pool to relax by, a pool bar, and of course the excellent restaurant with it's incredible view of the ocean and fine cuisine (prices not too shabby). Our experience here was within the top 3 of our twenty or so hotels we visited during our 6 weeks in Thailand. Very good place to relax. For those that want to party, the Whitesands Beach party strip is a 5 minute walk away. We will definately come here again.

Great stay in Top Resort”

We stayed at Top Resort with my girlfriend, and it was the best place we have stayed so far. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and looked nice. The pool is kept very clean, and it's nice place to swim. The garden is lovely and there are lots of beautiful butterflies everywhere. You can also walk to the public beach, it's not far away. There is also a restaurant with the hotel, and the food is great in there! Thaifood is not expensive and portions are tasty and huge! You can also eat outside and watch the beautiful sunset. I really would recommend this hotel for everyone, and we will definitely come back next summer.

Nice hotel and friendly service........”

I stayed 2 nights at Top Resort. It was low season and relatively quite. The hotel is nice and spacious pretty modern too. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is not on the beach but only a short distance away. I asked for motorbike rental and was quoted at 370 baht per day when the motorbike rental right next door was only charging 150 a day?? I did find ants in the room one day but it was not a big deal. Also no free water not even a bottle a day? Also a follow up on other reports when I was there the internet was not working. For the price you really can't go wrong I will in the future probably stay somewhere that is right on the beach.

European run, efficient! Clean, quiet... very nice”

I actually booked this because it was Western run (German in this case)! Having been to so many places with screaming kids, animals, litter etc. which just spoilt what could have been a lovely place. Top Resort is well run - the staff have radios and can be contacted by reception for any problems - BE AWARE .. reception does close at 10pm.. I thought it was made clear but I can see other reviews that suggest not. The gardens and swimming pool are lovely and a views from the restaurant balcony. There is even a staircase down to a little rocky cove.. idyllic! Yes, like other Agoda bookers, we had a room above the road but with the balcony being enclosed in glass the noise was virtually nil. Yes, 2000+ baht a night but definitly worth it. Paul's restaurant was very good also.

Great value for money and very clean and modern”

i think i chose the best hotel on koh chang to suit me its right next to the few bars on white sands. the hotel is very clean and modern. wifi will be a prob to pick up but they have a pc that is free to use in lobby. it is very cheap for what you get inc mini bar. few probs are that it is not on the beach and noise can travel through the hotel i could hear alot of people most ofthe time. very popular with the germans since the owner and staff are german but great service and friendly atmosphere.

Small scale but well constructed resort”

A German run resort with German design to the rooms. We were in a small apartment with a well appointed bathroom. Surprised that the door frame had a gap so finish was lacing, whereas every other aspect of the resort was superb. The resort is set on a slope at the "top" end of White Sand Beach and is terraced. The pool area is small and more than a handful of hotel guests at any one time makes it difficult for the pool to be enjoyed. The restaurant is run by a very funny and charismatic German eponymously named (Paul). He is very friendly and helps make you feel welcome. The breakfast is good and the menu for other meals is a mix of Thai and German dishes, most reasonably priced. Excellent quality.
